The Potion That Spelled Disaster (1/2)
Authors: connconnell@yahoo.com and bewize@yahoo.com
\"Some day, my prince will come...\" Ana sang the old Disney song to
herself as she mixed a potion. It was one she had recently read about
in a book, a special incense type potion to use during love making,
as it eases the mind so you can be more focused.
She added the ingrediants and watched it begin to bubble. Busteastead
of turning a deep blue, it was turning a putrid green. \"Uhoh...\" Ana
cringed. The potion began bubbling violently and ducked behind a
student desk. BOOOOM! the cauldron exploded, setting the desk on
fire. Severus\' desk! \"OH SHIT!\" she shrieked, pulling out her wand.
In the hallway, Severus was returning from a trip to the greenhouse,
where he\'d been refreshing some of his herbs. He heard a horrible
explosion coming from his office, quickly followed by the voice of
the one person he was most worried he\'d lose.
Frantic, he started running towards the dungeon classroom and heaved
the door open. Inside, he was greeted by flames on his desk and Ana
frantically trying to put them out before they spread.
Finally Ana got them out, coughing from the smoke, visibly shaking, a
hand over her chest.
Severus dropped his herbs, adding to the clutter of his now
demolished office and leaped over something that resembled a student
. Th. There were scrolls scattered everywhere, along with the
remnants of what appeared to be something slimy.
\"Ana- my God- are you alright?\" He seized her and began to scan
anxiously, looking for injuries. Ana nodded, still coughing and
trying to catch her breath. \"I think so. Shit, your
desk!\"
Impatiently, Severus didn\'t even glance at the desk. \"Forget it-
take deep breaths. What happened? What is that foul odor? Were you
mixing anything dangerous to breath?\" Even as he fired questions, he
took out his own wand and waved it muttering a spell that started
airing the room out.
She kept wheezing as she tried to take deep breaths, still shaking in
his arms. \"Incense type potion. Helps clear your mind
for focus on love making.\"
Severus stilled. He closed his eyes and crushed Ana closer to his
chest. \"Are you telling me, that you tried to make a potion to make
our love making better, and instead blew up my office and nearly got
yourself killed?\" His voice was incredulous and was rising in volume
as he spoke.
\"Yes,\" Ana squeaked, his cloak nearly burying her face in a wave of
black. \"Thought we might, enjoy it. And I hide, when the
potion was funky.\" \"Thank god for small favors.\" He pushed her back
and shook her. \"YOU COULD HAVE KILLED YOURSELF!\" He let go of her
arms, visibly trying to calm himself. Ana wasn\'t the only one
shaking.
Ana\'s eyes widened. Had he really shook her? She took a few steps
back, the color slowly draining from her face, shaking even harder
now. \"I... I....\" she gave another cough and closed her mouth,
waiting to see what he\'d do.
\"Ana, oh my dear Ana. I can barely imagine what I would have done
had something happened to you. Well? Do you want to say anything?
Why didn\'t you wait for me to help you with the potion? If I
remember the one you\'re talking about- its very complicated.\"
\"The instructions were in the book,\" she whispered, taking another
step back. He had really scared her by shaking her. \"I didn\'t think I
was quite that dense when it came to potions. I guess I put in too
much dandelion root. I\'m so sorry, I think I\'m ok.\"
Severus recognized the fear in her eyes and cursed himself. As angry
as he was, he never wanted her to be scared of him. He sat down on
one of the few remaining chairs that was upright. \"Come here,
darling. Please. Just let me hold you for a minute. You scared me
ten years closer to death.\"
Ana hesitated for a moment, then slowly walked towards him. She
hadn\'t realized how close to death she had been and that thought made
her mind reel. \"I\'m so sorry,\" she whimpered as she got closer. He
pulled her on his lap and held her there, taking comfort from her
presence as much as he was trying to offer it.
Finally, her shaking eased and then his own lessened. \"Please don\'t
ever do anything like that again.\" He whispered into her
robe. \"Promise me.\" \"I promise. I\'m so sorry I scared you
Severus.... I was more worried about your desk then me...\" Ana
admitted slowly. She cursed herself as she coughed into his robe
again, the last time.
For the first time, he really looked at the remnants of his desk.
