Things Happen

A/N: Don’t be too mad at me for last chapter. Things get better in this chapter and I could never let Hermione blame Severus for long cause I think we all know accidents happen.

“Professor Granger” Madame Pomfrey called quietly shock evident in her voice after witnessing Hermione’s outburst. “I have healed Alyson’s wounds; she has a concussion though and is still unconscious. If Professor Snape hadn’t gotten her here as quickly as he did she may not have made it. You may sit with her now.”

“Thank you Madame Pomfrey” Hermione replied and stepped behind the curtain and looked at her daughter. She looked so small lying in the hospital bed and she was really pale. Hermione sat in the chair that Severus needed to sit in earlier and she took her baby’s hand. “Hey Aly bear, Mommy is here. I love you.” Hermione said through her tears and she laid her head on the bed next to her daughter’s.

Hermione must have fallen asleep because when she woke up there was candy and flowers all around the bed. She looked at her daughters face and saw that there wasn’t much change.

“Oh Hermione you are awake. We came by earlier but you both looked so peaceful we didn’t want to wake you.” Ginny came and sat next to her and they both watched Alyson breathe. “Hermione I heard how you reacted to Severus. You can not blame him for this.”

“He should have been watching her Ginny. She nearly died; I wouldn’t be able to handle it if anything happens to her.” Ginny shook her head clearly she did not agree with Hermione, but decided against saying so. She left a short while later and Hermione stayed right where she was.

It was two days later that Alyson finally woke up.

“Mummy, my head hurts.”

“I know it does sweetie, Madame Pomfrey went to get you a potion for your head.”

“Mummy where’s daddy? I need to say sorry.”

“Why on earth would you need to say sorry Alyson?”

“I need to say sorry because daddy told me not to run and I did it any way. I don’t want him to be angry at me.”

“Oh sweetie daddy isn’t mad at you.” Mad at me is more like it. How could I be so mean and stupid? Hermione thought to her self.


“Can daddy come see me then? Please.”

“I will ask him to come see you tomorrow when we get home ok.”

“Ok” she agreed reluctantly.


Madame Pomfrey let Alyson go home the next morning with the promise that she would stay in bed for two more days. Hermione asked Ginny to stay with Alyson for a little while so that she could go and apologize to Severus.


Hermione remembered standing in this exact place almost six years earlier and she reached up to knock on the door.

“What do you want?” Severus snapped when he saw who knocked on his door.

“Can I come in Severus? I need to talk to you, please.”

He moved to the side to allow her to pass and watched her sit with some difficultly on his couch.

“Severus I am so sorry. I spoke with out getting the whole story and I was scared.” She looked at him begging for forgiveness. “It wasn’t your fault at all. It was an accident I understand that now.”

Severus stared at her he hated seeing her so sad and he wanted to comfort her, but she also hurt him and that wasn’t easily forgivable. “Thank you for your apology. If I could have kept her from falling and getting hurt I would have. I never want to see that little girl get hurt again. I love her so much.”

Hermione was stunned Severus had not said that he loved Alyson yet and she finally discovered how much she hurt him by denying him his daughter and by accusing him of hurting her. “Alyson would like to see you, if you want to come up with me.”

There was a ghost of a smile on his face when he said that he would like very much to see her. He helped Hermione off the couch and they headed to Hermione’s apartment.

“Daddy!” Alyson yelled when he appeared at the doorway to her bed room and after stepping over the toys that littered the floor her sat down on the bed and Alyson climbed into his lap and proceeded to cry. “Don’t hate me daddy. Please don’t be mad at me and go away. I didn’t mean to disobey you.”

“Oh Alyson” Severus said through his own tears. He pulled his daughter back to look at her in the eyes. “Alyson Eileen Granger I could never ever hate you. You are the best daughter a guy could ask for and I never plan to leave you. I love you and I am just happy that you are ok.”

“I love you too daddy.” Alyson said sniffling into his robes and eventually falling asleep in the comfort of her daddy’s arms. Neither one of them noticed Hermione walk away wiping her own tears off her cheeks.
