After the Break

*

Draco returned from Christmas Break a little happier than he'd been when he left. His parents had managed to show up for a few hours on Christmas before jet setting off the Paris again.

Lucy had smiled consolingly and whispered as she hugged him good bye that she would try to work her magic. He laughed when she said this but secretly hoped it would work.

He arrived back in the dorm shortly after New Years. Harry was there, of course, but Draco didn't feel in the mood to do anything. He dumped his stuff on the bed and went to take a shower. Harry listened to the water and thought about what he was going to do. He didn't know exactly how to go about it. What if Draco didn't feel the same, or what if he did but wouldn't admit it?

Draco gave Harry no opportunities to try anything over the next few weeks. Instead, it seemed as though he was distancing himself from Harry. He even stopped insulting Ron and avoided them both completely. Harry didn't know what was going on.

"You think something happened over break?" Harry asked Ron one day when they were in the library. Ron craned his neck around Harry to look where Draco was sitting, his nose buried deep inside a book.

"I dunno, he's been acting weird," he said. Harry nodded, watching as Draco picked up his pen to write something down. He looked up and caught Harry and Ron staring at him. They quickly looked away and bent over their homework.

Harry could feel Draco's piercing silver gaze on him for a while after that and didn't dare look up.

"Do you think it's me?" Harry whispered quietly, still pretending to do his worksheet. Ron gave him a disbelieving look.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" he asked.

Harry shrugged. "What else could it be?" He chanced a glance up and at Draco. He was now absorbed in his work once more and Harry let out a quiet sigh of relief. Ron just shook his head and rolled his eyes.

As Harry watched, he saw a boy from his English class walk up to Draco. He couldn't hear what was being said but Draco smirked at the boy and, moments later, stuffed his books back into his bag and left the library after the boy.

Harry scowled and felt his blood boiling. Since they had returned, Draco had slept with many other guys, and Harry felt a pang every time. He just wanted Draco to himself now. Every time he saw him with someone else, he just had a sudden urge to smash something.

Draco hadn't fucked Harry since they had been back either. He didn't make any moves when they were alone, instead just lying on his bed or doing homework. Harry was desperately missing his touch, wondering when things were going to go back to normal. He knew he should just do something about it but he felt he wanted to wait just a bit longer and maybe try to figure out what was going on.

Unfortunately, Harry wasn't known for his patience or temper. One night, a few weeks after the break ended, he was already in a bad mood because he'd failed his Chemistry test. He stormed into the dorm in a rage. He threw his books on the bed and heard a scoffing laugh from the other bed. Harry whirled around and glared at Draco. Draco was sitting on his bed reading a book. Harry was in no mood for anything Draco had to throw at him at the moment.

"What the hell are you laughing at, Malfoy?" Harry spat viciously. Draco put down his book and raised an eyebrow.

"That's really none of your business, Potter," Draco drawled maliciously. This enraged Harry. They hadn't talked in such a long time, and now all they were doing was arguing.

"Fine, then what is my business?" Harry asked in annoyance.

"Nothing is your business, Potter, so leave me the fuck alone," Draco said in a dangerously low voice. Harry narrowed his eyes. No way was he going to back down from this.

"I don't think so, Malfoy. We haven't talked since you got back, what the hell is going on?!"

Draco laughed derisively. "Have you forgotten our rules, Potter?" he drawled dangerously.

Harry scowled. "No," he said condescendingly, highly affronted that Draco would suggest that.

"Then you know damn well that we. don't. talk." Draco took a deep breath and went back to reading his book. Harry stared at him.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?!" he exclaimed. Draco put down the book again and looked as though he was trying to control his temper.

"Potter, unless you want me to break your perfect face, I suggest you stop talking now."

Harry was taken aback, 'perfect face'? Draco didn't appear to notice what he'd said.

"Wait, what?" Harry asked. Draco closed his eyes as though praying for patience.

"Is there a reason you insist on being the bane of my existence, Potter?" Draco drawled. Harry scowled at him.

"Yes, because that is my ultimate goal in life," Harry said sarcastically. Draco took his turn to sneer at him. Harry couldn't take this much longer.

"I'm sure it is," Draco drawled condescendingly. Harry rolled his eyes in frustration.

"Can't you just be normal once in awhile?" Harry asked in annoyance. Draco scoffed.

