Chapter1: It Happened in the Potions Classroom.
‘Longbottom! You miserable excuse for a wizard, are you incapable of following simple instructions?’
Hermione thumped her hands on the bench in front of her and stood before the dreaded Potions Master.
‘Maybe, if you were any sort of a teacher, he would learn instead of being terrified all the time!’
With a raised eyebrow and a sneer, he looked at the girl, Hermione Granger; Gryffindor, Head Girl, know-it-all.
‘How dare you speak to me that way Miss Granger? 20 points from Gryffindor.’
Hermione knew she should stop before thing got worse, but after nearly seven years it had all become to much for her. She returned his glare and replied;
‘You hateful, cold hearted bastard!’
Snape finally lost what little control of his emotions he had left and yelled in reply;
‘Bloody Gryffindor know-it-all!’
‘Arrogant Slytherin arsehole!’
‘Bushy-haired, ice-maiden bookworm!’
‘Greasy haired git!’
‘Pompous little princess!’
‘Great black bat!’
The rest of the class looked on in horror as a light began swirling around the two verbal combatants.
‘Insufferable child!’
‘Emotional cripple!’
The bell rang signaling the end of the class. Without breaking eye contack with Hermione, Snape yelled at the rest of the class;
‘Get out, all of you.’
No one needed to be told twice as the students hurried to the door, which swung closed and locked after the last one had left.
‘How dare you speak to me in that manner?’ he hissed.
‘I dare because you have no manners,’ she threw back at him.
They were unaware of the light around them that was growing brighter by the minute. They just stood there, the desk between them, as they continued to glare at each other.
‘Do you know who you are talking to?’
‘Yes, a pompous, self-centered arse.”
‘You have no idea the trouble you are in.’
‘You don’t scare me!’
‘You should be scared, very scared!’
‘I have faced Voldemort; you are a light-weight compared to him.’
‘You have never seen the worst side of me.’
Without realizing, they had moved. They were now standing at the end of the desk, within touching distance.
‘What, are you going to use Death Eater tactics on me?’
‘I’d need less skills than that to break you.’
‘You haven’t got the balls to do anything to me.’
‘Don’t be so sure.’
He reached out a hand and tangled it in her wild mane of hair and marveled at its softness.
‘Slytherin!’
‘Gryffindor!’
Suddenly the distance between them disappeared. As their lips were about to touch, she whispered;
‘Severus’
‘Hermione,’ he replied before touching his lips to hers.
Harry and Ron were waiting in the hall outside the Potions classroom, which had now gone quiet, when they felt the castle tremble below their feet.
‘What was that?’ Ron exclaimed.
‘It felt like an earthquake,’ Harry replied.
Back inside the Potions classroom: As if with a mind of their own, Hermione’s arms reached up to wrap around his neck, her fingers entwining in his hair. She was surprised to find it soft and silky and not greasy at all. Severus untangled his hands from her hair, wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her body closer to his.
Their kiss deepened, he ran his tongue along her lower lip and she opened her mouth to allow his entry. Their tongues dueled, each trying to taste as much as the other as possible. The bright light surrounding them now filled the whole room.
Outside, the Headmaster approached the two worried boys.
‘What is going on here?’ he asked, noticing the white light coming from beneath the classroom door.
‘It’s Hermione, Headmaster,’ Harry said, ‘She’s in there with Snape. They were arguing and now it’s gone quiet. He wouldn’t hurt her, would he?’
Dumbledore smiled, knowingly;
‘No Harry, he won’t hurt her. I think it might be best if you head back to your common room. There is nothing you can do here.’
The boys still looked troubled but knew Dumbledore would not let any harm befall Hermione. They reluctantly left the dungeons and headed back to the Gryffindor tower.
Dumbledore cast silencing and isolation charms on the Potions classroom and Severus’ quarters. There was no use alarming the rest of the castle when the next tremor hit. His eyes twinkled as he walked away and thought;
‘Finally they have broken down their barriers and found each other.’
Severus was the first to draw back from the kiss. Their eyes met, the passion within them was reflected there.
‘Severus, I’m sorry.’
‘Hush, my little lioness, don’t you see what surround us?’
Hermione looked around and saw the blinding white light that filled the room.
‘But what does it mean?’ she said, a look of confusion on her face.
‘It’s elementary magic, Hermione. What has passed between us is very strong magic, and extremely rare.’
He could see the confusion still remained. He took her hand and led her from the classroom, through a hidden door and into his private chambers. He sat in a deep leather chair in from of the fireplace, pulled her down onto his lap, and continued his explanation.
‘The only time I have seen anything similar was during a hand fasting ceremony and even then the light was not this bright,’ he said, waving his hand to indicate the light that still surrounded them.
‘From what I understand, the brighter the light, the more powerful the bond between the two people.’
Hermione looked at him with awe in her eyes.
‘What kind of bond, Severus?’ she wasn’t sure she wanted to know the answer.
‘Love, eternal love. Not just love of one for the other, but an all embracing love, a total joining of mind, body and spirit.’
‘Does this mean we are soul-mates?’
Severus smiled at her simplistic view.
‘That, and so much more, we are one. The light is more binding than any marriage, muggle or wizard. It is as if we have been married by all the forces of nature and magic combined.’
He gave her time to digest this piece of information and worried how she would react. She turned in his lap to look into his eyes. Eyes that were full of emotion, full of love. She reached up and placed her hands on either side of his face and gently pulled him closer until their lips met. The kiss was deep and thorough, and the room vibrated again.
This time she was the first to break the kiss. She looked deeply into his eyes and smiled.
‘Husband,’ she whispered.
He released the breath he didn’t know he was holding.
‘Wife,’ he replied as he bent to capture her lips again.
Without breaking the kiss, he stood and carried her into his bedroom and gently lowered her to his bed…………
