Classes

Harry, Hermione and Ron woke up the next morning, got dressed and headed down towards the Great hall for breakfast.
“Wonder what we have today?” Ron asked pulling his bowl of cereal towards him.
“Well, we’ll find out soon, Professor Lupin’s handing out timetables,” Hermione said looking up the table at professor Lupin who was handing out some time tables to some fourth year Gryffindors.
A few minutes later, Professor Lupin reached them.
“Hello, you three. How are you today? Lupin asked, lookin through the bundle of schedules in his hand, for their timetables.
“Fine,” they replied
“That’s good,” he said putting their timetables down on the table and carrying on.
“I don’t believe this!” Ron exclaimed shocked “Double Defense Against the Dar Arts, first thing. We’re screwed.”
“Well we also have Transfiguration and Potions today,” Harry pointed out trying to lighten the situation
“And Charms and I have Ancient Runes” Hermione said skimming her timetable
‘Which means that we have either, Care of Magical Creatures or a spare” Harry said
“Care of Magical Creatures” Ron said looking up from his time table.
“Well let’s go and get our stuff, I don’t want to have Snape mad at us because we’re late for the first class of the year.” Hermione said
Just as they were getting up to leave, the owls with the morning post, came into the Great Hall. Neither Hedwig nor Hector was one of them, Just Pigwidgeon, with The Daily Prophet.
“Pig, get down here!” Ron shouted at the little owl, which was doing little loops in the air. “Of all the owls in the world I could’ve gotten, I had to get the one who want to be in the circus.” Harry and Hermione laughed as Pig dropped the paper or Rons’ head. “And also has a problem with dropping mail into my outstretched hands” Ron said dropping his hand which was in the air ready to catch the paper. After picking up the paper, they left the Great Hall. When they reached the Gryffindor Common room, they went up to their dormitories and collected their school bags.
“Come on, we have only about ten minutes before Defense Against the Dark Arts class starts.” Hermione said over her shoulder heading out the portrait hole.

Ten minutes later they were in their desks enduring the cold gaze of Professor Snape.
“As I am sure you are all aware, you’re in your N.E.W.T.s year.” Snape said coolly. “ I’m surprised to see that so many of you actually passed into this class and will be even more surprised if more than a quarter of this class manages to keep up with the work load.”
“Poor Neville,” Hermione whispered. “He had to deal with Snape for the first six years in Potions, and now in Dark Arts.”
“Now I was informed, that last year you started with non-verbal spell. A crucial element for witches and wizards alike, when in battling with another. Now break into pairs and practice non-verbal spells.” Snape spat, putting much emphasis on non-verbal.
“I’ll go with Neville, with Snape around; Merlin knows he’ll need all the help he can get.” Hermione whispered and headed off towards Neville.
“Come on Ron; let’s go find a place in the class room.
Ron and Harry found a spot by the wall and stood a few feet apart.
“Okay Ron,” Harry said raising his wand as Ron did the same. “I’ll try to jinx you and you try to protect your self with a shield charm.”
‘Why do I have to be the one to be jinxed?” Ron asked
“Don’t worry, knowing me I’m not going to be jinxing you,” Harry informed him laughing.
Unfortunately for Ron, after twenty minutes of trying to hit Ron with a jinx, he managed to hit him with the Jelly-legs curse. Ron being taken by surprise hadn’t even tried to produce a shield charm. Ron mumbled the counter-curse and approached Harry.
“And I thought you said you wouldn’t succeed? Now you’re getting jinxed,” Ron said.
“All right Ron, but you can’t perform non-verbal spells…yet” Harry said laughing
“Thanks for the support mate,” Ron grumbled.
Ron went back to where he was standing, and hoped that he would be able to prove Harry wrong. For the next twenty minutes, Ron attempted to perform a non-verbal spell and show Harry that he could. Though by the time Snape told them to pack up, with five minutes of class left, he hadn’t succeeded.
“What did I tell ya, you couldn’t do it.” Harry laughed slapping him on the back.

