Summary: Severus remembers an injustice that happened.

Severus stepped up to the dais of the veil and a bittersweet smile touched his face as he leaned over and placed a lily on it. He could still remember that day as if it were just yesterday and not eleven years ago on this cold wet day in late March. It always reminded him that the earth and the mistress moon were crying for what had been lost as it always rained the whole day, the worst of the rain over where the Ministry of magic was to be found. Sighing he touched the archway as his mind took him back, to when the room had been packed beyond it’s capacity but no one cared, with on lookers and condemners for the crime of two men, the crime of loving.

He could hear the voice of the accuser as Fudge sat lofty upon his chair like a king in his throne before his subjects with a smug look upon his face.

(flashback begins)

The two men were lead down the twenty feet of the amphitheater, both looking worse for the wear but both carried a smile filled with peace and love when they saw each other again. Amber and Emerald shinned into each other and some how the dank room seemed to fill with a light as they stepped close to the other before kneeling on the bottom step of the dais. Ragged was the clothes they were wearing but neither seemed to care that the room was colder than it should be. The worn veil moved as if it was caught in a wild gale as if those behind were trying to return to this world to protest what was going on. Still the men did not care that their lives would shortly be stolen from them as they continued to look at just each other.

“Remus J. Lupin you are accused of willingly taking a mate despite the restrictions on Werewolves spreading the disease. Of willingly risking the lives of the greater population by furthering you line by having children with said mate and not reporting the children to be taken care of by the minister, how do you plead?” A wizard in a deep red robe bellowed for all to hear.

Remus looked to the man, a serene look was upon his face as his soft voice seemed to fill the room with any help, “Guilty that I took a mate but not guilty for caring for my children enough to keep them out of the hands of you butchers.”

The court room filled with murmurs as the words filled over the crowd and protests as well as applause erupted. Remus did not hear them, his eyes on the beautiful young man who smiled sweetly back at him, his Harry.

The red wizard cleared his throat as he glared at the werewolf and spoke again, “Then you admit to the crimes that you have a committed against all of humanity?”

“No I admit to loving the man before me and trying to take care of him as a husband would.” Remus said not looking anywhere but green eyes that sparkled for him, “I have committed no crimes against humanity that was Voldemort and if you remember right Harry killed him for all of you.”

Again the court room came to life as people gasped, flinched and some began to chant the two men’s name. Fudge bellowed for the room to quiet or they all would find themselves expelled, it took a few moments but the crowd became quiet again. The man’s face looked as red as his cloak, “You are a werewolf and that alone condemns you Mr. Lupin.”

Harry looked to the man, his green eyes turned dark from the rage of the words that were just spoken and he said in a clear voice, “My husband’s with the exception for the war never killed anyone nor has he ever turned anyone. With the invention of the wolfs bane potion he has lead as normal of a life as any man with the exception of being able to work. If there is anyone that has committed acts against humanity it is the ministry, for forcing people with a disease to be outcast instead of helping them. You kill their children, kill them or worse send them to the hell known as Azkaban and you say they are the dark creatures.”

More protest and calls of approval filled the room as Harry finished talking, his green eyes looking over the crowd as Fudge began to speak, “Mr. Potter may I remind you that the ministry nor society is on trail but Mr. Lupin and yourself are.”

Harry turned his calm look onto the Minister of Magic, “My name is Harry Lupin-Potter, please address me as such and by the end of this I think you will find out just how very wrong you are Fudge.”

Fudge’s face had turned a familiar shade of purple and Harry was reminded of Mr. Dursely as the older wizard got up from his throne to stand. He pointed one finger at Harry, “I may have been forced to over look your obvious disregard for the laws that have been in place long before you were born because of who you were during the war Mr. Potter but not anymore. The laws in place for werewolves are there to protect the people from being mauled to death or worse turned or perhaps you do not care about that.”

