Chap 8.8

Only a handful of professors knew about the girl. They kept a vigilant watch over her. Professor Dumbledore had not even informed Harry, her best friend that she was there.

Madame Pomfrey had healed numerous illnesses and injuries caused by curses and hexes before. But she had never seen the extent of physical injuries like those that Hermione had suffered. She had multiple facial abrasions, seven of her left rib bones and five of her right rib bones were broken, bruised shoulders, a bruised sternum with internal bleeding. She was able to heal the broken bones and stop the internal bleeding; but was it too little too late? All she could do now was to make her feel comfortable and hope that she would recover on her own.

Hermione fluttered in and out of consciousness for the next few days. She heard concerned voices. All she wanted to say to them was not to worry anymore and allow her to go.

She concentrated on the light above her cot. It flickered, making her dizzy. Her eyes rolled back into her head.

* * *

“Hey, wake up,” a familiar voice said. She felt a gentle nudge at her side.

She peeked out from under the covers. She wasn’t on the hospital cot. She looked up at the portrait of the two flamenco dancers dancing. The light of the sun streamed in past the curtains. She turned to see where the voice came from.

She nearly choked as she saw the short-cropped red headed young man smile. He came in towards her and kissed her cheek.

“Come on, Seville calls,” he said smiling down at her.

She sat straight up in bed letting the covers fall off her. He smiled as he saw her in her nightgown. She touched his face; squeezing his cheeks. He was real.

“Okay,” he said as he held her hands in his. A tear rolled down her cheek. His green eyes enlarged. “What’s the matter?”

She couldn’t speak. Was it all a dream? Was he real? Or was the night with Draco a dream? She thought she was losing her mind.

She allowed herself to believe it was real. She kissed Ron on the cheek. He kissed her back on the mouth and she realized that she missed kissing him like that.

They spent the day enjoying the Spanish city of Seville. He slipped his hand into hers as they took in the romantic atmosphere.

The day was wonderful. They spent it in each other’s arms and she felt safe. They headed to their hotel room after dinner. It was late and they were both tired.

Ron moved a strand of hair out of her eyes as they lay in bed. He looked adoringly at her. “I’ll always love you, you know that, right.”

She nodded. He leaned in again to kiss her. “I’ll always be right here,” he said as he touched her chest. She took in a quick breath.

“Yes, I know,” she said in a small voice, as if she anticipated something going wrong.

He sat up in bed. He still looked at her amazed at how beautiful she always was. He got out of bed and headed towards the balcony.

“Where are you going,” she said clutching the covers.

“Getting some fresh air,” he smiled back at her.

“Wait,” Hermione cried.

“You can’t come just yet, Hermione.”

“I don’t understand,” Hermione stifled a sob.

Ron looked down before looking back at her. “The world still needs you Hermione.”

“I want to be with you, Ron, please," she pleaded.

Ron shook his head. “I’ll always be with you, Hermione. But you can’t come with me just yet.”

"Ron," she tried to scream but it was as if someone had cast a silencing spell. Ron pulled the curtains apart and a blinding white light entered. Hermione blinked furiously. She just cried as she opened her eyes.
