6 – Things that need to be done
A/N: Here I am, once again . . . Wasn’t that a song?
Huh . . . anyway. Seeing that I can’t get to work because I’m still sick I spend my time working on those little things on my computer . . . for the joy of my beta and everyone else who likes to read my bad stuff.
. . . And as I said; now we get sappy . . . more or less.
“I’m pregnant.”
Surprised he blinked and bit his lip. He hadn’t meant to blurt it out like that . . . really but somehow his nerves had taken oven and he had said it in one rush of bravery and it came out so . . . so brusque.
With furrowed brows, Draco looked at his family and felt torn between screaming and running away or laughing his ass off because of their stunned and shocked faces.
His eyes went wide for a little moment when the hut shook because its owner had fallen on the floor . . . in shock.
He really had done it.
It had taken him a while but finally he had his family surrounding him in Hagrid’s hut and shocked them into the next millennium.
It had taken him quite some time too; to admit to himself that all those people he had dreamed of really were his family . . . all of them.
And now they would face death earlier because of his bluntness.
With a deep breath he looked down on the cup of hot chocolate in his hands and then up again. He had practically forced Hagrid away from his kitchen supplies and had done the cooking and baking alone because he didn’t want his family to die of those murder-cookies Hagrid often forced on them.
Well . . . great job Draco, now they die anyway.
Hermione was staring at him as if hell had broken out and he didn’t know how he could convince her that it actually was the complete different. He held new life . . . not death.
Neville had fainted and was lying on the ground, gurgling silently to himself.
Pansy beside him covered her mouth and tried to get her eyes under her control again, right now not caring a bit that her boyfriend was laying beside her, unconsciousness.
Sev had been threatened with a month without sex to actually step into the hut and was now rambling that he should have stayed away . . . sex or no sex! He just continued to shake his head and mumble some mean things only he could understand.
But it had been quite funny watching his jaw drop in utterly and complete astonishment.
Professor Lupin was breathing heavily asking quietly every now and then, why he had taken the potion now, when he still had one and a half school years to attend to and then he was huffing and asking again.
Blaise had stared open mouthed at him for only a short time until he started laughing so hard that he actually had fallen on the ground trying to breathe during his attack. Of cause, he had known; it was just like him, Draco thought and then his eyes glued themselves on Harry . . . after a short look to a stunned Hagrid still sitting on the floor.
His lover had a strange gleam in his eyes but was so shocked that his mouth still hung open. From time to time, he gasped silently but couldn’t hold his jaw under control long enough . . . so it dropped again. And those dark emerald eyes were staring at him with this strong emotions Draco couldn’t name in his distress.
Nervously, he shifted and tried to find some words to get them out of their stupor but he just couldn’t think of any right now.
What to do? What to do?
His thoughts rambled and he twisted in anxiety and misery.
His mother actually had only needed one look at him when he had arrived at home for his Christmas break and had stunned him at least the same way he had done to the other part of his family just now. Of cause in his shock, he hadn’t believed a word until his father had giving up to convince him and had ordered for a healer.
The result had been the same; he was pregnant!
“Draco, are you sure?” Hermione puffed finally out, still looking scandalized at him.
“Why, of cause I am!” he sulked back at her, just the slightest bit offended.
He should know his body the best, shouldn’t he?
“But . . . it’s too early . . .” Pansy squeaked and shook her head in disbelieve. “You only have wished . . . short time! How could you . . . now . . . only when . . . “
“It just happed I think!” the blonde snapped and turned away from them, now he was angry and hurt. Of cause, it didn’t just happen because with his strong desire for a child his genes had kicked in again. They seemed to do this often lately.
“Have your parents told you about it?” he heard the potion master ask and looked over his shoulder at him, crossing his arms protectively over of his chest, his mug still in his hand.
“Mother had mentioned it once . . . and was ecstatic about the news.” Draco muttered with a low tone in his voice.
“Stop babbling already! For god’s sake! He hadn’t taken a damn potion Remus, he’s a veela! Of cause he would reproduce fewer or later!” the potion master suddenly hollered and pushed the DADA Professor slightly, who stumbled shortly until he seemed to come back to his mind and growled at his lover angrily. But as always when they fought, the potion master just ignored him. “Fewer . . . in this case.” the man mumbled silently to himself and anyone who was listening.
And Draco smiled softly to himself, still turned with his back to his family circle. Now they would start to think, he thought and shook his head in amusement.