“What class do we have next?” Ron asked Hermione as they left the classroom five minutes later.
“Potions, Transfiguration, Lunch, Charms, and spare,” Harry answered
‘Wow Hermione, I didn’t know you changed your looks to be Harry’s twin,” Ron said sarcastically.
Hermione rolled her eyes and kept walking while Ron laughed at his own joke.
Ten minutes later all three of them were sitting in Potions. The classroom was brightly lit and warm, no longer dark and cold like it was when Snape taught the class. Snape’s impression had packed its bags and moved to a different room.
“Hurry up and take you seats,” Professor Hawthorn said coming into the room. “My name is Professor Harlan Hawthorn; I will be your potions teacher this year. Now before we begin, I’d like to collect the essay that were assigned to you at the end of last year.” he said
Every one pulled out their essays, put them on his desk and returned to their seats.
“Okay, now you guys are all in your seventh and final year. The workload this year will not be light, nor will it be easy. So hard work, lots of effort will be necessary. We will be reviewing things you’ve learned in previous years and some new potions.”
Hermione’s hand shot into the air.
‘Yes…err…Miss…” Hawthorn said
‘Hermione Granger.” She told him. “What are some of the potions we will be making this year?”
“Very, very complex one, that’s why you’re making them in your seventh year, we will soon be starting with Felix Felicis, the luck potion. This potion takes six months to brew, so we will be starting it with in the next two weeks. Now for today, before we start with that potion we need to learn more about it, and go over how it is made. So if you will take out some parchment and copy down the notes I have placed on the board please.” Professor Hawthorn instructed.

A little more than an hour later they were walking through the hall of Hogwarts again heading to their next class.
“Felix Felicis!” Ron exclaimed as they passed a group of fourth years going in the other direction. “That should be one interesting potion to make.”
“Yeah it will, if you make it properly,” Hermione teased. “Now come on before we’re late for transfiguration, with a new teacher, I’d like to make a good impression and not be late.”
They entered the familiar classroom and took their seats. The class started off similar to how it did in potions, with Professor Brackshaw, like Professor Hawthorn, taking in the essay that had been assigned before summer break. Like the previous classes they had to sit through another little lecture about their N.E.W.T.s
“As your other teachers may have already told you, the workload will be much, much heavier and harder than your pervious years.” She said. “Now for today, we’ll be talking mostly about what we will be covering this year.”
“I’m so exhausted,” Hermione said sitting down with Ron, Harry, and Ginny at the Gryffindor table about an hour later. “No slacking this year guys. This year is very important.
“We know Hermione, gosh” Ron said
‘What about Quidditch?” Harry asked
‘If you stay organized, you’ll be able to do your homework and studying without it interfering with Quidditch.” Hermione said sternly
“Speaking of Quidditch, there are already some people who have put their names down for tryouts, I suggest setting up a date soon.” McGonagall said coming up behind him placing a piece of parchment in front of Harry.
“Thanks, Professor” Harry said picking up the paper.
“Good luck Potter,” she said and turned to return to the professors table.
‘So when are you holding try outs?” Ginny asked interested
“Err…I’m not sure, but I’ll try to get a notice up on the notice board by tomorrow afternoon.” Harry said getting up with the rest

The rest of the day went smoothly. During fifth block Harry and Ron went to the common room to start on the homework that had already been assigned, while Hermione went to Ancient Runes.
“So what homework have you guys completed so far?” Hermione asked heading up to Gryffindor tower after dinner.
“None” Harry said “We didn’t finish any, but we worked on them.”
They approached the portrait of the Fat Lady, “Mandrake Root” Harry said. The portrait swung open and the three of them went inside.
“Well I’m going to bed,” Ginny said heading towards the girls dormitories.
‘I’m going too,” Hermione said. “Good night, Harry,” she kissed him and followed Ginny.
“I think I’ll turn in too. What about you Harry?” Ron asked
‘Ya one minute,” Harry said
He reached into his school bag and pulled out a piece parchment, a quill, and ink. Laying the parchment on the table he wrote:

Quidditch Try Outs
Saturday, September 6, 3:30 PM
Players needed: 3 chasers
2 beaters

Harry pinned it to the notice board and went upstairs to the boy’s dormitory.