Harry tilted his head and gave a sort a sad smile, “Your laws are outdated and unfair for those that suffer this terrible disease. Werewolves should no longer be feared as they once were, or could be if the potion was more easily available to those that suffer it. They could lead normal lives and most probably wouldn’t even know that one suffered from that but you don’t care. You use the fear of them to keep the public you say you wish to protect blind and complacent, to keep them from really taking a look at what is really fucking wrong with the ministry.”

Voices raised again even as Harry continued on, ignoring all those that were around, “One day, these people will wake from the lies and hatred that you feel and see that what is happening is wrong,” Harry turned his bright green eyes upon the crowd and drew himself to his full height as well as he could, not that he was very tall, “At least you better or you might find yourself disappearing, horded off to hell just like those whose family members were death eaters, even though they were innocent.”

Fudge look murderous but held his tongue and then smiled, “Yes well I am sure there are a lot that would disagree with you on that point. If you are done with your little speech, which I will take to mean that you will again reject the notion of denouncing your bond.”

Lupin this time laughed softly as he spoke again, “I would think it is clear that neither of us will deny the other. We will pay the price of our love, what you call a crime and die knowing that we did nothing wrong. Tell me Fudge when all is done, will you be able to say the same?”

Fudge sat again and then said in a loud voice, “As both of you are without remorse for the crimes you committed, it is with regret that you must be sentenced to death, to be carried out now.”

All in the room went quiet as they looked down on the two men, gaunt, paler and dirty from the lack of being able to clean themselves. Both sported bruises and cuts on their body but there was something about them at the moment, as Remus drew the smaller Harry into his arms, that broke most hearts and a low murmur that this should not happen began to fill the room. Remus bent his head down and kissed Harry softly before they took each others hand, there was a mixture of acceptance and fear in their face as they were lead up to the black veil. Looking to each other in a whisper that carried despite how large the room was it was filled with the sounds of them saying at the same time, “I love you.”

And as their bodies hit the veil the room filled with a bright light that shinned a pure white, temporarily blinding all that stood inside and then through the building. All swore later as soon as they were able to stand up that as the light filled the room so did the most heartbreaking feeling of love filled them also. After that none who had been in the room would talk about what happen to any of those that would ask.

(End of flashback)

Severus smiled as tears fell softly down his face; he looked at the white veil and rose to his feet. The veil had been changed and somehow it no longer worked the way it did, it was rumored that the magic that had been released when the two stepped through broke the spell or changed it so that death could no longer be found here. Severus reached out and touched a figure that was now on the veil and then the other, images of Lupin and Harry the boy who lived to die because he was loved, “They finally repealed the law on werewolves, making it easier for them to work as long as they use the wolfs bane potion. Minister Weasely made sure of that and are now looking into the treatment of other creatures. As well as making repairs to families who were wrongly accused of being death eaters. And Harry, we added a course for muggle born wizards and witches as well as their families to learn what the customs and ways of our world.”

“Uncle Sev.” A soft voice spoke behind him and he turned to face the younger twin and smiled into his amber eyes.

“Yes James?”

“They didn’t suffer did they?”

He turned to look at both, one with brownish hair and amber eyes, James and the other twin with dark messy hair and green eyes, Siruis, before speaking, “No, they did not suffer and they are not alone either. Ones that love them are with them again but I know that they miss the two of you.”

“How can you know that uncle?” Sirius asked looking back to the veil with skepticism.

“Because your namesake once told your dad Harry, that the ones that really loves us never really leave us. Even now there is a presences that speaks of their concern and love for you.”

James grinned and then shook his head, “You are beginning to sound like grandpa Albus when you talk like that.”

Severus raised an eyebrow and then laughed, “I suppose there are worse people that I could sound like.”

Sirius sat on the step placing his lily down, “Tell us again, about our fathers and how we got our names, please.”

Severus sat next to him as James sat on his other side, “I suppose we have sometime for that tale. Now they meet in Harry’s third year…”

A.N: Please review, I could use some constructive criticism to help make it better. I am going to work on a second part that explains what Severus did after the execution.