He was only three weeks into his pregnancy but his mood swifts were already there. Maybe he should visit Pomfrey later and let himself checked over again. Or would the library hold more information for him, he then mused with a frown and shook his head again.
“Hermione, may I ask . . . “ the blond teen started but stopped abruptly when he caught that glint in his lover’s eyes again. His breath hitched slightly when he saw the smirk on his lips and his hand moving almost unnoticeable.
“Harry what . . . “ he all but screamed and vanished mid sentence in front of their every eyes, the cup he had been holding, falling untouched to the ground.
Several of them shrieking his name in surprise, except for the Wonder Boy . . . and the still unconsciousness Neville, of cause.
And then the boy-who-lived turned on his heels and escaped the hut as fast as he could. He had quite some businesses with his lover now.
“Don’t you dare running away from me like this Potter!” he distantly heard the Potion Professor scream after him but he just laughed about this lame threat. “How dare you making him . . .”
He stormed through the halls and met Draco halfway on his way to Gryffindor tower, where he had spelled his lover.
“Potter! You stupid oaf! You could have warned me before you go all super-hero on me!” the blond Slytherin shouted enraged and marched right into the arms of his ‘attacker’.
But the raven-haired teen just laughed and turned him in his step, pushing him up the stairs again and into his dorm room.
He didn’t need to say anything because he knew Draco could see the happiness shine in his eyes. He would be a father! Sure, it was a bit early like Pansy had said but that doesn’t lessen his joy about the fact that they were having a baby.
“You’re happy?” the blonde asked suddenly shy and lowered his eyes.
“Of cause! Why wouldn’t I?” he confessed a bit confused about the question. He had been sure Draco had seen it in his eyes.
And Draco huffed a sigh of relieve there as if . . .
“I’m sorry but I feel a bit like I’m on a rollercoaster of emotions right now.” he then mumbled and rubbed his cheek softly when Harry only laughed again.
“Come here you fussing Slytherin.” the raven-haired teen mumbled and patted the place on his bed right beside him. “I want to cuddle you.”
And such an offer the Draco couldn’t deny himself so he crawled over to his lover and snuggled himself into his waiting arms.
He sighed softly when he felt Harry kissing his temples and forehead and closed his eyes in contentment.
“What about the others?”
“What about them?”
“We can’t leave them just like that!”
“We just did.”
“Harry!” the blonde whined and shifted until he had pressed his lover down and nuzzled close to him and let himself caressed softly.
The teen only laughed and kissed the top of his lover’s head again.
“How did it happen?” the happy Gryffindor asked and kissed his Slytherin’s temples again when he shifted in embarrassment.
“You remember our sex a day before I had to go home?” he stuttered and twisted even more.
“How couldn’t I?”
“Well . . .”
“I see.” Harry laughed proudly and felt his lover relax again.
“How did you know?”
“Mother told me when she got her first look at me.”
“Great Christmas gift . . . even when Christmas is already over.”
“Exactly my thoughts!”
“I need to see Pomfrey later . . . there are still some things I don’t know.” Draco then mumbled and pressed a tender kiss on Harry’s neck.
“Mhm . . . we go there later. But now . . . I think it’s a nap time.” the emerald-eyed teen yawned and closed his eyes tiredly. After all, they already had a hard day of classes and classmates behind them and dinner had been over too, which Draco had missed.
“You hungry?” he mumbled softly and stroked his lover’s belly gently.
“Hagrid had allowed me to rumble through his fridge.”
“Hagrid has a refrigerator?” Harry asked almost shocked. He hadn’t noticed it before and he had been in that hut how often?
“Of cause, where do you think he stores his ingredients for his murder-cookies?” the blond Slytherin laughed softly, already feeling sleep overcome him. Maybe Harry was right, a little nap sounded great.
***
“You should have come earlier! But how the hell . . . mhm . . . creature’s blood . . . veela; great consistence . . .” the medi-witch mumbled in her own thought, missing the troubled looking boys’ eyes completely and swinging her wand steadily.
“Maybe we should have gone to the library.” Draco mused softly and watched the medi-witch spinning around and thinking in her own little world but his lover only smiled.
“Well boys!” she suddenly cried out and locked eyes with them for the first time after her short check of the blonde little one.
“Seeing that you’re a Silver-veela . . . you can easily reproduce as much children as you want but be warned a veela’s child is drawing the energy of the mother.
The stronger the parents the stronger the energy draw. And both of you are quite tough . . . I think I don’t have to mention . . . be prepared that you will be very weak and every kind of magic will be difficult for you because your child absorbs all that energy to get strong as well.” she explained with a neutral tone in her voice and sharp eyes.
