Chapter Eight - Too Good To Be
A/N: Just so everyone is clear...it really annoys me when someone reviews without taking the time to read my story. If you're asking me a question in your review that I answer in CHAPTER ONE then you obviously didn't read my story. Or, you need to take reading comprehension classes. Seriously. In Chapter One, Dumbledore, LUCIUS, and NARCISSA are ALL IN THE ROOM when Draco proposes to Harry...right? SO OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE HANDLING THE MATING QUITE WELL!!!
I don't mean to be so testy, really. But I swear, if one more person asks about the "bad poetry" at the end of each chapter, when at least THREE of my Author's Notes state that they are SONG LYRICS and the chapters are based on them...I doubt I'll post any more here. Seriously, guys...read the A/N's...and read the story. Everything gets explained. I promise. Sorry for my bitchiness...I just hate when people ask me shit I've already answered. Thanks for being so patient! ~ FallenAngel
A/N: Rawr. Um...well, here's to hoping this song works out easier...though it's not quite as planned as some of the previous chapters, I have a rough idea of how I want this to go. And the next chapter is gonna be WAY easier, so I just gotta push through. Cause starting with the next chapter, I totally know where this is going again, lol. Let's hope my plot bunnies decide to be inspired and run away with me again!
To Sweetteetwo: No, I wasn't snapping at you. Or really, anyone in particular. I was just annoyed that, in general, people don't seem to pay attention when they're reading. Hope this chapter helps make up for my temper!
To the rest of my readers, please, PLEASE go the extra three inches to review. I love reading them, I respond to all intelligent comments and questions in my author's notes. Oh...and...whoever is reviewer number...*thinks* Um, 135...get's a special prize!!! I do this often; creating challenges or offering prizes for a certain number review...it's my way of celebrating! ^_^ Hope you all enjoy! And remember, I alert to updates! But you have to leave your e-mail...signing in isn't enough...it doesn't let me see your e-mail on your profile. Sorry! ~FallenAngel

Harry sighed and stared out the window of the infirmary. "Just stop, okay?" He snapped at his friends. "Seriously, stop."
"You can't just do nothing!" Ron was bright red...but then, what else was new? "I mean, they attacked Hogsmeade! There were third and fourth years around! They could have DIED!"
Harry whipped his head around and glared at him. "Leave." He said it coldly and, while Ron was spluttering in indignation, Hermione seemed to realize her boyfriend had crossed a line and dragged him away.
Draco slunk around the screen as soon as they were gone. "You okay?" He asked softly, not wanting to upset his already over-set Mate any further.
Harry grabbed the pillow from behind his own head, buried his face in it, and screamed. Draco's eyes widened and he didn't know what he should do, so he just waited. After another muffled scream, Harry lowered the pillow. He stared at it for a minute, then whipped it across the Infirmary, watching as it hit the far wall, then fell to the floor. Still, Draco remained silent, though he did sit on the edge of the bed beside Harry.
"Why?" Harry's voice was soft and laced with pain, though whether it was from his injuries or emotional, the Veela wasn't sure. "Why does this have to happen to me?"
"It's not your fault." The blonde squeezed Harry's hand tightly. "It's NOT."
Harry's eyes were shining and as he turned and met Draco's eyes, tears began to fall. "I wonder..." He whispered brokenly. "What if I really could be the hero everyone wants me to be? What if I could take on Voldemort and the Death Eaters single-handedly, and no one else had to die, and I won and everything was wonderful?" His shoulders slumped and he bowed his head in defeat. "Would even that be enough?"
Draco could feel the anger rising inside him at what the Wizarding World asked of his beloved. It was too much for any one person to handle...especially someone as young and fragile as Harry! "You don't have to do it alone." Draco stated firmly. "And it WILL be enough when the Dark Lord is gone."
"I can't do it." Harry sobbed and hugged Draco closely too him. The slender blonde boy relaxed into Harry's embrace and whispered soothing nonsense to him, trying to calm him down as he added. "I know I can't keep going. Much more and I'll snap. I won't be there hero anymore...I'll be worse than Voldemort and I'll just stop caring...or I'll just stop being."
Draco froze and said quietly. "You die, I die. You have my heart...you ARE my heart. Don't let that go. Keep fighting." He leaned back and cupped Harry's face in his hands. "Fight for ME. For US. Not for them...for US."
Harry took a deep breath. It was shaky, but it was a breath, and that's what counted. He pressed his lips to Draco's as Madame Pomfrey came around the screen and cleared her throat. Harry ducked his head and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, Poppy." He and the Mediwitch were easily on a first name basis. "Well, let's get me patched up, 'kay?"
As Poppy began to heal his injuries from the battle, he turned to the Veela beside him and whispered, so softly Draco wasn't sure he heard him, "You're too good to be true."

