Chapter 1

Harry stood on Platform 9 3/4, looking around for Ron. After deciding to take matters into his own hands, Harry decided to go ahead and meet him on the train, in their usual compartment. He grabbed his trunk, then Hedwig, but when he moved toward the train, he walked headfirst into something.
That something turned out to be a petite blonde, who was, courtesy of himself, currently sprawled on the platform amidst the contents of her trunk.
\"Oh, I\'m so sorry!\" Harry said, settling his trunk and crouching down to help her.
\"Oh, that’s aht!\ht!\" The girl grinned up at him, revealing perfectly straight, and oddly enough bright green teeth.
\"Why are your teeth green?\" Harry questioned, curiosity overcoming his manners.
\"Oh, that, yes,” she began. “You see, in Diagon Alley, I was shopping for school supplies when I spotted the Weasley twins, Fred and George. I had heard great things about their gag sweets, and I just had to buy something. So I bought a new type of candy that makes your teeth change colors,\" she replied. At that exact moment, her teeth went from bright green to dark purple.
\"Cool!” Harry laughed, her infectious, multi-hued smile provoking a grin from him as well. “Did your mum care when you bought it?”
“My mum couldn’t care less. She thought it was funny.”
“How many did you buy?\" Harry asked.
\"I bought like a week\'s worth, so I could scare all my teachers,” she giggled. “Why? You want some?\"
“That’d be nice, thanks,” Harry said, offering a hand to her as she stood up, brushing herself down. After she had regained her trademark shifty balance she reached into her pocket and brought out a handful of silver wrapped candy. She held it out to him, smiling brightly, and her teeth were now the color of ripe pumpkins in an October field.
\"Thanks.\" Harry said, taking a couple for himself as she re-pocketed the rest. \"We better get on the train, though. Its about to leave.\"
The girl nodded, and with a wave of her wand everything flew neatly into her trunk, the lid closing promptly. After a moment her eyes widened, and she started frantically looking about for something.
\"Lose something?\" Harry asked.
\"My owl… oh, wait!\" She then reached behind her trunk, and pulled up a large cage. Nestled inside was a pure black owl, with eyes as green as emeralds blinking sleepily out at them.
\"Wow, it’s beautiful. What\'s its name?\" Harry asked, stroking its beak through the bars.
\"Her name is Midnight, but I think we really need to get on the train. Its about to leave without us!\" she laughingly exclaimed, picking up her trunk.
\"Right,\" Harry agreed, following the example, then bee lining for the steps onto the Hogwarts Express.
\"What\'s your name, by the way?\" Harry asked as they clambered up the train steps together, the door closing with a small draft of cool air.
\"Lialani. Yours?\"
\"Harry Potter.\"
\"Really?\" she asked incredulously, eyes flitting up towards Harry’s bangs, him playfully sweeping them to the side to show her his trademark scar.
\"Brilliant,\" she said, just as she started to head down the train hallway.
