Chapter 6: In Detail
Hermione stood looking at the broken man but it was Barty there to lend the first comforting word. “Whatever your problems we will help you through them.”
But those words fell on deaf ears inside he was hollow and the wolf raged in an uncomfortable silence. Hermione dragged across the floor and laid hand on his shoulder, he barely registered her touch as he looked up at her. She covered her mouth in a silent scream, his eyes had become like the wolf’s cold, empty, hollow, he the man wasn’t there any more at least not in the emotional sense. Stroking his back with her hand she noticed several books about single parenting, Strapphord and Colberg’s Guide to Werewolves for Having a Happy Family, a box of letters of requests and a death certificate.
“Is that your …”Barty hesitated to say trying to avoid causing the man anymore pain.
He himself remembered being in such a state after Voldemort’s punishment for not killing Harry. He had begun to question his self worth contemplated suicide up until the day he decided to go outside of that house.
“Her name is Parvati Miracle Lupin…she’s a bit premature for a werewolf baby but as long as I feed her some of Rikart’s Preemie Formula she should catch up and be healthy.”
The box contained letters of requests from several witches and a few wizards in the forms of marriage and life long partnerships. Among the letters were several from current students and many formers like Hermione and Ginny some dating back before they were born.
“You know…he began not talking to anyone in particular…she didn’t want to be sent away but they thought it was best if she was because she would be safer. DeathEaters…he gave a hard look at Bart before softening it…came out of nowhere in the middle of the night after the holiday and killed them all except…” his eyes wavered towards the baby girl in the blanket.
“You two should go on and we’ll be alright!”
“Are you sure Remus?” he gave Barty a small smile before walking to the door.
“Did you know that when two werewolves have children together there is a five percent chance that they will be human.” With that they gave him his privacy.
The couple met up with Weasley clan breaking off boys and girls each going in a completely different direction. The boys first stopped at Madame Regimae’s Rings and things for the perfect ring.
She was a tall leggy woman with well rounded breasts and very little rump with vampire white skin and fairly large green eyes and near blood red hair. Wear black on black seemed to make her features stand out more as she intended them too. She eyed them all one bye one eyes snapping back and forth in sweeping motion before coming back to rest on Barty.
“So here’s the groom!” she said clapping her hands together eyes wild with child like glee.
“I’m…um…ah…looking for a ring for my love.”
“And what a love she must be for you to be here!”
He didn’t like this lady she was too damn cheerful for his liking give him just five minutes a long with her and she wouldn’t have that damn whimsical tone about her anymore. He knew more curses than just the simple cruciatus curse to make people pay for being so fucking happy.
“Did you here me love? No you were probably busy thinking about babies.”
“Sorry what did you say?”
“Place your hand over the Jeweler’s Box and think about your love!”
Thinking she might have been a little touched in the head he did what she said any way thinking about how intelligent and brave Hermione could be at times. How much love and hate she could show and how easily as she could save, he thought about how she looked and felt to him.
“Open the box!” he opened it and nearly let out a squeal of delight.
The ring was of pure gold, silver and platinum weaving together in a braid like fashion with the gold band in the style of a rose’s vine with thorns beautiful to the eye but deadly to the wrong touch, the silver band was ordinary in appearance but when he breathed on it it said “not of an age, but for all time” in Vladimir Script.
“It’s perfect!!” he shouted
“As I knew it would be!” exclaimed Madame Regimae as she clasped her hands together behind her back.
The girls sat in the parlor of Lady Lauren Fenmore Baldwin’s boutique surrounded by the finest selection of robes in all the wizarding world. Hermione felt as if she were surrounded by the muggle world’s most famous fashion designers as she sipped ever fizzing champagne.
“Well have you thought about style?”
“Something that draws attention to my best assets as I want every eye to be on me.”
“Okay that is a must. What about color?”
“Black it must be black!”
At hearing this Mrs. Weasley and Hermione’s mother began to protest but thought better of it since it was her ceremony and not theirs. A parade of models came out with fancy lack dresses some on the shoulders some not some with one should. All were rejected by the ever frustrated Hermione with a simple wave of the hand. Sitting down her glass of champagne Lady Lauren went over to her private collection and got out a long skin tight black silhouette that had just arrived that morning.
“This arrived by request this morning!” she said handing the dress to Hermione.
“Who requested?” she open the box and stared at it.
“Let’s see what the order papers say.” Walking over to the counter she nearly turned pale.
“What does it say?
“Ordered from the wizarding world in Paris by a Ms. Hermione Granger.”
”Makes perfect sense. I dreamed about this dress my whole life!”
The dress was the most beautiful thing she’d ever seen it was a spaghetti strap very slinky very clingy little piece with a corset like back and a fish tail bottom falling over her tiny feet but it was still missing something. Underneath the dress she found some red and white ribbon and a snake broach. She tried on the dress and Ginny undid the laces in the back replacing them with the ribbons taking the excess and made a bow in front pinning the broach in the center of the knot. Scanning the box once more she found a pair of lace up patent leather six inch stilettos once on she felt like a Goddess.
The guests chattered amongst themselves until the music began and Hermione appeared at the end of the isle all eyes were on her as she made her graceful way down to her soon to be legal husband. With tears welling he lifted the veil he refused to look at anything else this was his world. After the swapping of rings and kisses the guests piled into the reception area merrily having a good time not noticing the black figures in the shadows.
