Riven

Yes I know another story. This is at least my own version of a challenge I put up awhile ago. I don't know what the final pairing with be for Harry yet we'll see where it goes.

Oh and thank my Beta for me. Greenwizard has been a great help already. ^^

Harry groaned as he searched for a compartment on the train. He was exhausted and just not sure if he would stay on his feet for long. He winced, remembering what had happened when he'd collapsed just as he was getting back to the Dursleys’. He he’d woken up sore and bruised. His uncle had been pissed about him fainting. He finally found an empty compartment to sit in as a wave of dizziness hit him. He stumbled a bit, and then fainted, hitting the floor of the compartment.

Harry groaned slowly, his eyes fluttering open. He could feel the train moving beneath him and he wondered how long he had been out for. Slowly he looked about and noticed a few others in the compartment with him. He blinked and reached around to find where his glasses were. Someone placed them on his face, and a pale aristocratic visage came into focus. Harry stared in shock at the smirking form of Draco Malfoy he and shifted nervously.

"Well Potter, I must say I find this situation highly amusing." Draco drawled as he watched Harry quickly stand and look at the other three Slytherins in the compartment. They all watched what was happening with neutral expressions. Harry growled, then took a long slow deep breath. This was not the time to go flying off the handle. He didn't even know why Draco hadn't taken advantage of him in some way while he was unconscious.

"Thank you Malfoy, but why are you being so civil?" Harry asked, keeping his eye on everyone. He couldn't trust any of them, or so he kept telling himself. Draco looked at Harry and smirked again. Harry had a feeling Draco knew something that he wasn't about to say straight out.

"Oh getting rid of you now seems sort of silly. You are already dying from what I've noticed," Draco stated as he leaned back in his seat. Harry stared at Draco as he said that then snarled getting ready to attack the other boy.

"What did you do to me?" Harry snarled. He realized now that Draco had probably poisoned him or something while he had been out. Draco just stared at Harry a moment then groaned. Draco realized that Harry had jumped to a stupid conclusion.

"Potter, I wouldn't poison you on the train. It would be too easy to trace back to me. Think for a minute. I may be Dark and quite willing to admit it, but even I don't want to end up in Azkaban like my father has because of you," Draco sighed and grabbed a book up from the seat next to him and pushed it towards Harry. "Look up Wizarding genetic disorders in that book. Then look specifically for Riven's." With that Draco spun and left, the other Slytherin's leaving as well.

Harry collapsed onto the train seat behind him and frowned as he looked at the book in his hands. He frowned, then slowly opened it. He scanned through it to find the mention of Riven's. He wondered about it more than anything. Nagging at the back of his mind was the idea that this might somehow explain his fainting spells. He shifted as he slowly read the chapter on the disorder of Riven's. Once he had read it the color drained completely from his face. He didn’t even notice Ron and Hermione enter the compartment.

"Hey mate are you alright?" Ron asked as Harry slowly shook his head and started to shudder. Hermione frowned and quickly sat next to him tilting her head.

"Harry, you know you can tell us anything," she said as Harry numbly handed the book over to her with it open to the chapter he had just read. Hermione pursed her lips in confusion, but began to rapidly read it. Harry gulped and shifted then looked at Ron.

"If that book is right, I'm going to die by my next birthday." Harry said and glanced at the book. Ron stiffened in shock and stared at Harry as Hermione blinked then looked at Harry.

"Harry, you've never had a fainting spell before now. There is no way you have Rivens disorder." Hermione stated. Ron glanced at the book, then Harry and laughed.

"Yeah Harry, you've never had any problems like those that are Rivens. It's extremely rare any ways. Why are you trying to imagine having a deadly disorder like that?" Ron asked shaking his head. Harry shut his eyes and stood, walking past them.

"Harry wait!" Hermione cried out. Harry turned and blinked looking at the two of them, his green eyes shining with anger.

"You read it Hermione, I know you did." Harry stated seriously. Hermione nodded and frowned a moment. She wondered why both Ron and Harry were saying he was going to die as it seemed Riven's wasn't really deadly, it just required a very specific treatment.

"Yes, I have, and it's not deadly. Ron's right though, you've never shown any of the listed signs." Hermione pointed out. Harry weakly smiled and looked up towards the roof of the compartment.

"How many people would willingly let me get close enough to a dark wizard Hermione. Also, just because you two have never seen the signs doesn't mean they aren't there. I've been having unexplained fainting spells for years. I've had more than ever this last summer; a summer after I attempted an unforgivable on someone." Harry pointed out, then stalked out of the compartment after grabbing the book back. Hermione stared after Harry as Ron shifted looking even more troubled.

