Ms. Goodbody

Ms. Goodbody

“Harry,” Ron said sorting through a stack of books. “What was that ‘wind something’ book for Defense Against the Dark Arts again?”
“That would be ‘Wendigo and other Shapeshifting Terrors of the New World’”.
Harry and Ron looked up at the woman who had answered open mouthed. She was exceedingly beautiful with hazel eyes and shoulder length blond hair. She wore a black outfit clearly modeled on the black robes and wide brim pointed hat that many witches wore but unlike the traditional loose robes, hers were tailored to follow the curves of her body closely. The collar was open at the neck and rose sharply around the back. Her accent marked her as from the American East Coast.
“Hello,” she said to the staring boys. “I’m Endora Goodbody. I’m teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts this year.”
Harry and Ron stammered variations of ‘pleased to meet you’
Endora laughed.
“See you in class,” she said and continued on with her shopping as Harry and Ron stared on.
“I think I’m going to really enjoy Dark Arts this year Harry.”

“Ah, Ms. Goodbody nice to see you again.” Arthur said as Endora passed. “I’d like you to meet my wife, Molly.”
As they exchanged greetings, Harry and Ron proceeded out of the shop where Shippo was standing looking around.
“Where is Kit?” Shippo asked.

“Time to die, Son of Coyote.”
The mysterious Sidhe pointed his weapon at the immobilized Kit.
“Expelliarmus!”
The Elf’s weapon flew out of his hand with a shower of sparks as the disarmament spell interacted unpredictably with the strange device, apparently shorting it out. The Sidhe turned almost casually to face Harry standing at the entrance of the alleyway holding his wand out before him.

Harry had come looking to find Kit who had seemingly gotten lost. It was pure luck that brought him to this back alley to find an injured Kit being stood over by hooded figure and someone who looked like Legolas out of the Lord of the Rings only with longer ears. It looked like the hooded figure had just bitten the twitching Coyote in the shoulder and then when the other man raised the weapon he was holding, Harry reacted with a disarming spell. Now he stood his ground wondering just exactly what was he facing.

“Foolish mortal,” the Elf said calmly. “You think you can challenge us with your pathetic Human magics?”
“It seemed to work well enough,” Harry answered back with a bravado he didn’t feel.
“You only delay his death with your own,” the Sidhe said raising his hand.

Harry tensed not knowing what to expect. Kit however did know and breaking free of the pain that gripped him pulled himself up just enough to sink his fangs into the Sidhe’s back calf. The Sidhe let out a cry and the bolt of bael fire he was casting went awry. Normally bael fire burned silently destroying only living flesh, thus the numerous accounts of ‘spontaneous human combustion’, but whatever object it struck must have had some sort of magic cast on it. The two spells interacted spectacularly in an explosion that echoed down the alleyways and covering Harry in dust and smoke. Distant shouts arose at the sound, the Sidhe and his companion turned and fled.

The first thing Kit was aware of was Molly Weasley’s voice.
“Here dear, I have some wound cleaning potion and Murtlap paste in my bag.”
He felt warm hands rubbing something into his shoulder and the pain there receding.
He opened his eyes to find a blonde haired vision leaning over him. A man in stood behind her.
“Well hello,” he said trying to sound seductive and failing as he winced at the sharp pain in his shoulder as he moved.
“Hello yourself,” Endora said finishing up binding the wound.
“He is ok?” Toshiro said from behind the woman.
“I don’t know, I don’t like the look of that bite,” Endora said.
“Bite?” Kit said trying to move again.
“Lie still, I’m going to call my doctor to look at it.”

Endora stood.
“My friend is in trouble and in a bad way; hurry, hurry Dr. Bombay!”
With a flash, a young man in a doctor’s coat appeared. He was in his late 20s with dark hair and a solid build.
“Hello Endora,” he said smiling. “It’s good to see you again. What’s the emergency?”
“Mr. Coyote here was attacked by someone or something that bit him. Would you have a look?”
“Of course.” Dr. Bombay said as leaned down to examine Kit. “Hello Mr. Coyote, I’m Tom.”
“Kit.”
“Well this looks not so bad. Does it hurt much?”

“What happened?” a voice said from the crowd gathering in the alleyway.
“Was it Werewolf?” another voice said.
“It must have been he’s half turned into Wolf already.”
“I’m a Coyote you…” Kit started but the pain of yelling stopped him.
“Don’t be daft, it wasn’t a Werewolf,” the man standing behind them said pointing at the sky. “The sun is overhead and it’s only a quarter moon tonight.”
“If he is not a Wolf, what is with the ears and tail then?” The voice from crowd said.
“Feh, I’m Kit the Son of Coyote and this is my normal appearance, thank you.”

“Alright now, this is Mr. Coyote’s normal appearance.” Arthur said motioning the crowd to move away. “He is from America and is a guest of Ministry and Hogwart’s, so don’t pester him with foolish questions.”
“Alright then you heard Mr. Weasly. It’s perfectly normal so move along.”
As Arthur and the other man dispersed the crowd and then came back.

“Hello Doctor,” the man said, kneeling beside Tom. “I’m Adrian Darnell, an Auror with the Ministry. I know what we told the crowd but I have to ask, was it a werewolf?”
Tom was examining the wound with a round glass lens.
“Oh I don’t think so; at least I’m not seeing any sign of lycanthropy in the wound. Which is a good thing for you Kit, I’d hate to think what a werewolf bite would do with your canine physiology.”
Tom put away the glass and put an ointment on the wound before bandaging it up.
“I’ll think you’ll be just fine now.”
“Thank you,” Kit said.

Tom stood and talked to Endora.
“Its good to see you again, how are your parents?”
“They’re doing fine,” she said. “And yours?”
“They’re off on a private Antarctic expedition,” he said with a laugh. “I swear doctors should never marry their nurses, they spend their time playing doctor and nurse with each other.
Endora laughed, “according to Aunt Samantha, that’s all they did before they got married too.”

Shippo was helping Kit to stand.
“Who attacked you?” Shippo whispered so the others wouldn’t hear.
“It was a Sidhe,” Kit answered. “Probably from the Unseleighe Court, I need to call Llewellen.

~~~
From the shadows, two figures watched as the canines left with the dispersing crowd.
“Well, that complicates things a bit. Did you get what you needed?” The Sidhe asked.
“Yes Lord Valdune,” the hooded figure said.
“Good, but we will need another now.” Valdune said as he looked at the dispersing crowd. “And I think I know just the one.”