"And what is normal? You, whose relatives don't give a shit, or me, who's parents wouldn't care less if I died?" Draco sneered at Harry. Harry didn't even register what he'd just said. If he'd been thinking straight, he might have noticed the dejected tone of Draco's voice. Instead, he crossed the room and stood directly in front of Draco. Draco raised an eyebrow at him.

Harry stood with his hands on his hips, glaring down at Draco, deciding what to do. Before he'd stopped to think it through, he reached out and dragged Draco to his lips. Draco's eyes were wide with shock as their lips met in a fierce kiss. Draco involuntarily gasped when Harry's tongue ran over his bottom lips. Harry took advantage of the open lips and thrust his tongue inside. Draco moaned slightly, fighting with his body to control himself.

'I can't let this happen, then he'll know...' Draco struggled to break the kiss. He finally managed it and backed away from Harry, a shocked and horrified look on his face.

"What the hell was that, Potter?!" he yelled. Harry scoffed.

"I would think you would know a kiss," Harry drawled. Draco's expression became murderous.

"Why did you do it?" Draco asked through gritted teeth. Harry could immediately tell that Draco was beyond furious. He hadn't expected him to react this badly.

"Because I wanted to," Harry stated firmly, matching Draco's anger.

"Well, I bloody well didn't!" Draco exclaimed, backing further away from Harry. Harry furrowed his eyebrows. He knew Draco was adamant about his no kissing rule, but he didn't think he would take it so far. Harry decided to take a different path.

"You can't deny you didn't like it," he said suggestively.

"I can, and I will!" Draco yelled then realized what he'd said. "Wait..." Harry smirked and this only made Draco angrier. "Leave me the hell alone, Potter," he threatened. Harry rolled his eyes.

"Never," he said simply, and Draco sneered at him.

"If you know what's good for you, you'd get out of it now."

"Why?" Harry asked, all too innocently.

"Because you don't understand!"

"Understand what?"

"Just stop! Okay! Leave me the hell alone!"

"But why?"

"Why are you so infuriating?!"

"It's in my nature?"

"No, it's because you are the most annoying, self-centered person I have ever met!"

"You mean, besides yourself?"

"AAARGH!" Draco screamed in frustration.

Before Harry had time to prepare himself, Draco's fist landed directly in his face. He was taken aback at first. Draco may have been small, but he packed a punch. It only took Harry five seconds to realize what had happened. Before he knew it, they were rolling around on the floor, punches flying everywhere.

The door opened somewhere above them and a shout was heard.

"Oy! What are you doing?!" Ron had come in and was gaping at the spectacle on the floor. They paid him no mind, however, and continued punching and kicking. Ron got over his shock and jumped in the middle to pull Harry out. Harry was heaved to his feet by Ron, and he stood panting, wiping blood from his nose. Draco stood up a little more dignified and straightened his shirt before gingerly touching his eye.

"What is going on?" Ron asked again, a little more calmly. The two boys glared at each other, neither willing to admit why they were fighting, neither actually really knowing why. Ron looked to Harry for the answer.

Harry scoffed. "Why don't you ask him," he said acidly, indicating Draco. Draco's eyes narrowed when Ron's confused face turned to look at him.

"I don't know what you are talking about, Potter," he said loftily. Draco turned away and examined himself in the mirror. He had a nice black eye beginning to surface.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about! You started it!"

"Oh, I most certainly did not!" Draco retorted, turning back to Harry and away from the mirror. Ron looked between to the seething boys and had yet to comprehend the situation.

"Wait, what happened?" he asked, confused. Draco sneered at him but didn't reply. Harry was too busy glaring at Draco to register the question.

Ron looked between the two once more. Neither seemed inclined to answer but he wanted to know why they had been up to their elbows in punches just a minute ago. Surely it had to have been about something.

"What happened?" he asked again, more pressingly this time.

"Nothing happened," Harry growled through gritted teeth, his eyes fixed on Draco. Draco glared back haughtily, refusing to give in.

"Well, as fun as this was," he drawled, "I have better things to do than listen to two jumped up lunatics." With that, Draco swept from the room and slammed the door behind him.

Harry stared at the door with an expression of utmost revulsion. Ron was watching Harry now, still lost on everything that had just happened.

"Harry, what just happened?" Ron tried to clarify. Harry huffed and, instead of answering Ron, chose to storm out of the room without another word. Ron sighed dejectedly and left the room also.
