A Gilded Cage

Authors Note: So this is my first chapter of my first story. I have no one to check this story over for grammar, spelling etc. So forgive anything like that. This starts out kind of slow, but later chapters will be.. Decent I hope. As for ratings well… I’m not sure. It no doubt will have some violence, drinking, language you know the normal fun stuff. As for Lemony-goodness.. Not sure. That’s scary territory right there. Anywho- ON TO THE STORY!

Draco glared at the west wall of his childhood home, as if it had somehow offended him. The sun was slowly melting behind him casting shadows on the ground. The air was suited to a summer evening, not too hot and certainly not cold. Draco had been home for exactly one day and he already wished it would all go away.
Lucius was in his study, no doubt avoiding his wife whom had already retired to their room. Draco himself felt no need to enter the cage that his parents called home. Inside those walls everything was different, gone was the family unity replaced with resentment and hate. His mother had never wanted to marry Lucius, but they had been given to each other before they were even born. That was the way arranged marriages went. It was true they seemed to hold at least a sense of friendship, or at least Draco supposed so, in the beginning. But as time went on Narcissa resented her parents and a slow hate formed for Lucius. They continued to share a bed, but never touched each other unless in public.
Draco frowned as he continued to glare at the golden trimmed windows, and the few golden symbols and Icons. He hated it all. He had everything he could want, or so his parents assumed. But there was one thing Draco Malfoy wanted more than anything. To be free of this cage. And to be free of this arranged marriage and to be free to pick the partner that he wanted. Though his choice would rather kill him then even look at him. But he couldn’t help but think that he, yes Draco thought he, could be the key that freed him from this cursed cage. If only he was brave enough to face him, to atone for his mistakes. But he would never be in the same room as the other again, let alone to able to get the boy to talk to him.
He sighed and stood stretching his arms high above his head, ignoring the pops that came from sitting for too long. He stood still for a long time before he brushed the grass off his robes, simply thinking about everything that had happened in the past year. His final year of Hogwarts was done, and the war was over. His family had managed to survive it once again, and Lucius had kept them all out of trouble. True he was not in Azkaban, but he still wasn’t happy.
The sun offered one more small burst of light before it sunk completely dragging it’s last struggling rays below the horizon. In that instant he was shrouded in darkness, something he was all too familiar with. Another few moments passed before Draco managed to drag himself to the door. The manor was silent and a chill settled into his bones as the door automatically closed behind him as if sealing his fate behind it’s doors. A house elf instantly greeted him with a pop and a bow,
“Can Tippy be getting Master Draco anything?” she squeaked as she wrung her hands together nervously. Draco simply ignored her heading for the staircase and his room.
He passed beautifully decorated walls, ancient tapestries that told a rich history of Draco’s family. Everything drew your eyes away from the grainy grey of the stone beneath. To Draco nothing could be done to mask the feeling of being trapped, the feeling of being in a prison. The doors to his room swung open to admit him, and Draco’s anger flew to the surface as they closed. These were things that annoyed him. He couldn’t do things on his own. His father, mother, house elfs and even the manor did everything for him. He wanted to scream, but he just bottled it all up inside. He buried his feelings as he sat on his bed, grey eyes turning to the window. He would play his role, work at the ministry like his father wanted. Marry the woman his mother had chosen for him and fake happiness. It will never be what he wanted, but he wanted he could never have.
The other was perfect, too good for the son of a death eater. His fist clenched at the thought flittered through his mind. Yes, Harry Potter was too good for someone as tainted as Draco was. The realization was like a knife in his heart. His blood seemed to cool and freeze creating a layer of ice that blocked the pain from reaching him. He forced any thoughts pertaining to Potter away, forced himself to think of his soon-to-be wife. Just the thought of that woman made him feel ill. So he chose not to think at all. He decided to simply sleep. But even in his dreams, he couldn’t escape from those haunting green eyes and the smile that Potter only showed his friends when he thought no one else was looking.

Yay! End of Chapter One! I know it’s short, but I am just getting started. So… please review! Whether you liked it or didn’t. What you would change you know that fun stuff. Depending on Class and what not ( as well as reviews) I’ll post the next chapter when I get it done. Oh and things will do a bit of a time jump in the next chapter.
One last thing. Flamers I have something to say: Don’t like what I’m writing? That’s fine and dandy but don’t try to tell me how I should write. Cause I don’t Care ^_^. Kay? Your flames will be used to keep me warm and to melt my marshmallows for smores. MMMM smores. ^_^