"Hey 'Mione, I'll be right back. I need to go out for a moment." Ron said grabbing Pig's cage and hurrying out of the compartment. Hermione frowned, wondering what was going on before following her boyfriend quietly. She followed him to the far end of the train where she saw Ron write a note and tie it to Pig's leg, then glance about before looking at the little owl again.

"Take this to the Headmaster Pig. It's very important," Ron stated, then watched as the tiny owl flew out of the window. Hermione wondered why Ron was sending a message to the Headmaster, but shrugged and hurried back to the compartment without being seen. Something was going on beyond what she could see, and she had no idea what it was.

Harry began to hunt for Draco and his friends. He needed to return the book and speak with Draco. If anyone could figure a way out of his slow inevitable death it would be the Slytherin Ice Prince. Of course this meant he was turning his back on his friends, but the way Ron had acted when Harry had mentioned the situation, he had pushed him just a bit too far. The attitude Ron had showed made Harry believe he was hiding something; like that he and maybe Dumbledore had already known about his disorder. Harry paused in front of the train compartment he believed Draco was in and knocked on the door before sliding it open to glance inside. Seeing the Slytherins that had been in his compartment when he had woken he held the book out to Draco.

"Thank you for the informative read. I have one question though. How does a single fainting spell that you witnessed tell you that I have this Riven's?" Harry asked. Draco looked up at Harry as the others waited quietly. Draco's eyes seemed to be searching for something either in Harry's eyes or his body posture. It was hard to tell what he was seeking though.

"It’s simple Potter, there is a detection spell for it that my family and a few others know. I used it on you while you were unconscious. It came out positive," Draco stated with a smirk as he took the book from Harry. Harry rubbed his face a moment taking a few deep breaths to stay in control of his temper.

"One more question then before I decide if I should just jump off of this train and let myself die. Is Dumbledore's family one of the ones that know this spell?" Harry asked. Draco narrowed his eyes at Harry's question. He was highly surprised at what it was before he glanced over at Blaise Zambini. The Italian boy just shrugged his shoulders and motioned back to Harry where Draco once more was looking.

"Yes, his family is one of the ones that know. Why do you want to know Potter?" Draco asked. Harry's face began to redden no where near as badly as Ron's did when he was pissed, but the color change was there. At the same time Harry's emerald eyes began to shine with the dangerous light of an Avada Kedavra spell. Draco blinked several times at this reaction, watching each move Harry made.

"Thank you Malfoy. I guess the Headmaster knows I'm suffering from this. I would bet all the galleon's in Gringott's that he does, and he has kept it from me; just as he has kept everything from me!" Harry snapped in reply, one of his hands tightening into a fist.

"What are you going to do with this information Potter?" Draco asked as Harry slowly looked into the other boy's gray eyes. Slowly a smirk actually appeared on Harry's lips before he turned to leave the compartment.

"Do exactly what I said I'd do. I'm going to jump off the train," Harry stated taking a step forward only to be stopped and he made a weak gagging noise as Draco grabbed the back of Harry's shirt and choking black haired boy.

"You are doing no such thing Potter. I don't care if it would make things easier for the Dark Lord. The hassle it would cause everyone on the train is far too annoying. If I have to I will sit on you in this compartment to prevent it. Plus, I didn't wake you up just to watch you die." Draco snapped at the black haired boy.

"You woke me? Why would you help me like that Malfoy?" Harry yelled in rage. He realized immediately what Draco had done once he had figured out what was going on with Harry.

"Hogwarts would be boring without you there Potter. Besides, I figured it would be amusing to see how you would react to the coot using you," Draco pointed out. Harry's face paled and he almost collapsed onto the floor of the compartment again.

"He was wasn't he… He left me.. with them..." Harry seemed to fall deep into his mind, a few words slipping out here and there as the manipulations became far more clear.

"A sacrificial lamb is what the coot wanted; though now that this is revealed what is it that you will be Potter?" Draco asked, snapping Harry back to the here and now. Harry's eyes became a bit dull but were back to their normal emerald green otherwise.

"I will figure out my position in all this, don't worry Malfoy. Just know as of now unless you do something to piss me off I am just going to ignore you. I need to find the truths that have been kept from me before I choose my place in this war. No stupid prophecy is going to control me," Harry stated as he stood then walked out of the compartment to think. Draco and the other Slytherin's watched, then looked at each other silently. This was going to be a very interesting school year.
