Synopsis: This story takes place after my previous story “The Lion and The Serpent”. In this story Harry and Draco are on their way back to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when they are ambushed by Death Eaters, leaving Draco half dead. So distraught over Draco’s possible death Harry wishes he was never born . . . but will his wish actually come true?

“No Harry, I am not your mother.”

“Then who are you?” Harry said with increased confusion.

“I am one of the spirits who you will meet tonight.”

“Then why do you look like my mother?” Harry pressed.

“Our true forms are incomprehensible to humans, even wizards such as yourself. So we look inside of your subconscious and take the form we find most suitable in your mind.”

“So what do you want from me?” Harry asked as he gripped his wand in his pocket.

“Your magic can’t hurt me, but if your wand helps you feel safe, then by all means bring it with you” said the spirit with a coy smile.

“What do you mean bring it me? me? Where are we going?” Harry said, now rising out of bed.

“Our purpose with you, Harry Potter, is to show you the world around you as well the world you wished for. So take my hand and we may begin” said the spirit as she let out her hand towards Harry.

Harry looked at her for a moment, still not believing what was happening. If she was as real as she seemed than what Sirius told him was true. And if nothing else, Harry knew he could trust Sirius. He reached out his own hand and took the one offered to him. Expecting it to be cold, Harry was surprised once he felt its warmth, as if this spirit was as alive as Harry himself. In the blink of an eye, the world around Harry became nothing more the mist. It swirled around them like a cyclone but there was no wind. After a few moments of silence, Harry found himself in a large round room. Its roof was cone shape like a tower in a fairy tale, and as Harry looked around he realized he was in a nursery.

A baby’s cry broke the silence abruptly, making Harry jump in surprise. The spirit only smiled as she saw the look on Harry’s face, but before Harry could speak, someone else came into the room.

“What’s wrong Harry?” said Harry’s mother as she walked towards the crib.

Harry watched in awe as he saw his mother, his real mother, walk over to the crib and pick up the baby, which stopped crying immediately as Lily took him in her arms.

“How is this possible!?!” Harry whispered to the spirit beside him.

“You can talk as loud as you want Harry, they can’t see or hear us. These are only the shadows things that have already been, so we cannot interact with them but only watch” the spirit said as she motioned to Lily.

She was now sitting by the large window in an oak rocking chair, with the baby Harry still in her hands.

“You just wanted me to come and play with you didn’t you?” Lily said, smiling Harry.

The baby that was Harry laughed and smiled back at his mother, and as Harry watched them, Harry grew sad, since he could not remember this night, or ever being that content.

“You already love being the center of attention just like your father” Lily laughed as she kissed Harry’s forehead.

“What are we supposed be doing here?” Harry asked.

“Watch and learn Harry” the spirit replied, with the same sweetness in her voice as Harry’s mother.

Then out of the doorway came Harry’s father. He walked over to Lily and the baby, with a great smile on his face.

“Of coarse he loves being the center of attention, that’s were he belongs after all” James said as he took the baby into his own arms.

He bounced Harry lightly in his arms and kissed Harry on the head, which was already growing jet-black hair just like his father. The baby reached out with his little arms and grabJameJames’ face playfully, which made Lily and James laugh. As much as he tried, Harry couldn’t remember any of this, much to his disappointment. Lily and James played with the baby a bit more and afterwards put him back in the crib to get some sleep. The scene before them froze as Lily and James looked at their son in the crib. Everything became black and white as it froze and finally faded into nothingness, and that was where Harry was now: nothingness.

“So . . .” said the spirit with a loving smile on her face, “shall we move forward?”

Harry gave her no answer as he merely looked away. Before even a tear could escape Harry’s eyes, he found himself in another cyclone of clouds and mist, and then to his amazement he found himself outside a large beautiful house near what looked like a small forest. The night sky was cloudy, as if it had only just stopped raining. Suddenly, out of the forest behind the house, two figures came running towards the house with alarming speed. The spirit took Harry’s hand and instantly they now stood at the door of the just in time to see figures arrive.

“Lily, take Harry and go! It’s him! Go! Run! I’ll hold him off!”

The pain in his voice was obvious as well as the reluctant look on Lily’s face, but neither argued with he other.

“I love you!” Lily said as she kissed her husbands lips, and then quickly opened the door and ran inside.

Another dark figure suddenly came into eye sight from the forest: Voldemort. James tried to hold him off but it was no use. A greaash ash of green later and Harry’s father was flat on the ground; already dead. Once again the spirit took Harry’s hand and they were once again transported instantly, this time upstairs to the nursery. Lily was holding Harry in her arms but quickly placed him back in the crib as she realized, she was too late. Voldemort was in the doorway, watching her every move. With his wand in hand, he advanced upon Lily:

“Not Harry! Not Harry! Please – I’ll do anything . . .!”

“Stand aside. Stand aside, girl!”

Harry could hold himself back no longer! He drew his wand, ready to attack. Lily threw herself in front of her baby, blocking Voldemort’s incoming spell and Harry threw himself in front of her.

“EXPLILLIARMUS!!!” Harry yelled but the spell shot straight through Voldemort, as if he was only a ghost.

“AVEDA KEDAVRA!!!”

The spell went straight through Harry and hit Lily. Harry turned around and saw his mother fall to the floor, tears streaming down her face, but clearly, already dead. Voldemort advanced on the baby, who was wailing at the top of his lungs in the crib. With a great thrust, Voldemort struck the baby with the unforgivable curse, but of coarse it failed. In another great flash green light, the curse hit Harry, and for a moment it froze there over him, as if trying to wedge it self inside of the infants body.

The baby cried out in pain and a strange cut appeared suddenly on his forehead, which began to bleed. But, then with another wail from the crying child the spell rebounded upon Voldemort, in a great explosion. The house shook violently as it began to crumble and in what seemed like another instant, the spirit and Harry were now on the ground in the mitts of the crumbled house, with the baby crying on the ground.

Harry looked down at himself on ground, and then reached out to pick himself up, but this too did not happen. Everything became black and white once more and when the color returned to the world around Harry saw that he was now back in his dormitory. Tears began to streak down Harry’s face he crumbled to the floor.

“Why are you crying Harry?” asked the spirit.

“Because death follows me” Harry answered in what was almost a whisper.

“No Harry! You are the one who follows death! Just like all human beings do.”

“But anyone who ever gets close to me dies!” Harry announced arguably.

“You think of death as evil, and evil as death! That is a falsehood!” declared the spirit, as if she was declaring something that should have been obvious.

“You could have fooled me!” Harry spat angrily.

“What are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your destiny, Harry?”

Harry looked at her for moment, not knowing what to say.

“Would be willing to give your very life to achieve this goal?” pressed the spirit.

“Yes” Harry answered after a moment of silence.

The spirit gave Harry a loving smile when he answered and then said:

“At least that’s a start.”

“Draco . . . I love him! He doesn’t deserve to die! Is there anyway I can save him?” Harry asked, surprising himself at his question.

“Yes” the spirit answered with a reassuring smile.

But, before Harry had any chance to ask anything else, the spirit vanished. . .
