A Night of Bliss and a Morning of Dread

The next couple of weeks passed like a blur to Harry. Most of it was spent either in class, doing homework or taking the extra Occlumency lessons with Professor Hawthorn. Harry’s Occlumency lessons were moving slowly, though he found it easier to concentrate now that Snape was not teaching him. Ron on the other hand was not doing as well. He still had not managed to perform non-verbal spells. Hermione’s nights were spent doing the mounds of homework she had been assigned, as she had no extra classes to attend yet, since their Animagi lessons had not yet begun.

Harry now stood in the room that for the next few hours is where he and Hermione would spend their one year anniversary. Harry had been so stumped that he had to turn to Ron and Ginny for help and advice.

----------------------------------------------Flashback---------------------------------------------
“So what are your plans so far for September 18?” Ron asked while they were in the Gryffindor common room. Harry looked around to make sure Hermione was not in the common. It was empty except for Ron, him and Seamus. Turning back to his charms essay he said, “Nothing,” in a casual voice.
“Nothing!” Ron said in disbelief. “Harry how could you have nothing planned? It’s Tuesday night, you have Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to get everything in order. On Saturday you put everything together.”
“I know, I know,” Harry said throwing down his quill and dropping his head into his hands. “I just don’t know what to do, don’t know where to go, don’t know what to get her, don’t know anything except that my time is running out.”
“Well if I was in your shoes, I’d use the Room of Requirement. As what to get her, hey mate she’s your girlfriend, not mine,” Ron said closing his charms book.
----------------------------------------------End Flashback--------------------------------------------

Harry had solved the gift problem; he knew she was going to love it, and the room. A knock at the door told Harry that Ginny and Ron were here to give him a hand. Harry walked over to the door, and opened it.
“Hey Harry,” Ginny and Ron said once the Harry opened the door.
“Hey, thanks for coming,” Harry said as Ron and Ginny entered the room. “I really appreciate you guys stopping by to give me a hand.”
“It’s no problem,” Ginny said. “So where do we start?”
Harry started telling them what to do and for the next two and half hours were spent working and preparing the room. At twenty to seven, Dobby appeared holding a silver platter. Harry walked over to Dobby and removed the lid to take a look at its contents.
“Thanks Dobby put it on the table over there,” Harry said indicating to the small round table not far from them. Harry had taken a little detour to the kitchens earlier that day to see what to do about that night’s supper.
----------------------------------------------Flashback---------------------------------------------
It was just before lunch when Harry snuck into the kitchens. After telling the many house-elves that had gathered around him that he was fine he went in search of Dobby, who was at the back of the kitchens with Winky, washing dishes.
“Dobby,” Harry said coming up behind the two.
“Harry Potter!” Dobby said surprised.
“Hi,” he said nodding his head slightly. “Dobby I have a favor to ask of you. Could you and a few other house-elves cook up something I have in mind?” Harry asked.
“Certainly, anything Harry Potter asks. What does Harry Potter have in mind?” Dobby asked.
Harry told Dobby and Winky what he had in mind.
“Good bring it to the room of requirement just before seven tonight,” Harry instructed and left the kitchens.
----------------------------------------------End Flashback--------------------------------------------
Harry put a charm on the meal to keep it warm and took a look around the room. It was ready, the room was perfect. Everything he needed was there, well except maybe Hermione. Harry turned towards the door and left to get Hermione. He walked quickly and quietly back to Gryffindor tower. He entered the common room to find it pretty empty for seven o’clock. He sat down on the couch and stared into the fire thinking to himself that Hermione is probably up in the girls’ dormitory with Ginny getting ready. After sitting there for about five minutes, Harry heard a door open from somewhere above him. He turned around and looked towards the stairs that led up to the dormitories. A minute later Hermione appeared on the stairs wearing a blood red, floor length dress. The sleeves rested just below her shoulders and along the left side if the dress, was a split that stopped just before her thigh. He hair was done up, similar to what it was like at the Yule ball, yet slightly different. The sight of her took his breath. There eyes met, and each were fixed in each others gaze of green or brown. Getting up off the couch, he made his way over to Hermione.
“Y-you l-look lovely,” Harry stuttered as his breath returned to him.
Hermione blushed and with as mile said, “Thank you Harry, you look pretty handsome in that suit yourself.”
Harry smiled and Hermione put her arms around his neck and kissed him.
“Ready to go?” Harry asked as the broke from the kiss.
Hermione nodded, took Harry’s hand and walked out the portrait hole. Five minutes later Harry had Hermione, with her eyes closed, in the Room of Requirement. Harry gave the room one last quick check and then approached Hermione.
“Okay Hermione, you can open your eyes,” Harry whispered in her ear.
Hermione slowly opened her eyes and gasped at what she saw. The room was filled with white and pink floating candles which casted a low, dim light over the room. They walked over to the small, round table that was covered with a floor length, white, silk tablecloth. The plates were porcelain, with an ornate gold decoration around the edges. The cutlery was a sterling silver with letters H+H engraved in them. The goblets were crystal with white and pink ribbon tied around them. Scattered on the table were a few red rose petals.
“You did this, all of this?” Hermione asked astonished.
Harry smiled, “Well Ginny and Ron helped.”
“But you came up with this?” she asked
Harry nodded, “yes.”
“It’s amazing,” she breathed.

