The First Day

Lucas opened his eyes and saw a wrapped gift on the table next to his bed. He reached over and picked up the gift. It was wrapped in Ravenclaw blue with a silver ribbon. He carefully opened it to reveal a black leather book and a letter. He set the book to one side as he opened the letter to reveal neat handwriting.

(LETTER)

Dear Lucas

I hope you don’t mind me referring to you by your first name, but with how much my son talks about you, I feel I already know you. My son is Deimos Rosier and I am his mother Selene Yaxley. He talks about you all the time and about how much you loved stories.

This book will let you read any story you want. All you need to do is say the name of the story you want to read and open the book and their it will be or you can say what you want in your story/or an author and open the book and choose from a list of stories and the book will show you whichever story you choose from the list. Also I know that you don’t have an owl and made this book so you could stay in contact with my son. All you have to do is say his name and open the book and then write whatever you want and he has a book that the message will show up in and he can write in that book and it will show up in yours. I also set up a book for myself and it works the same way as yours and my son’s. If you want to write to me all you need to do is say Selene. If you open the book without saying anything, any unread messages will show up.

I linked the book to the first person to touch it, so now only you can read and use it and anyone else that you give permission to. That means that anyone else, will just see a blank book and will not be able to read it or see anything you write. There is also a spell on it, so if it is lost or taken from you, it will always come back to you.

I would of given it to you myself, but my son being the possessive one, wanted to spend as much time alone with you as he could and to give you his gift, so I gave it to my son to give to you. I hope you like your gift.

Write soon.

Selene

He couldn’t believe it, now he could talk to Deimos whenever he wanted, he wouldn’t have to be alone. As he got dressed, he looked back at the book and once he was dressed, he picked the book up.

Maybe he should test it out. What story? He picked up the book and said

‘‘Stories about Unicorns’’ and opened the book, to reveal a list of stories.

Which one should I choose?

-The Unicorn with dark marks

-The Serpent and the Unicorn

-Valley of Unicorns

Myth of the Black Unicorn I’ve never heard anything like that.

He closed the book and said

‘‘Story of the Myth of the Black Unicorn’’ and opened the book to reveal the story.

Lucas was so engrossed in the story that he didn’t even look up as he entered the kitchen. It was only, while making his breakfast of a scrambled egg and a slice of toast, that he put the book down, but while he sat at the table and ate he had his book open again and was reading it.

***************************************************************************

That’s how Lily found her youngest son quarter of an hour later as she entered the kitchen. He was at the table, reading a book, but she didn’t see any words.

‘‘Good Morning Lucas. Did you sleep well?’’

‘‘Yes Mrs Potter’’ he replied. It hurt Lily more than anything that her youngest son didn’t seem to remember her. She’d always envisioned the day when they met again and hearing him call her ‘Mum’. She new it was her fault and her husbands, they’d forgotten about Harry and it wasn’t until he turned up at Hogwarts she’d remembered him, but he’d changed his name and it hurt her, that her son changed his name. She was the one who decided to name him Harry and it hurt her that he would now never respond to it. He was Lucas now, not her little baby Harry that she had left with her sister so many years ago. When it came out about how he’d been treated at her sisters it broke her heart. She should of known, but in first year, when he first came to Hogwarts and seemed to want nothing to do with any of them, she’d just been so hurt and ignored him and everyone had followed suit. She’d caused him so much pain, but at least now she could start to make it up to him.

‘‘I see you already made yourself breakfast’’

‘‘Yes Mrs Potter. I hope it’s alright. I can pay you back’’ It made her feel even worse; he was asking if it was alright to eat, like he’d done something wrong by having food.

‘‘Of course it’s alright and you don’t have to pay me back, I bought the food for everyone, including you.’’ He just turned back to his book and a couple of minutes later her husband came in with her two older children, Rose and Michael. They were laughing and joking as usual and as they sat at the table, she could only look at her youngest son sadly, what would he of been like if they had kept him with them. He was so quiet, sitting there reading that book and at Hogwarts, he was always so quiet. Her other children were always so loud and full of energy, but Lucas was so docile. They didn’t even interact with each other, if she could just find something that they could all do together, but what?

‘‘Dad will you show us some more Quidditch moves?’’ Michael asked

‘‘Of course I will’’ Her husband replied

That was a perfect idea. They could all go flying. Her husband and children loved to fly. Lucas could bond with them over Quidditch and flying.

‘‘James, why don’t we go flying today, we could take a picnic. Make it a family day out’’

‘‘That’s a great idea Lily. After breakfast and collect the broom and the Quidditch balls.’’ James replied

‘‘Children go upstairs and get your Quidditch gear and anything else you want to bring’’ she said and went back to the kitchen to pack a picnic. This would be the perfect opportunity for them to bond as a family. After all what Potter didn’t like flying and Quidditch.

***************************************************************************

The Potters set up their picnic at the base of a tree in a field close to their Manor. As James was enlarging everyone’s Quidditch gear, the balls and the brooms, Lily was setting up the picnic, while the two elder Potter children were discussing Chudley Canons, their favourite team. While all of this was going on Lucas was sitting on the grass reading his book.

‘‘Alright, everyone getup in the air and we can stat throwing the Quaffle around.’’ James said and as everyone got on their brooms and were about to push off, Lily suddenly noticed her youngest son, who was still sitting on the grass reading his book.

‘‘Come on Lucas’’ Lily said ‘‘You don’t want to miss the fun’’

‘‘That’s alright Mrs Potter. I’ll just stay’’

‘‘What are you talking about? Come on we’re going to go flying’’ Michael said, but Lucas didn’t respond and Rose was getting annoyed with her youngest brother, who was taking so much time, she wanted to go flying.

‘‘Come on. Get on your broom. It’d not like you haven’t flown before.’’ She said

‘‘I haven’t flown before’’ Lucas replied

‘‘What do you mean of course you have! I taught you flying, in your first year of Hogwarts’’ James said. How could his son say he’s never flown before, of course he has, he remembered their first lesson together, he’d been....

Why couldn’t he remember his son flying? That first lesson where had he been?..He hadn’t allowed him to fly. But the second lesson he had, but he’d just remained sitting against the wall. He’d never seen him fly, but why not? He’d given him a school broom and now he had his brand new one. Rose and Michael had already taken their new brooms for a ride. They rode them right after they got them in that Quidditch match at the party....Where had Lucas been?

‘‘Well then, I’ll teach you to fly now then.’’ Then we can all go flying.

‘‘I don’t want to fly Mr Potter’’

‘‘What do you mean you don’t want to fly, everyone wants to fly’’ Michael said

‘‘I’ve seen people flying and I don’t like it’’ Lucas replied ‘‘That first flying lesson where I had to sit out and then the Gryffindor boy broke his wrist and then when everyone was flying and then you and Draco Malfoy started arguing and I just don’t want to go flying anymore.’’

After that no matter what the Potter’s tried, Lucas refused to get on a broom. In the end the Potter’s gave up and the four of them played Qudditch, leaving Lucas alone on the ground.

Alone to be comforted by Deimos, through the book, realising that the Potter’s were disappointed in him and who he was.

If only they realised what leaving Lucas alone would do.

If only they showed Lucas they cared, then he wouldn’t have to find comfort in Deimos.

If only they new what was happening right below them.
