Even Now

When there\'s someone else who cares

When there\'s someone home who\'s waiting just for me

Even now I think about you as I\'m climbing up the stairs

And I wonder what to do so she won\'t see

11 years previously.

Lucius sighed as he placed the evening edition of the Daily Prophet down onto the coffee table in front of him. The paper lay face up, the headline reading ‘First Child For War Heroes’, a headline that for some strange reason, was crippling Lucius beyond explanation. On the front page, stood Hermione and Ron Weasley, holding a new born baby daughter, Rose Ignatius. At that precise moment anger flared in Lucius, causing him to seize the paper and tear it to smithereens. His Hermione, giving birth to a Weasley? He could barely stomach the idea.

~*~

It only felt like yesterday, that she was in his arms, writhing and calling out his name as he made love to her. Yet it all seemed like a dream to Lucius, who by now, chastised himself daily with thoughts of what he had let go. He loved her still, he couldn’t help that. There was always that part of him that belonged to her. He only hoped there was a small part of her that would always belong to him. Lucius pulled the yellow, crisp page of the Daily Prophet, that had lain in his draw for almost 11 long years. He ran his finger down the smiling image of Hermione, and his heart gave an uncomfortable lurch.

He stowed the paper away and locked and warded it with his wand. He silently left his study and climb the vast stairs of Malfoy Manor, pausing half way to look at the still portrait of his mother. He wondered if his father had ever loved his mother as much as he loved another? They had always seemed so happy together, before his father became involved with Voldemort. It was with a heavy heart he climbed the final steps and walked in to the rooms he shared with his wife Narcissa.

There was no doubting she was beautiful, but she had a heart of ice. Something before he had met Hermione, Lucius had indeed thought he too possessed. He had always loved his son, unconditionally, but Narcissa was a different story. He knew she had taken several lovers to bed, even going as far as to sleep with some of his friends. Nothing stays secret in the Pureblood elitist circles, that he now despised. There had only ever been one witch that held his heart, and she still did. Oh he knew Narcissa cared, just not for him, for his money.

That even now

When I know it wasn\'t right

And I found a better life than what we had

Even now I wakeup crying in the middle of the night

And I can\'t believe it still could hurt so bad

Hermione tucked her sleeping daughter into bed and smiled as she ran a hand through her messy sandy blonde curls. Rose or Rosie as she was affectionately called was the light of her life and the best thing she had ever accomplished. Rose was the product of true love, an unbreakable bond, between two people who love each other more than life. Through their daughter they would always have that bond. Even if one of them didn’t know it.

Hermione knew that one day she would have to tell Ron that Rose wasn’t his biological daughter, with her vibrant grey eyes, and blonde curls it was more than obvious who’s daughter she truly was. But Hermione wouldn’t change Rose for the world. She was fiercely intelligent, loyal and a blindly beautiful child. She was pure Malfoy. The only thing that was Hermione within Rose was her little button nose, and her wild temper.

Hermione closed the door and stepped into the hallway of her small but comfortable home, she searched for the light switch and pressed it, instantly bathing her in light. She smiled sadly as she remembered the day she gave birth to Rose, she was grieving for Lucius the moment Rose opened her eyes, she could instantly see Lucius staring back at her. Even down to her behaviour, Rose was a Malfoy, a sister to Draco and a daughter to Lucius.

Hermione made her way into her bedroom and immediately looked away from the sleeping form of her husband. She couldn’t have found a better father for Rose, in Ron. He was attentive and loyal and he loved Rose more than anything. But after all this time, her heart still belonged to Lucius, no matter what, it always would. They had shared too much to be able to forget, but Ron didn’t deserve to be married to a cheating wife, and Narcissa however unhappy she made Lucius, didn’t deserve it either.

She hesitantly slipped into bed, burrowing under the covers so that not one inch of her was accessible to Ron. She turned so her back was facing him, and closed her eyes, willing herself to sleep, but sleep never came…Only thoughts of Lucius. She wondered how after nearly 11 years, her heart could still ache so badly. How she still pined for him day after day…craving his touch. She felt her eyes fill and couldn’t help the tears that fell down her face as she looked at the picture of herself and Rose when she was an infant. The brilliant smile on her daughters face was an exact replica of her fathers. She would never allow herself to forget him, because one day, she knew, she would see him again.