Harry smiled and pulled out the French café style chair for Hermione to sit down in. She sat down and looked at the rose pick candle that was floating just inches off the table in front of her. She looked over at Harry and saw that instead of pink candle, he had a white one. Harry reached under the table and pulled out a bottle of champagne. Harry poured half a glass for Hermione and then one for himself.
“This is good,” Hermione said placing her goblet back onto the table.
“Yeah it is isn’t it? I asked around and found out this is what my parents had at there wedding,” Harry said.
Hermione smiled at him. Harry put his goblet down and removed the lid from the platter in the middle of the table. Harry served first, then himself.
Just as he picked up his forked Hermione said,” Mmmm, this is good.”
I thought you’d like it. It’s called ‘Chicken Tetrazzini’. I think of it as lasagna, but with spaghetti, and creamed chicken instead,” Harry said helping himself to some.

Half way through the meal Harry presented Hermione with a small box.
“What’s this?” she asked taking the box from his hand.
“I’m not going to tell you, open it and find out,” Harry said smiling.
Hermione laughed, opened and gasped at what she saw inside. Her head snapped up to meet Harrys’ gaze and looked back down at the content in the box. Inside the box was w silver ring with her birthstone, a blue sapphire, imbedded in the middle. She pulled it out of the box to look at it more closely. While turning it over in her hand she noticed that engraved inside was 1 Year Anniversary.
“Harry, it’s beautiful,” she breathed
“I’m glad you like it,” Harry said clearly pleased.
“I don’t like it Harry,” Hermione said. A look of confusion crossed his face. “I love it,” she said as tears of happiness formed in her eyes.
Harry pushed back his chair and stood up. He walked over to Hermione and kissed her.
Wiping the tears from her eyes he said, I’m glad you love it.”
Harry returned to his seat and took a sip of champagne as Hermione pulled out a box, about two inches high, out of her purse and handed it to Harry. Harry took the box and stared at it. He didn’t know why, but for some reason Harry wasn’t expecting a gift.
“Well it won’t open itself,” Hermione said sliding Harry’s gift onto her right hand ring finger.
Harry smiled and started to open it. Once it was open he pulled out an ebony black dragon.
“Wow this is…nice,” Harry whispered
“Open it,” Hermione said.
Harry shot her a curious look and looked down at the object in his hands. After examining it for a moment he noticed that it opened up. He opened it to reveal two pictures. He felt tears threaten his eyes as his gaze upon the picture of his parents. They were on a very familiar beach. It was the beach that surrounded Godric’s Lake. They were laughing and having loads of fun by the looks of it. The other picture was of him and Hermione. Like the previous picture, it was taken on the beach of Godric’s Lake on one of the may sunny days they spent at the lake.
“It’s beautiful,” Harry managed to whisper. “Where did you get this picture of my parents?”
“Mrs. Weasley. You know she told me that when that was taken she was about a month and a half pregnant with you,” she said.
Harry smiled, “Well thank you Hermione, I really do love it,” Harry said

The next few minuets were spent finishing their dinner. When they were finished, Harry pulled out his wand and with a flick everything disappeared, except for their goblets.
He took a sip of his champagne, stood up and approached Hermione.
“Care to dance?” he asked offering his hand.
Hermione smiled, took his hand and let him lead her onto the dance floor. The dance floor was made of grey marble which, like the table, was covered in red rose petals. For the next twenty minutes Harry and Hermione danced to the music of the piano, violin cello, and flute that Harry cleverly enchanted to play by themselves. Just as Hermione was really starting to relax and get into the dancing, the enchanted instruments stopped playing and the room was filled with a different song.