Gulping Draco looked to the ground until he felt Harry tickling his side softly. He looked up with a puzzled expression on his eyes and furrowed his brows as the happy twinkle in his lover’s eyes.
Oh shit . . . had he bonded to the headmaster; was he getting a child with bloody Dumbledore?
Suddenly annoyed he slapped Harry on the back of his head and watched satisfied when the teen jerked slightly.
“I insist on a check every week for now . . . later every second day! Understood?” she demanded and finally shooed the teens out of her infirmary.
It had been a long time since she had a pregnant veela as a patient and needed to do a lot of research to be able to keep this boy from harm and protect his child.
With a swirl of her robes, she marched right into her office again and closed the door softly.
And Harry was happy, very happy and in his joyful mood he pushed his blond lover out, silently getting their cloaks into his outstretched hand.
With a little laugh, he dressed Draco in his and put on his own during his march outside to the lake.
“Stop pushing me! I can walk on my own you know!” the Slytherin shouted and pushed his lover’s hands away.
“Let’s sit by the lake for a while until everyone is inside again.” Harry suggested and smiled softly.
“It’s almost curfew! I am a prefect!” his blond dragon protested instead and started to walk to the castle again.
“Nothing like that Dragon! You stay here with me.” the raven-haired one answered and shook his head slightly.
Silently he pressed his lover down and onto his lap, forcing him to lean against him and looking over the frozen water.
Amused, he watched Pansy marching towards the castle, Neville hot on her tail, shouting some apologies after her.
He remembered with a smile how the two of them had finally gotten together. Right after their Herbology project.
Neville taking all his bravery and shouting right into her face that he was in love with her and wanted them to be together, going on dates and all the kissing stuff.
With a little laugh, Harry remembered Pansy staring at the Gryffindor as if he had lost his mind, making him frown. Then she had started laughing like mad, making him shuffle and finally she had taken a deep breath and muttered a short okay to him, making him smile brightly at her. He had noticed that Pansy had longed for that smile . . . he knew when he witnessed something like that, after all he was looking in almost the same way at Draco from time to time.
“I need to talk to you about a few things . . .” he mentioned softly, holding him close. His face had suddenly lost his entire happiness and he was watching over the lake concentrated . . . almost angry.
Draco was silent and turned a bit in Harry’s lap, sitting now sideways so he could look into his lover’s eyes. Carefully he pushed his hand through the raven locks and felt the body beneath him relax.
“Dumbledore told me about the Hocruxes which are needed to be destroyed before we fight the Dark Lord again. They must be destroyed to prevent him from coming back ever again and it seems that this is one of my tasks as well.” Harry hummed never looking at his lover during his speech but when Draco didn’t responded to his words he turned slightly.
He could see that the blonde was angry now . . . almost furious but still calm and confident. He never stopped stroking though his hair, massaging his scalp tenderly.
“Don’t think that; you’re never alone again.” Draco mumbled and kissed his lips softly, receiving a soft smile that was gone as fast as it had come.
“Now . . . what are Hocruxes?”
“Simply said . . . parts of his soul.” Harry mumbled again and leaned into his lover’s touch.
“Mhm . . . when?”
“We already started . . .” the raven-haired teen said silently and looked away again. “During Christmas break. I thought it would be hard to be alone now . . . with you and Hermione and all gone . . . but it hadn’t been as bad as I thought it would be.”
And there he chuckled softly when he noticed the scandalized pout coming to his dragon’s lips and kissed them tenderly before his eyes wandered back over the lake again.
“I still had missed you . . . very much but my mind was always on this damn Hocruxes Dumbledore and I searched for. We had found one . . . He hadn’t wanted me to destroy it . . . and now his arm is worse than before.”
Draco waited silently, knowing that his lover had more on his heart and mind and caressed his hair and face lovingly, calming him and trying his best to tell him that he wasn’t alone . . . never again. That he had a family now.
“When he was distracted by an old witch I could catch a look at his arm. The skin is almost black . . . as if burned . . .”
“I see.” Draco mumbled and pressed himself closer to the other body wanting to comfort him, still stroking through the raven locks.
“I don’t know what’s coming next.” Harry finally admitted and pressed his face in the blonde’s neck.
“I know.” he replied and closed his eyes.
They looked over the lake in silence, both lost in their own thoughts for a while.
“Harry.” The blonde finally mumbled and caught his lover’s attention again. Smiling gently he looked into those emerald eyes, locking their gazes. First, the raven-haired teen’s brows had furrowed but then he had lost himself in his silvery deeps, losing track of time completely.