There was a large hole blasted into the middle of it. His scrolls
were gone and he saw what seemed to be the shell of the potion book
Ana was using. Severus pointed to it. \"Do you realize that thcoulcould have been you? I don\'t give a damn about the desk! I don\'t
know how I would cope if something had happened to you, though!\"
Ana hung her head, not sure what to say. It was rare for Severus to
get so emotional this way, and it surprised her each time he did. \"I
don\'t know what you would have done, but I love you,\" she whispered,
still curled up in his arms.
\"I love you, too.\" Severus was still shaken by how close he\'d come
to losing her and determined that she would remember to be careful
from now on. He set her on her feet and turned her to face him.
\"I want you to go to our room. Wait in the corner for me to clean
this up. I\'ll be there in a minute and we\'ll discuss the relative
importance of you versus my desk. And of rudimentary potion
safety.\" He stood and kissed her cheek, then gently steered her
towards the door.
\"Do I have to be bare?\" she turned around and whispered, biting her
lip. Ana hated that most, being bare AND in the corner. Made her
feel like she was five years old. Snape looked at her, raising his
eyebrow. \"I\'ll leave that to your judgment, Ana.\" Then he turned
and walked towards the remains of his desk, determined to salvage
what he could.
Ana sighed and walked to their room. As if THAT answer had helped.
She went to the corner and kicked the wall with her foot, then winced
and hopped for a moment. She decided to make a compromise and took of
her capris, and stood in the corner in her panties and Hello Kitty t-
shirt.
Snape swept his wand around the room and most of the destruction was
swept into a pile. It took him only a few minutes and he was willing
to leave the desk until a time when he was calmer. Looking at it
only reminded him of what he almost lost, and it made him angry that
Ana had taken such chances. Worried about the damn desk!
Ana waited nervously, biting her lip srd trd that she began to taste
blood. She shifted from foot to foot, her creamy white legs bare and
getting goose-bumps from the chill of the dungeon. She thought about
how he had shook her and how mad Severus had looked and shuddered.
He pushed the door open and saw her in the corner, looking adorable
and vulnerable. He was amused that she hadn\'t chosen to wait bare.
He\'d figured she would, just to appease him.
As he watched for a second, he could tell that she was overly tense
and figured that she was still highly strung from the accident. He
walked over and turned her around gently, astonished that she was
biting her lip so hard.
Severus gently touched her cheek and said, \"I\'m so sorry that I
scared you this bad. But, my darling Ana, are you reaso aso afraid
that I\'ll hurt you that you have to hurt yourself to keep from
crying?\"
\"I don\'t want to talk about it please,\" Ana whispered, trying to wipe
away the blood. \"I\'m sorry Severus, I\'m so sorry.\" It was clear in
her eyes, the shone brightly with tears, that there was something she
wasn\'t telling him.
\"Trust me, little one. And please let me in. Tell me whatgoingoing
on. Please.\" He was growing more and more distressed. Ana shook her
head no, rather frantically. \"It isn\'t important,\" she
whispered. \"I\'m just really sorry.\" \"I am too, my love, because I\'m
not continuing with anything until I\'m satsfied you\'re okay. And I\'m
not right now.\"
Her face crumpled for a moment and a violent shudder swept through
her. \"Please Severus, please'm o'm ok, I promise!\" she pleaded. \"And
I\'m cold,\" she added with a pout. Severus chuckled lightly. \"I still
don\'t beleive you, but since I\'m not continuing until I do, feel free
to put your robe back on. I don\'t want you to freeze, afterall.\" He
hesitated. \"I\'m really not a monster, and I\'m saddened that you are
afraid of me and won\'t talk about it.\"
\"It\'s a long story,\" she whispered. \"And I don\'t want to think about
it honey. It... just....\" she grabbed her fuzzy blue robe and curled
up in it, then returned to the corner, not sure if she was allowed to
sit, while she could still sit that was.
\"If you\'re sure that you don\'t want to talk about it, and I know I\'m
not going any further until I know you\'re okay, then I guess we\'re
stopping for now.\" He was trying to hid how hurt he was. Ana had
managed not to die in the accident earlier, but he was afraid he was
going to lose her anyway.
\"Some day, my prince will come...\" Ana sang the old Disney song to
