Things Happen

A/N: Thank you everyone for reading my story and thanks very much to those who have reviewed. Thank you Heidi191976 for your last comment because I nearly forgot about Alyson’s last name.

I need everyone’s help I haven’t decided if I should make the baby a boy or a girl. So everyone help me make this decision.

“Mummy” Alyson called out as she walked into Hermione’s office. “Daddy asked me to give you this note.” Alyson handed Hermione a note that was so crumpled it should probably be in the trash.

“Thank you very much Alyson, why don’t you color for a few minutes.” Hermione smoothed out the note and started to read it.

Dear Hermione,

With all that has happened in the last few days we missed our Valentines Day dinner last night and I would like to make it up to you. Will you please do me the honor of having dinner in my rooms at seven this evening? The Potters have agreed to watch Alyson.
If these arrangements suit you please send a letter by owl and I look forward to spending the evening with you.

Hermione smiled to her self and quickly wrote an acceptance letter to him. “Alyson sweetie come with me we need to run to the Owlery and then I have a surprise for your daddy.”

“Really, what surprise do you have for daddy?” Alyson asked getting excited. Alyson is someone who loves surprises not only getting them but giving them also.

“Well how would you like to have your daddy’s last name?”

“Oh I would love that mummy, but what about you? No one will have your last name any more”

Hermione laughed “Its ok sweetie I share my last name with your grandma and grandpa.”

“Oh ok then let’s go get my new last name.” She said and marched off towards their apartment.

“Aly where are you going?”

“I am going to get my new last name. Isn’t it at home?”

“Sorry sweetie” Hermione said holding back her laughter. “We need to go to the ministry to get you name changed.”

“Ahh Gotcha” she smiled and the two of them headed to the headmistresses office to use her Floo.

The two of them returned a couple hours later and headed straight to their apartment. Where Hermione started to get dressed and since she was so pregnant she only had one dress that fit her and didn’t make her look like she was hiding an elephant.

“Oooo Mummy you look pretty. Daddy is going to bite his tongue.”

Hermione glanced at her daughter. “Alyson where did you here that expression.”

Her daughters face brightened mischievously “Well I was kind of listening to the seventh year Gryffindor girls and that is what they said.”

“Alyson you know spying on other people is not very nice. So please don’t do it again.”

“Ok Mummy. Can I go over to Uncle Harry’s now?”

“Just a minute I want to go over with you.”

After Ginny and Harry also told her she looked nice she nervously made her way to the dungeons. She knocked on his door and waited for him to open the door and when he did she was stunned. Severus stood in his door wearing black slacks and a black button up t-shirt. “Wow you look nice” Hermione blurted out and he smiled.

‘Thank you, but I have to say you look gorgeous.” He stepped aside to let her in and she saw that there was a round table in the middle of the room with a blue table cloth and two candles on it. “These are for you” He said and handed her a bouquet of Carnations. “I heard you say once that carnations are your favorite flower.”

“They are” she said putting her face in them enjoying how nice they smell. I love them, thank you very much.”

He held out the chair for her and handed her a glass. “I read somewhere that you shouldn’t drink alcohol when you are pregnant so it is just sparkling cider.”

The fact that he was reading stuff about her pregnancy is the one thing that touched her the most and tears formed in her eyes.

“What’s wrong? Please tell me what I did wrong.”

“Severus you did nothing wrong, in fact you did everything perfectly. I love everything.”

“I am glad, I wanted you to like it all” He said sound insecure

They ate a fabulous meal and they were both sitting on the couch when Hermione pulled an envelope out of her purse and handed it to him. “This is from me and Alyson.”

He opened it and the first thing he saw was a drawing that said “To Daddy, Love Alyson” and it had a picture of him, Alyson, Hermione and a baby. He smiled and set it carefully on the table and unfolded the other official looking paper. He read it out loud.

“On this day the 15th of February 2005 the child Alyson Eileen Granger born March 14 2000 to Hermione Jane Granger and Severus Snape will be now known as Alyson Eileen Snape.” He stopped there because he couldn’t breathe for a minute and he turned to look at Hermione. “Is this true?”

Hermione nodded she was choked up by the tears she saw his Severus’s eyes. She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. He stared at the paper for a long time and Hermione leaned against his side and eventually fell asleep.

Severus looked down at the top of Hermione’s head and smiled. He tightened his arm around her and kissed her hair. He too fell asleep with their fingers intertwined and resting on her stomach while the baby gently kicked them.