Just after a few silent minutes, the blonde spoke again and there was a strange but strong and confident tone in his voice.
“Everything will be alright!”
***
The next morning was strangely silent in the Great Hall and the students looked tired and powered out, Draco more than anyone else was. He hadn’t been able to find sleep easily the night before and had laid in Harry’s arms, thinking . . . about those things that needed to be done now. He knew that when Dumbledore was already searching for these Hocruxes . . . they wouldn’t have much time.
Silently he watched over the Hall.
The teachers looked puzzled . . . Sev and Remus were still stunned, he assumed when he noticed their looks. The students . . . well, they were tired but he didn’t know why . . . he just knew that they would be even more tired this evening.
He noticed a Ravenclaw looking at him and let his eyes wander. His second in Ravenclaw; and with a single nod he motioned the boy over to him.
Smirking, he noticed the hurry in which the boy ran to his side and finally crouched beside him; as if would stand up to talk to him!
“There will be a meeting tonight. Take care that everyone comes. No excuses!” Draco hissed silently and watched satisfied when the boy nodded hurriedly and ran over to his table again.
“What kind of a meeting?” Blaise suddenly disturbed his little cloud of power and Draco blinked shortly.
“We don’t have much time left . . .” he then mumbled back and looked calmly at his fiend.
Blaise knitted his brows in short confusion until his eyes suddenly cleared and he nodded, leaving Draco in his thoughts again and informing their house.
He knew that in no time every single Ravenclaw and Slytherin would know that there was an extra training session tonight and he could almost hear the crowds groan of tiredness. Now he only needed to tell the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs . . . with Pansy as his second, girlfriend of a Gryffindor, no problem.
And just as he had thought that, Dumbledore motioned his lover over to his place and was probably telling him that they would meet tonight.
His eyes gleamed when Harry was looking at him again and he smiled silently to himself when his lover’s eyes darkened in annoyance.
Now he could train the crowd correctly. Harry sometimes thought his methods too harsh and stoic . . . they fought over it often . . . and now Harry had his own training.
In the end, he knew confidently, they would fight their best and Tom Riddle wouldn’t stand a chance. Beside . . . he didn’t even know that the most of his supporters had already shifted sides . . . thanks to his father.
“Post.” Pansy whispered beside him and he looked up surprised. He hadn’t noticed that the owls had already arrived when normally they weren’t to overhear in the noise their wings made when they circled the Great Hall.
“Tell Neville.” he mumbled silently and received a short nod from her.
He was even more surprised when there suddenly landed a letter in his breakfast. Would he just have eaten faster . . . Muttering he fished for his wand and spelled the mess away so he could open his letter and not paint his robes with jam and a piece of bacon.
Sighing, he opened the envelope and smiled softly when he noticed his mothers writing.
Hello darlin’,
How are you feeling? Have you already told everyone? I just hope you have.
Your father sadly lost his patients after the last meeting, the Dark Lord had ordered. He wants Harry to officially marry you and prevent your coming child from being a bastard. This is just a little warning, darlin’ . . . I don’t know what Lucius had written to your beloved but I suggest that you’ll be careful and handle him a bit softer than usual.
If Harry will marry you . . . would there be a little chance that I can organize it? Of cause there will be! Who would deny his mother her greatest wish to organize the wedding of her child? Don’t you think?
I already have a great plan for you and your robes and Harry’s and mine and . . . oh the bride’s maid! You know that you’re the bride, don’t you? If you would be home, you could hear me laugh. I wish you could hear my joyous soft laughter.
Oh well . . . take good care of Harry, darling’!
And don’t forget that we love you!
Mother
Draco suddenly had the odd wish to cry. How had it happened that his mother had lost her mind? Hopefully, the Dark Lord hadn’t get his hand on her . . . or he would pay with his life . . . after they dealt with this damn Hocruxes!
Not that she hadn’t been crazy before.
Worried he looked over at his lover and noticed the dark look on his face. He was annoyed, even more than before . . . almost angry.
It didn’t seem that his father had been polite or at least only suggesting. Sadly, he shook his head and handed his letter to Blaze.
He watched his friends reading, Pansy leaning over Blaise’s shoulder, and could see that they wanted to laugh . . . who wouldn’t? But still . . . Harry was not happy. With a gentle smile he motioned over to the fuming Gryffindor and watched their faces took worried and then angered expressions. Right now, he wasn’t sure what would happen next or what he should do.