"He scorched a man who used to throw him in the air as a child and sneak him sweets behind his mother's back! Scorched him almost beyond recognition; TO SAVE YOU!!!" Harry screamed, toe-to-toe and damned-near nose-to-nose with Ron. "Would you have done the same?!?"
Ron was even redder than he'd been earlier in the hospital wing."I never said HE wasn't doing enough!" Ron screamed back. "Of course he saved me...he's a Veela and your mate and he wouldn't want you upset if I died! THAT'S NOT THE POINT!"
Harry screamed, wordlessly, and spun around, throwing his hands up in the air. "Of course! Everyone does enough but me, right?" Harry wheeled around and glared at his best friend, his heart aching.
Ron's mouth was wide open, his eyes round as saucers and almost as large as a house-elf's. "No!" He was floored. "Merlin, Harry, I didn't mean it like that! I just meant..." He trailed off, unsure of what he'd meant. It hadn't been THAT, though.
Harry sighed and hung his head. "I'm sorry, Ron. I am. I know we've all made sacrifices. You've helped me every step of the way...you and Hermione both have; you know that. EVERYONE knows that." He peered up at Ron through his bangs. "But Draco's got my back now, too. It doesn't mean you don't...or that I don't have yours. Draco just has ours, too. You and Herm and the Order and everyone...he'd die to protect everyone I love...just like I will."
Ron nodded, his face red with embarrassment now instead of anger. "I'm sorry, too, Harry. I shouldn't have gotten so mad."
"You should have told us how you felt sooner." Draco said from behind Ron. "You know you blow up if you hold it in."
"Draco..." Harry admonished. He'd told the Veela he wanted to handle this by himself.
Hermione peeked around the doorway. "Sorry...my bad. I wanted to make sure you were both still alive." Her cheeks were tinged pink, but Harry could see the relief in her eyes.
Ron nodded. "We're okay." He smiled at Harry. "We always are, right?"
"Yeah." Harry smiled back. "You guys know I love you, right?"
They other two-thirds of the infamous Gryffindor trio nodded and all was well.

"You are AMAZING." Draco breathed it reverently as he lay in bed, naked, wrapped around an equally naked Harry Potter.
Harry chuckled. "Duh." He kissed the top of Draco's head, nuzzling the super-soft blonde hair affectionately. "I got that from the way you screamed my name for ten minutes straight."
Draco laughed and blushed, but slapped Harry's arm affectionately. "I didn't mean THAT!" He giggled softly, then sobered. "I meant the way you handled Weasley earlier." Harry went still beneath him and he sat up, face serious. "I mean it, Harry. You're amazing. I'm so lucky to have you. And I love you so much...and I can't believe you love me back."
"You?" Harry laughed quietly, but there was no mirth to it, as he sat up beside Draco. "I've never had anything good and pure and wonderful just for me...NEVER. And then, one day, you tell me I can. That I can have YOU, a powerful, beautiful, magical being...all to myself, for the rest of our lives. And on top of that, you tell me that you love me...that you will ALWAYS love me...and not just any love."
Harry's eyes locked with Draco's and he felt like he was drowning in green. "Harry..." He whispered.
"Let me finish." Harry insisted. "Not just any love...no, the love of a Veela. The most pure, the strongest, the most AMAZING and WONDERFUL and PERFECT kind of love." The brunette's voice was low and compelling, stressing the words he felt needed to be said. "And you gave it to ME."
The wonder was in his voice, on his face, and shone in his eyes as he looked at Draco as though he were the most precious thing in the world. And, in that moment, he felt he was. He leaned forward and kissed Harry passionately, his tongue sliding into his Mate's mouth, relishing the taste of HIS Harry. They sank back down onto the bed, with Harry beneath Draco.
"I love you." The Veela murmured as his wings flared out from his body.
Harry moaned as he slid his hands from hair to skin to feathers. As he stroked Draco's wings, the blonde purred and his wings began to vibrate under his fingertips, which made the brunette smile against his lover's mouth. He arched his back and gasped as he felt the air pulse and his entrance became slick and relaxed. "Merlin, Draco..." He moaned again as the head of Draco's cock pushed inside him. "Yesssss..."
Draco shivered as the rest of Harry's words dissolved into the sibilant tones of Parsletongue and he thrust the rest of the way into the hot, tight body of the boy he loved with all his heart and soul. He cupped Harry's face in his hands, using his wings to keep his weight off of the dark-haired boy, and locked eyes - silver to emerald - with his lover. As they both strained to be closer, Harry wrapping his legs around the slim waist of his Veela, Draco's cock brushed across Harry's prostate. A stream of unintelligible (to anyone not a snake) hisses left Harry's mouth. He reached his climax at the same moment Draco did, with their eyes still locked.
Draco collapsed on top of Harry, his wings draped lightly over them both, and Harry petted them soothingly. "I love you." He heard the Gryffindor whisper as he drifted off to sleep. "Even if you are too good to be true..."

I wonder,
What life would be like
If my shoulders
Could bare the weight of
All this adding up
I feel,
The breaking point
It's close enough,
It's feeling real again
You have my heart in your hands
You have my heart so don't,
Don't let it go
Check my pressure
Patch me right up,
You're too good to be
It's true,
We both make sacrifices
There's proof,
It came as no surprise
It boiled up,
As we always let it do
We made it through again
You have my heart in your hands
You have my heart so don't,
Don't let it go
Check my pressure
Patch me right up,
You're too good to be
Oh, you know,
You have my heart in your hands

Don't let it go