Oh - thinkin' about all our younger years
There was only you and me
We were young and wild and free

Now nothin' can take you away from me
We bin down that road before
But that's over now
You keep me comin' back for more

Baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven

Oh - once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you're feelin' down

Ya - nothin' could change what you mean to me
Oh there's lots that I could say
But just hold me now
Cause our love will light the way

N' baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven

I've bin waitin' for so long
For something to arrive
For love to come along

Now our dreams are comin' true
Through the good times and the bad
Ya - I'll be standin' there by you

N' baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven
Heaven
You’re all that I want,
You’re all that I need.

“That was a beautiful song,” Hermione said as the song ended.
“Not as beautiful as you are,” Harry said as a smile crept onto his face. “Do you want me to put the enchantment back on the instruments or have you had enough dancing?”
“Hmmm…I have a much better idea,” she said wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him towards her.
Harry responded eagerly, wrapping his arms around her waist. To both of them the kiss was like paradise and lasted forever. Somewhere in the school a clock chimed ten o’clock. They reluctantly broke apart from their passionate kiss.
“We should go,” Hermione said grabbing her purse off the table. Five minutes later they found themselves walking through the portrait hole into Gryffindor tower and went upstairs to the dormitories.
“Tonight was wonderful Harry, thank you so much. I really do love the ring it’s beautiful,” she whispered looking down at the ring on her right hand.
“I knew you’d love it,” Harry whispered in her ear. “Good night. I love you.”
“I love you too,” she said
They quickly kissed and she entered the girls’ dormitory.

Harry entered the boys’ dormitory a moment later. He removed his pants, pulled on a t-shirt and sat on the edge of his bed looking at the picture of his parents he just got from Hermione. Harry lay down and tried to go to sleep. It’s no use he thought a few minutes later. can’t sleep He got up and headed down to the common room. As he walked towards the couch in the dark, he ran into a chair that someone left out in the middle of the common room and banged his shin.
“OH SHIT!” Harry shouted grabbing his shin. He was still cursing under his breath as he reached the couch and sat down. A minute later a voice spoke out to him from the darkness behind him.
“Harry is that you?” Hermione asked
Harry turned around and saw the silhouette of Hermione standing on the stairs.
“Yeah it’s me,” He said still rubbing his shin.
“What are you doing down here?” she asked walking towards the couch.
“Running into chairs,” Harry said.
Hermione laughed quietly. “Really Harry, what are you doing down here?” she asked again sitting down beside him.
Harry leaned back into the couch bringing Hermione with him.
“I couldn’t sleep,” he said staring into the fireplace at the nearly dead coals.
“Oh I see,” she said moving herself into a more comfortable position.
Harry put his arm around her shoulder as she put her arms around him, and they both fell asleep in each others arm with no problem at all.

In the morning all of the other Gryffindor students moved about quietly as to not disturb them. When Ron came down, he smiled and excited through the portrait hole and went down to the Great hall. About ten minutes later, Harry woke up and looked down at Hermione, who was still sleeping. She looks so beautiful He thought to himself. Just then Hermione stirred and woke up.
“Happy Birthday Hermione,” Harry said
“Mmmm…thanks,” she said going in for a kiss, but before she could barely move, Ron came running into the common room with the Daily Prophet in his hand.
“Harry! Hermione! You have to see this!,” he said throwing the paper at them.
Harry grabbed the paper and looked at the front page.
" Second Mass breakout From Azkaban"
There on the front page were the pictures of six very familiar Death Eaters. The one that stood out the most to Harry was Lucius Malfoy.