###
Fuming, he looked down onto the sheet of paper in his hands again and was ready to throw it into the next fireplace. How dare Lucius Malfoy . . .!
He had completely forgotten what a jerk this man was when Draco talked about his parents as if they were normal loving parents!
He hadn’t really thought of it, he had to admit . . . but that seemed unnecessary either, so . . . And he hated it when he was forced to do something, when he wasn’t able to think of it alone, to make his own decisions . . .
Confused by his own angry thoughts, he looked down onto the letter again and his eyes narrowed even more. But suddenly his head snapped up and he looked straight over to the Slytherin table and into Draco’s worried eyes. Was he behind this too . . . did he want to marry him just because he didn’t want their child being a bastard? This kind of action would suit him . . . but somehow he didn’t believe in it.
Still . . .
Shortly he looked at Hermione and Neville until he suddenly stood and left the hall in heavy steps. Troubled, the two Gryffindors looked over at the Slytherin table too and noticed the angry expressions on their friends’ faces. What had been this letter about? Who send it in the first place?
Harry was still captured in his angry mind while he marched through the corridors of Hogwarts and didn’t look left or right in his almost fury. Paragraphs of Lucius Malfoys letter entered his thoughts every now and then and left him stunning angry as fast as they had come.
Show your first act of honour and make him yours in right and law!
He already was his! Everybody knew it and only fools were trying to challenge him to his right . . .
He didn’t need this wizarding law to know and make every one else understand that Draco belonged to him and only him!
Hadn’t he himself told Draco that he now belonged to Harry Potter when the blonde had been at home before and during Christmas break?
It is your duty to keep him safe!
He already was safe! As safe as you could be with Voldemort marching around like a maniac. And Draco knew that he would do everything to keep him protected from every harm possible. Would Draco be more protected when he was rightfully his, Harry’s, in law too . . . when he was away with Dumbledore in their search for this Hocruxes?
Of cause not! All this marrying in front of the law would do nothing . . . it was just a better tax class!
The whole world would knows then to whom my son belonged and it pains me to admit it but he’s yours. Make it official and he’s yours in front of the entire world too!
That had sounded more like Voldemort when he had tried to pull him on his side, to be his little minion. But it was an argument he couldn’t deny this easily. But it would do nothing, even when they were married. No one is touching Draco now and the blonde made it clear himself, to everyone who didn’t knew it already, that he was taken! He didn’t need the law for that, Draco was his own law!
Don’t proof him untrue! And show him that he had chosen the wrong person to belong to! Otherwise, be prepared for the consequences!
What was the meaning of this? Did Lucius Malfoy actually think that he didn’t know that Draco would kill him three times when he thought to love the wrong person? It couldn’t be, after all shouldn’t he know his son? Or did he mean himself? That was almost ridiculous! He had tried how often now to get him dead and still hadn’t mastered it! Didn’t he know that too?
He needed to think! And he needed to find a place were he could think without any disturbance at all. It wouldn’t do him when Hermione suddenly stormed in and ordered him to think clearly.
He knew where to go and he knew what was to do to stay alone . . .
***
It had taken him almost a week to get to the bone of this problem. He still wasn’t really sure but he knew what he had to do now. Hopefully he would get to Draco before his entire house tried to rip him apart for hurting and ignoring their prince for an entire week.
But he had done it too, had stayed away from Harry and his friends to clear his mind completely! So why shouldn’t he take his time either?
However . . . he felt a little bad about it.
He took a deep breath and then stalked right through the wall and into the Slytherin common room. He almost had stopped then though when suddenly every eye was on him, glaring him into the ground. Moodily, he glared back at them with a cold mask on his face until he left, down the staircase to the snakes’ dorms. With a silent smirk, he listened to Pansy’s furious shrieking and stormed right into Draco’s room.
The blonde startled shortly and turned with blazing eyes to his interrupter. “Didn’t I tell you to stay outside or be very silent when I’m doing my . . .”
Amused, Harry lifted a brow when he stopped mid sentence and stared at him as if unreal.
“When you do your homework?” the raven-haired teen mumbled smoothly and stepped closer to his charge.
“Don’t call it homework! . . . It sounds so plebeian.” the blond Slytherin snarled back and turned to his essay again, without looking at the boy another time. Angered he gritted his teeth when his lover chuckled softly and set down on his bed. How dare he . . .!
“I assume, you got over your little crisis.” he said in an icy voice and huffed silently when the other boy just laughed again.