Even now when I have come so far

I wonder where you are

I wonder why it\'s still so hard without you

Even now when I come shining through

I swear I think of you

And how I wish you knew

Even now

Lucius stood in the middle of a bustling Diagon Ally, his grandson at his side. He was taking Scorpius to get his school supplies for Hogwarts, knowing his grandson was going to make an excellent Slytherin. As he walked into Florish and Blotts, he noticed a curly sandy blonde haired witch standing ranting to a small startled raven haired boy, the little witches hands where firmly on her hips and her large grey eyes were positively dancing with magic.

“So you see James, it doesn’t matter what house you’re sorted into at all.” said the girl, lifting her chin and looking down her nose at the boy.

“Err, ok, Iggy.” said a stuttering James.

“And don’t call me Iggy!” shouted Rose.

“Rose Ignatius, where have you been?! You know this shop gets busy at this time of da….” Hermione stopped dead in her tracks as she saw Lucius standing in the doorway of the shop, his gaze fixed on Rose.

“Hey Scorp!” said Rose as she waved at Scorpius, who blushed and waved back.

“Hello Hermione.” said Lucius.

“Lucius,” she said weakly, “Its been a long time.”

He moved quickly as he approached her.

“Yes, it has. Too long almost.” he said.

Rose pulled on her mothers pocket and Hermione laughed softly.

“This is Rose, my daughter.” she said as Rose stepped out her hand in front of her.

“Nice to meet you, Miss…Weasley?” he said as he cast a sideward glance at Hermione, who paled considerably as he took the little girls hand and shook it lightly.

“You too, Mr Malfoy, your hairy is very pretty.” she said happily.

“As is yours,” he smiled, “Very unusual for you not to have red hair, being a Weasley.”

“My mummy says I’m a very special Weasley.”

“Does she now? Perhaps, you Scorpius, and James is it?” he asked an excited Rose who nodded, “Could go and get an ice cream at Fortescue’s while I have a private word with your mother?”

“Oh yes, Mr Malfoy, I would love that!” she said happily as she ceased James’ hand and proceeded to drag him across the book shop, “Come on Scorp!” she called merrily as she flew out the door.

Hermione’s eyes darted round the bookshop looking for the nearest exit, only to discover there was no other exit.

“Have you something to tell me, Hermione?” asked Lucius.

“Please don’t make me do this, Lucius.” she asked, her voice breaking slightly.

“Is she, or is she not, my daughter, Hermione?” he asked.

“Yes.” she whispered.

Lucius looked outward toward the door, where he could see Rose talking animatedly to Scorpius and James, her blonde curls shining in the August sunlight. He looked back to Hermione, whose eyes where filling with tears. She breathed in and wiped the errant tears away and looked him in the eye.

“We need to talk about this, Lucius, but not here. Not in public, after Rose goes to Hogwarts. Please, I need time.” she almost begged.

“I will give you that time, but no more.” he said as he swept past her.

Hermione’s heart stopped for a second as she breathed in his scent, it was masculine and strong, and just pure Lucius. It was in that second, her feelings for the former Death Eater returned full force. Seeing him after all these years where the catalyst to a ticking time bomb. She was done for.

Even now

When I never hear your name

And the world has changed so much since you been gone

Even now I still remember and the feelings still the same

And the pain inside of me goes on and on

Even now

Even now when I have come so far

I wonder where you are

I wonder why its still so hard without you

Even now when I come shining through

I swear I think of you

And God I wish you knew

Some how

Even now

Hermione fidgeted with the hem of her dress as she waited for Lucius, who was nearly ten minutes late. This made her extremely nervous, Lucius was never late. She sipped her cherry brandy as she waited for the man who had been her every waking thought for the last eleven years, the father of her child, and the man she so desperately still loved. She had gone home that day and told Ron everything, Ron on the other hand had surprised her with his reaction. He had always known Rose wasn’t his, he told her. But he had kept quiet because he loved her. She couldn’t have asked for a better friend in Ron, she had realised. He had asked her if she needed time to think, and she was grateful for the opportunity he had given her.

