Little Miss Snape

Snape wrapped his arms around May\'s little body. He never ever
thought that he could feel so much love for anyone. His entire life
he had strived to be cold and indifferent. He never wanted to care
about anyone because he thought on one would ever care about him.
Now, this sweet little girl wanted HIM to be her papa. He was
overwhelmed with emotions. \"Yes, Mashka,\" he cuddled her. \"Maybe you
should take heme Sme Severus. Or, you could tuck her in here and we
could talk?\" Hermione offered. \"That might be a good idea. Hermione,
she trusts you,\" he told her as he stood up, cradling little May in
his arms. \"I think I\'m going to need your help with her. That is, if
you are willing?\" he asked Hermione awkwardly. Hermione nodded and
led him into her bedroom, straightening the blankets so he can tuck
May in. \"I\'m very willing Severus,\" she says softly. \"Thank-you. I
really didn\'t know how I was going to take care of May and keep up
with my students also.\" He looked tired as he tucked May into the bed
and kissed her on the cheek.

Hermione led him back out into the sitting room and sat
down on the couch. \"I…I wanted to talk to you about that,\" she said
quietly. \"I love her very much…and I\'m a firm believer that every
child should have a mommy and a daddy.\" His eyes widened. \"Well, of
course. We can both act as her parents. But, that doesn\'t mean we
have to…\" He didn\'t know how to finish the sentence. He had grown to
appreciate Hermione these last couple of weeks, but he wasn\'t
prepared to date her or anything. After all, she had been a student
of his at one time. What would the school think? Hermione
blushed. \"I\'m sorry, I shouldn\'t have said anything. I\'m not…
like….have those kinds of feelings towards you. I was just thinking
about Mashka and wanting things as normal as possible for her,\" she
gushed out, feeling embarrassed. \"I understand,\" he said, \"you know;
lots of kids have parents who don\'t live in the same house though.
And we still live in the same castle. I think she\'ll understand.\"

Hermione nodded. \"I\'m sorry, I shouldn\'t have said anything. I…I
never thought of becoming a mother type person so quickly, but I was
so flattered when May asked to call me Mama. I…I just love her a lot
and want her to have a really good life. \"I know,\" he replied, \"who
ever would have thought I would end up raising a child?\" He loved May
so much now, but the thought of being a parent for the rest of his
life was scary. He had no idea how to be a father. Everything was
working out so far, but could he really be a good parent to her, he
wondered to himself. Hermione blushed, \"I sure didn\'t.\" she giggled
softly. A slight smile crossed his face. lif life sure was pretty
crazy lately. `Maybe I should stop worrying so much,\' he
thought. \"You seem to be doing a great job. Really, I have been very
surprised,\" Hermione said. \"I am sorry if I embarrassed you, it was a
stupid idea.\" \"Don\'t worry about it. I\'m just a little overwhelmed
right now.\" Snape confided. \"I want to help, Severus, whenever I can.
That\'s all I meant by it.\" \"Can you tell me how I\'m supposed to act
like a good person?\" he said, with a hint of sarcasm and a sigh. \"I
don\'t care if my students think I\'m mean, but I want to be good to
Mashka. I just have such a hard time being gentle and nice.\" Severus
couldn\'t believe that he was telling Hermione Granger about his
feelings, but she was the only person he could discuss this with.

Hermione sighed, \"That was what made me think we should form an…
alliance of sorts. I could be there to smooth over the rough edges,
which with time, will get better.\" \"I hope so She deserves a happy
childhood after everything she has been through. I just hope I can
give her that…we can give her that, I mean. Thank-you for everything
Hermione. I know you have never been very fond of me. I\'m glad that
you care so much for Mashka.\" Hermione giggled. \"Well, you were
rather nasty. But, I\'ve seen things from you since she came that I
never thought existed in your system. If you ever change your mind
about….an alliance….just for Mashka\'s sake, I\'ll still be willing.\"
Hermione cast a look towards her bedroom door, wishing she could keep
the little girl herself. May woke up, not wanting to sleep anymore
and quietly opened the door, which creaked. She cringed, expecting to
be yelled at. \"I\'ll keep that in mind.\" He smiled at Hermione and
stood up. \"It\'s getting late, and I have some work to do. I\'d better
take May home now and put her to bed. Thank-you again for everything
you\'ve done for her…and myself,\" he added. Hermione smiled, and then
looked over at the door as it opened. \"Nyet sleep,\"(nyet=no) May
said, going over to Snape and hugging his leg. He picked up the
little girl and set her on his hip. \"Come on Mashka, it\'s time to go
home and tuck you into your own bed.\"

Later that night, Mashka snuck into Snape\'s room and pushed on his
shoulder. He awoke with a start and saw May standing next to his
bed. \"What are you doing of bof bed Mashka?\" he asked her, a little
annoyed. \"There black doggies under my bed, they try eat me,\" she
said, crawling onto his bed. Snape sat up in bed and reached for his
robes. He pulled them on and took May\'s hand in his. \"Show me where,
Mashka.\" \"Nyet go back!\" she starts talking fast in Russian.
