There was a knock on the door as May continued to cry in Hermione\'s
arms. She walked to the door still holding the little girl. There
were tears in her eyes as she opened the door to find Severus
standing there. \"What\'s going on?\" Severus a, ho, holding a piece of
parchment. May kept her face buried in Hermione\'s shoulder. \"Please,
come in and sit down Severus.\" Hermione motioned toward a small couch
in her quarters. Severus nodded and entered. \"Why are you two in
tears?\" he asked, confused. Hermione sat down on the couch holding
May on her lap. \"She was asleep in my room and I heard her
screaming,\" she began. \"I went in to comfort her, and….well….\" she
stammered, she told me something. Severus, what did they tell you
about your bother\'s death when they brought Mashka to you?\"
\"That it was being investigated. I just received the
official report during the detentions. Why do you ask?\" Severus
asked, concerned. May began sucking her thumb, looking
frightened. \"Well, what does it say?\" Hermione prodded. Does it say
that May had anything to do with it?\" she whispered. Severus\' jaw
dropped. May? What did she tell you?! It doesn\'t even mention
anything about her except being a witness!\" Hermione looked down at
scared little May. \"I need to tell your uncle what you told me,
sweetheart. Don\'t worry, I promise he won\'t mad at you, ok? May
nodded. \"Somebody tell me NOW,\" he nearly shouted from frustration.
May whimpered and started to cry harder. Hermione told Snape
everything that had happened since May woke up screaming. She rocked
the little girl as tears started to fill Hermione\'s eyes
again. \"Bloody Merlin,\" Snape whispered. \"Hermione, I honestly do not
know what the Ministry would do in a situation like this. Their
report says they believe it was Natalya who cast the spell before
dying. I see no reason to tell them any different,\" he says
gravely. \"Can you explain that to Mashka?\" Hermione asked him
doubtedly.
\"Perhaps the both of us can,\" Snape said. \"Mashka, look at me,\"
Snape said. May kept her face buried in Hermoine\'s shoulder. \"I
shouldn\'t have shouted,\" Snape muttered. \"It\'s alright Mashka. Can
you please listen to uncle Severus?\" Hermione coaxed her a little.
May looked over at Snape. \"Mashka, sweetheart,\" he said very
softly. \"You didn\'t do anything bad, ok? Nobody thinks you did. But,
lets keep it a secret, ok? Just us three, so nobody comes and….uh…um…
spanks us, alright?\" May nodded and at the word spank, rubbed her
bottom. \"No spank more,\" she whispers. Snape looks at Hermione. She
looks back at him with a worried look on her face. `He couldn\'t
possibly get too mad at May after all she\'d been through tonight,
could he?\' she wondered. \"What is she talking about Hermione?\" Snape
asked, his face growing slightly darkery ruy rubbed her bottom again.
\"She wasn\'t behaving and I did have to spank her. But, she felt
really bad about it,\" Hermione added, d shd she was really good and
went right to sleep after that.\" She hoped she could save May from
any more heartache tonight. \"Maria, that was naughty, wasn\'t it?\"
Snape asked sternly. May nodded. \"And what did I say would happen if
you weren\'t good for Hermione?\" \"Spank,\" she whispered, tears coming
to her eyes. \"Come here, he ordered. \"Oh, Severus!\" Hermione
exclaimed. \"Hasn\'t she been through enough for one night? I mean…\"
she stammered nervously; She didn\'t like the look he was giving
her, \"with everything with her parents and all. And, she did already
get a spanking from me tonight,\" Hermione was pleading with him now.
Severus sighed. \"Alright, just this once.\" \"thank, mama,\" Mashka
thanks Hermione. Snape\'s eyebrow rose. \"Excuse me?\" Hermione shrugged
her shoulders in a helpless gesture. \"She asked if she could call me
mama,\" she started to explain. \"It seemed really important to her and
I didn\'t have the heart to tell her no. I think she\'s just looking
for some kind of security in her life, Severus, but if it bothers you
I will find something else she can call me.\" Severus shook his
head. \"No, that\'s alright. Just caught by surprise.\" May crawled onto
Snape\'s lap. \"Papa?\" she said