The door of the Leaky Cauldron rattled on it’s hinges as Lucius stepped in, his impressive stature making its way through the busy pub. He stopped by her table and dropped a small gold key on top before walking straight past her, not intentionally ignoring her. She picked the golden key up and walked quickly up the rickety stair case. She stopped as she approached room 12, her heart in her mouth. She was about to be alone with Lucius Malfoy for the first time in so very long. She pushed the key into the door and entered the room, closing the door and resting her head on the door. She tried desperately to calm her nerves as she turned but she couldn’t, the minute she saw him she wanted to run forward and throw herself into his arms.

Lucius on the other hand, felt positively drunk at the sight of her. He had gone home that day, and told Narcissa it was over. He had, had enough of her, and he was filing for divorce. A smile was all got as she turned the page of Witch Weekly and carried on reading. The divorce papers she got the next day, gouged more of a dent in her icy exterior. She had flown at Lucius clawing every bit of skin she could with her nails. He had politely removed her from his person and told her to pack. Quickly.

As of 3PM yesterday afternoon, she was no longer a Malfoy.

“What you’ve done was cowardly and unkind, Hermione, do you really hate me that much as to keep my daughter from me?” he asked.

“No! Gods, Lucius! I could never ever hate you. You were married Lucius and I engaged, what would the outcome of me telling you? You never would have left her.”

“I still had a right to know, my daughter has been raised a Weasley,” he said with an air of disgust. “When she is a Malfoy, without a doubt.”

“The fact still stands, that you had a wife and I a fiancée. I couldn’t let my love for you cloud my judgement.”

“You speak as if it was some trivial thing to be put away and forgotten about.” said Lucius, unable to disguise the hurt in his voice.

“How can you say that to me? I sacrificed my love for you, because you had a wife. You were married Lucius, don’t you understand? I could never ever break up a marriage.” she said as she shook her head, her curly hair cascading down her back.

“My marriage was over the day I met you.” he replied.

“You don’t know how hard it’s been, Lucius. To see Rose every day, she is so very much like you. Even down to her mannerism’s, she is pure Malfoy. But I look at her and I see you, and it make the decision I made worthwhile. I loved you through her.”

“I never stopped loving you, these years have been torture for me. There has not been a day I didn’t think of you. Not hearing your laughter or even your voice, pained me more than you know.”

She reached out and touched his face, “We didn’t ask to fall in love, Lucius. We just did.”

“I still love you, Hermione.” he said gently.

“Even now? After all these years?” she asked.

“Even now.” he said, as he came closer to her, his eyes meeting hers.

“I love you too Lucius.” she whispered a she felt his lips gentle glide over hers.

“Kiss me, witch.” he asked, and she complied.

She had never really forgotten what it was like to kiss him, it was like coming home. Or stepping into a familiar pair of shoes. He still had the ability to steal her breath away, and make her toes curl with one simple kiss. Her arms reached up and rested on his neck as he deepened the kiss, and she felt herself break. Here she was, back where she started, completely and utterly in love with Lucius Malfoy. She knew there and then, she could never bare to be parted from him again. She would divorce Ron, it wasn’t fair to him for her to love another. She did in a way love Ron, she loved him very much, but he wasn’t Lucius.

“Why are you crying?” he asked as he pulled away from her.

“I’ve missed you, so very, very much.” she admitted.

“Marry me, and be my one and only love.” he asked.

“What about Narcissa?” she asked.

“Gone. The divorce was made final yesterday. I am no longer married.”

“Ronald knows about Rose. He will give me my divorce if I ask for it.”

“So this is it? Forever? Me and you?” he asked.

“If you’ll have me, and our daughter?” she asked.

“There is nothing I could want more.” he replied as bent down to kiss her once more.

Hermione was roused from the kiss, by a small tapping at the window. She recognised it as a Hogwarts owl and instantly rushed to get to the owl, fearing the worst. She opened the window with her wand and the owl held her leg out and Hermione frantically pulled the parchment open and read quickly. Lucius frowned as Hermione laughed softly.

“Rose has been sorted into Slytherin.” she said with a smile.

“So it begins.” laughed Lucius as he gathered his witch in his arms, even now after all these years, he still couldn’t resist her smile.