“Yep. Had taken me a while but I settled everything. Everything’s clear as crystal now.” the emerald-eyed boy laughed and looked at the blonde strangely.
“I needed to do a little research and couldn’t ask Hermione and had to do it alone. So it had cost me a bit of time but I covered all questions.”
They were beating around the bush, he was sure of that; they were beating around the bloody bush, but oddly, this argument about the research-part . . . somehow it sounded plausible. Who didn’t research with such a topic at hands?
Sighing, Draco turned and looked at his lover again.
“So?” he mumbled softly and watched the other boy with guarded silver eyes.
“Mhm?” Harry asked back and received an annoyed snort of his lover.
“So . . . what do you want?” the blonde snarled and glared at the boy spread out over his bed.
“Oh . . . that. I thought we could just talk a while before we turn to serious discussions and all.”
And he defiantly growled now. He really had tried to hold it back but with this sentence, he just asked for it. Harry just provoked him to come over, beat him into a little pool of goo, and then storm out of his own dorm.
“What, you don’t want to?” Harry asked with a small laugh and shook his head disappointed.
‘When did that boy turn into an annoying Slytherin?’ Draco requested himself sadly. Maybe his influence on him was too strong.
“Oh well . . . you know I can’t deny you anything when you look at me like that.” the raven-haired teen smirked and set up again, taking a sombre position.
“Draco Malfoy . . . would you give me the honour an allow me to take your hand in marriage?”
‘Oh my god, oh my god . . .’ he had known it would come, he had known. But where in Merlin’s name did Harry Potter learn to speak like that? Why was he suddenly so giddy when just a second before he had been upset, almost angry and now . . .
He was such a girl!
“Do you ask because father ordered you to or because you wanted to?” he politely demanded to know and watched his lover like a hawk.
He could see his hesitance and uncertainties and almost felt his heart crack there. That he hadn’t known.
“No, I ask because I wanted to.” Harry mumbled and suddenly felt like a little boy who was waiting for his punishment.
“I see.” he heard and looked up again, saw the pained and sad smile on the blonde’s face and felt like dirt for hurting him, even when he didn’t know how he had done it.
Draco felt broken, lost. He wanted to be alone right now. Wanted to be alone and break into tears so the pain would ease a bit. But when he would order the raven-haired boy out, he probably would shake his head and stay but he needed to be alone.
He hadn’t known that he wasn’t loved enough, trusted enough to be asked about that without the “help” of his parents. He hadn’t known that . . . he couldn’t find the right words in his mind to describe . . .
It was all untrue.
Shaky, he stood up and made his way over to the door. If he couldn’t order the boy out, he would go himself. With any luck his house mates would let him pass.
He could already feel the tears built in his eyes and knew he had to hurry when suddenly there were strong arms around him, holding him close and hindering him to leave.
And there was the sob building in his throat, threatening him and punishing him at the same time, wanting to be let free.
“It’s not like that Draco.” Harry hummed softly almost pleadingly right behind his ear and he tried to suppress the shudder. He wanted to ask, what he meant with that, if it was true that he . . . but he couldn’t. His throat was dry and hurt from the tears, which still threatened him so he just bent his head and looked at his feet.
“It’s true; I somehow needed that push from Lucius to actually think of marriage.” Harry admitted softly and held the quivering blonde closer as if he was fighting to break free.
“I always wanted a family, wanted to have a house, children and pets and good work and friends and . . . just peace.”
‘But not with me . . .’ Draco thought bitterly and couldn’t stop the almost silent sob this time.
“It just never crossed my mind that . . . I already had the most of it.” Harry pressed on, trying to explain himself and his intentions.
“What do you mean?” the blonde pressed though his tight throat and wanted to cough because of its dryness. But right now he didn’t understand what his . . . was he still his lover? . . . What his mate was telling him there, how he already had the most of it.
“I mean . . . Look. I found the one who is the most important to me, didn’t I?” the Gryffindor asked softly and rubbed gently over his lover’s belly.
“How would I know?” Draco answered sadly and twitched when he received a little smack on his head for his reply. It almost felt normal, Harry saying something and he misunderstanding it on purpose to annoy his partner a bit.
“I already have a big family and with you being pregnant it will be even bigger. No! . . . Let me explain! I know my parents are dead . . . but I don’t need them any longer. True it would be nice to have them still alive but it wouldn’t change a thing. We already are a great family.” Harry mumbled and suddenly went silent to organize his thoughts a bit. He felt slightly as if he was hanging in mid air and didn’t know how to reach the ground again.
