Chapter 7: Revelations
Ginny looked from one twin to the other. This was bad. She could tell that they were seriously thinking of hexing Draco. She could see the wheels turning behind their eyes.
\"Fred, George. Why didn\'t you tell me you were coming?\" Ginny said running up and giving each of her twin brothers a hug. \"I would have invited you to watch the dueling club meeting tonight. Tell me where has Minerva placed you tonight?\" Ginny knew she was babbling but she had to get their attention on something other than Draco otherwise she would never know where events like tonight might go.
\"Gin, its all right. I\'ll see you at breakfast ok?\" Draco said looking into her eyes and she hoped he saw the concern that shimmered there when she mutely nodded. He smiled and kissed her lightly on the forehead. She wondered how he knew that her overprotective brothers wouldn\'t stand for more. \"Gentlemen, why don\'t we retire to my quarters? I believe we have a few things to discuss.\"
She watched as Draco turned swirling his robes about him \"a la Snape\" and began to lead the way down to the dungeons that were now his. He didn\'t look back to see if the two redheads followed. After giving her identical looks telling her that the discussion wasn\'t over, trudged after the blonde Slytherin. Ginny watched until they turned a corner and were out of sight.
Ginny sighed and went into her sitting room and sat in front of her fire. It was going to be a long, long night. Ginny decided that she should try to make the best of it while she waited for Draco and her brothers to decide if they were going to kill each other.
Ginny thought back again to that kiss. She had wondered what it was all about and later she wondered if he thought about it too.

When they got to the dungeons instead of taking the twins to his rooms he took them to his office. This wasn’t a social call and he was going to control the situation, even if it was only for show or his own pride. Draco sat behind his desk and gestured for Fred and George to sit opposite him. Draco turned collected three tumblers and a bottle of Glenfiddich forty-year-old Scotch; sometimes it was good to be a Malfoy. Putting the glasses on his desk Draco held up the bottle and cocked an eyebrow. At a nod from Fred and George he poured the rare single malt andded ded over the Baccarat crystal tumblers. After they took a healthy sip their faces set in disapproving lines, at that moment Draco wished that he knew which twin was which.
“Nice scotch, Malfoy. Now, let’s get to business. What were you doing touching our sister?” It was disconcerting for Draco not to know who was addressing him.
“Are you looking to add another notch to your bed post?”
Draco had enough and violently stood up. He ran his hands through his hair and looked at the two men in front of him with sad, wild eyes. “Damn it. Don’t you think, that if that was what I wanted I could have had it when we were in school? You both were in the Order. You know what I was then, what would have happened if I got involved with Ginny then.” Tearing his eyes away from thempacepaced as he began his story.
“Just before coming to school my seventh year I got the Dark Mark and attended my first Dark Revel, it made me sick. So sick that I went directly to Dumbledor as soon as I could. One day later in the term, I don’t even know why I did it, I was in one of the alcoves in the charms hallway and she was walking toward me. Merlin, she was beautiful. I snatched her into the alcove with me and backed her up to the wall. She looked at me with not an ounce of fear, it was like she was looking into my soul and could see everything I had done. She tipped her head up just a fraction and I took it for an invitation and I kissed her. That kiss was the beginning of my redemption. Her kiss was the one thing that kept me going, kept me spying for Albus, kept me at Snape’s side as his protégé. The one bight thing that kept me from killing myself when the guilt and the pain were just too much.
“I couldn’t allow any attention to come to her. Crabbe and Goyle would have said something, if not to Voldemort, to my father. To bring Ginny to a revel would have been a triumph. To break, one again, the youngest Weasly. Voldemort still spoke of her all that year. Her purity, her innocence he wanted her but even he dared not touch her. Snape and I made sure of that. So, I left her alone but for that kiss. I didn’t look at her and never spoke to her. I looked out for her though from then on. Snape and Albus knew how I felt. They were the only ones who ever knew.”
Draco sat down heavily and waited; waited for the demands. After a moment he looked up and met the eyes of the two men in front of him and instead of seeing the recriminations he expected he saw understanding and respect.
“Malfoy just know this–”
“If you hurt Ginny–”
“We will personally make your life hell.”
With that treat and implied permission Fred and George Weasley rose and left his office. Draco rose heavily took himself to his rooms and settled himself in front of the fire with a bottle of Old Odgen’s Firewhiskey, which tasted like rotgut after the smooth elegance of the Glenfiddich. He wanted to forget to wash away the pain in alcohol but he began to think about Ginny instead.
He hadn\'t seen Ginny in ten years until he saw her in Diagon Alley and heard her talking to Hermione Krum. When he found out she was going to be teaching at Hogwarts his heart lifted for a moment. Minerva had sent him an owl a few weeks before offering him Snape’s position as Potions Master. He was sure he was deluding himself into thinking that she would want anything to do with him. She had kissed him tonight though. He absently wondered where the evening would have gone if they had not been interrupted by the Terrible Twosome.