“You and I . . . are already behaving like a married couple so I haven’t thought of that we aren’t. We share most times of the day, we love and fight each other, we share the same bed . . . where ever . . .
And we already have those who are related to us. Remus and Snape and sadly your parents . . . Ow!!!
We have our friends, true friends. Hermione, Neville, Pansy, Blaise . . . Merlin I just need to say the wrong word and I have those bloody Slytherins on my throat.” he continued after a deep breath, never stopping to rub Draco’s belly and not seeing the silent smirk on the Slytherin’s face.
“I still count to the Weasleys . . . even when Ron and I aren’t that greatest of friends anymore . . . but there still are the twins and Bill and Charlie . . . and suddenly Fleur too, and Molly and Arthur . . . they still count me one of them and so they count you too. And don’t forget Hagrid . . . and Madame Maxime and . . . did I forget someone?”
“No.” Draco mumbled shakily held in those strong arms. It just wasn’t possible, was it? It couldn’t be that Harry knew about . . . He hadn’t told anyone of that.
Harry was silent, waiting for the beautiful blonde in his arms to turn and immediately accept his apology and proposal. He was getting more nervous with every ticking second and started twitching inside until he noticed his lover was shaking in his arms, crying and turned him slowly.
“Why the tears Dragon?” he requested gently and caressed the soft cheeks.
“You idiot!” Draco cried out and wound his arms around his lover’s neck, pressing himself against him and hiding his face. He had told Harry that himself hadn’t he? He had told him that he had a family now.
“What, why?”
“You idiot!” the blonde cried again and almost pushed him in . . . relief and . . . punishment.
Stunned Harry stood there, holding the crying Slytherin in his arms and blinked in bewilderment. Hadn’t he just explained everything? He didn’t know how to describe his feelings in another ways . . . when Draco hadn’t understood what would he . . .
“You remember December, right before the Christmas break, after we . . . after we made up again? Back there I had a dream, which felt too real to be just a dream . . . but I’m not a seer so I left it alone . . . you just explained my own dream to me.” the blonde tried to express but it was hard to find the right words.
“I really don’t know what you want to tell me with that.” Harry mumbled confused and looked into teary silver eyes. “Doesn’t matter . . . “ Draco sighed and hugged him a little bit closer.
“But could you propose to me again?” he suddenly inquired shyly and lowered his eyes slightly.
“Would you give me the honour an allow me to take your hand in marriage?” the raven-haired teen laughed softly and felt wonderful warmth spreading through his complete body.
“I think about it.” Draco mumbled with a hidden smirk on his lips.
“What?!”
“You’re an idiot!” the blonde chuckled and smacked his husband-to-be just for good measure.
***
Now there was just one thing left. He needed to make his peace with the . . . Or at least he needed to try. It seemed to be important to Draco and he could understand why but still . . . why?
Nervously he knocked on that heavy door deep down in the dungeons and waited silently for his entry.
He startled slightly when the Potions Professor opened the door himself and almost jerked back. This definitely wasn’t the happiest situation he was in, definitely not.
“Harry Potter . . . To what do I earn the honour of your presence?” the man drawled lazily and stared down at him.
“Draco sends me.” he replied and immediately regretted his choice of words.
“What for?”
“Please Professor, can I come in? I don’t want to discuss that in the hallway.”
When Snape lifted a brow in surprise and just looked at him Harry wanted to turn and flee. He hated to do this, he really did . . . but it was for the better, wasn’t it?
Finally, the man stepped aside and he hurried inside. Nervously he looked at the professor again and pushed his hands though his hair roughly.
‘Get over with it!’ he ordered himself and straightened tensely, looking the man right into the eyes.
“Sir, I know it hadn’t been your best time around my dad and . . . But I’m not him! I know he was a jerk back in his . . . in your school time and probably deserved your hatred. But like I said, I’m not him! And I want you to accept my apology in my fathers . . . and my name.” the raven-haired teen practically screamed into the potion master’s face and suddenly watched his feet nervously again, missing the stunned and shocked expression on the man’s face completely.
“Well Potter . . . I don’t know if I should believe your words when you just told me that my godson was sending you.” Severus Snape drawled smugly, hiding his smirk as best s he could. But it was hard . . . this was a really hilarious situation he found himself in.
“Argh . . . somehow he did but somehow he didn’t.” Harry mumbled still looking at his feet.
“Cryptic answers won’t help you here! Look up and tell me that again . . . and mean it!” the Potions Professor snarled sharply and Harry’s eyes flew up.
Growling the emerald eyes of a Harry Potter darkened and he turned swiftly to . . .
“Don’t you dare leaving this room right now!” Snape barked and Harry twitched again. A screaming Snape was definitely worse.
###
It was silent around him, what was strange because Hagrid’s hut was full of people again, but they seemed to be stunned to death again.
He wasn’t sure how he had done it this time but their life span seemed to have lessened again because of him.
Suddenly Hermione sobbed loudly and he blinked surprised. And with Hermione doing the first noise hell broke out in Hagrid’s hut.
Draco feared for his own life shortly when there were two girls hanging on him, Hagrid sneezing into his tablecloth-tissue that a harsh wind blow through the little hut, Blaise laughing himself silly for the . . . again, consciousness leaving Neville again and a stammering Remus Lupin.
Hadn’t he been through this before? He was sure of it . . . Or had someone turned the time back without his notice?
He wasn’t sure what had stunned them this time this much, the news of Harry’s and his wedding or the mention of his strange dream.
And again he didn’t know what he should do now to calm them down a bit so they wouldn’t die just the next instant.
“Why are you crying? I thought this were happy news. Beside, you look stupid like this.” he mumbled a bit unsure and patted both girls’ shoulders.
“They are, they are!” Hermione sniffed out and pressed her face into his robes again.
“Oh Draco! Finally!” Pansy screamed into his ear, smacked his head and almost sneezed into his robes.
“Why Draco, you think you look pretty when you’re crying?” Blaise questioned smirking and lifted a brow, his laughing attack shortly interrupted.
“Of course! I always look pretty! And when have you seen me crying?” he replied smugly and then turned back to two howling girls and fussed over them a bit, just that they would feel better, really.
Blaise just laughed and shook his head. “Since when do you have visions?”
“Oh . . . I think this was a one-time experience, you know. Just a mistake of fate because usually this was meant for you and not for me.” Draco laughed silently and would have patted his friend on his shoulder now too if he would have a free arm.
“Oh, come on you two! Leave him alone already! It’s not that shocking you know!” Blaise mocked laughing and shook his head until those two crying girls were clawing at him.
“You are so insensitive again!” Pansy screamed and smacked him two times.
“What, me?” he asked, looking scandalized.
“Yes! You are!” suddenly both girls shouted into his face and he ducked his head slightly, his ears ringing.
“Let’s get going. Dinner starts soon.” Draco laughed and held the hut’s door open for them. “And Pansy, take care of Neville would you?”
Surprised he lifted a brow when she just slapped him and then smiled sweetly when the unconscious boy awoke slowly and blinked at her surprised. “You left us again, darling.” she purred softly and the boy’s cheeks reddened sharply.
“Get hurry already! I want to know how it went with Sev and Harry.” Draco muttered and waved his arms enthusiastically towards the castle.
“Why? What is with them?” Lupin suddenly wanted to know when he came out of his stupor.
“Harry apologised to him . . . or at least he had planned to.” the blonde mumbled in answer and looked thoughtful for a moment.
“Yes, that I want to know too.” the DADA Professor muttered to himself and waited until the teens were out the hut.
When he reached Draco, the blonde looked at him, smiled hesitantly and reached out his hand. “Remus.” he said silently and nodded politely when the teacher took his hand in an attempt to make peace.
“Come on Hagrid!” he shouted back into the hut and they heard a last sniff until the half-giant run after them, leaving the earth quavering.
“And put down that tissue of yours in there!” Draco demanded and shared a smirk with the DADA teacher before both laughed at Hagrid’s shocked expression when they followed their friends back into the castle.
A/N: Oh yes! Finally done! And that leaves only 6 further chapters until the very end of this. It took me quite some time . . . again, I know and I’m really sorry about that, really.
Any questions? You just need to ask you know because sometimes I forget that not every one understands my rambling, the meaning between events because I havn’t explained them. Oh well . . . till next time. ^-^
And without my beta knowing I publish this because her life had suddenly taken the toll of her and right now she just has no time to correct my writing. As soon as she’s done I will repost it.
By the way I am almost done with chapter 10 so far.
thrnbrooke:
But it wasn’t the end! Really it wasn’t. *shocked gasping* Still six chapters as I said. But I’m so thankful for your review and want to use this reply to everyone else who read this without leaving some scribbling for me: I am very disappointed with you, I truly am!
No, was just a joke. Of course, I’m not but this makes me love your writing to me even more. Thank you *grateful bowing*
I get another one, don’t I? ^_^
Huh . . .
