Chapter Six
Chapter Six
A month and a half before…
She had to get out of there. Hermione rammed her things into any bag she could find, reducing them in size, and pocketing them. She was nearly done packing when she felt the front door the #12 slam shut. He was back. She didn’t know how she was going to deal with him. It had been so different since…
She bit back a sob, telling herself that the tears would solve nothing. The child, their little baby that had been no bigger than a head of a pin had died. It felt as if the sun had gone cold that day. Siberia would have been warmer, she had thought. And yet she wasn’t the only one suffering. Hermione watched Sirius drinking and getting drunk, day after bloody day with no end in sight. Even now she could already smell the fire whiskey and he wasn’t even in the room yet!
The door slammed open and he strolled into the room. He paused and looked at him. “You’re still here?”
She swallowed thickly. “I was just packing. I’ll only be over at the Weasley’s for…”
“Stay for all I care!” he roared. “Stay! Better yet, send me back to the Veil!”
Temper flashed across her face as she charged up to him, slapping him soundly across his face. “Don’t you dare speak like that, Sirius! We are hurting and more than willing to take out that pain on each other by being total prats, but I will not have you spitting in the face of all that was done to save your sorry arse!”
“Then speak to me!” he roared to her, going to his knees and hugging her middle. “Stop pushing me away! Stop holding me out!” He sobbed against her. “Come back to me!”
Crying she hugged his head, rocking him back and forth, whispering, “I have things to fix. Please, I’m begging you, please be patient. I’ll see you every single day, I swear. But this has to be done.”
“Everyday?” he breathed.
“Everyday,” she assured him, combing his hair out of his face. “You smell like a distillery and you need a shave.” She rubbed her thumb over his scruffy cheek. “And when was the last time you had something to eat?”
“Don’t mother me,” he muttered, pulling away from her.
She felt the cold returning to her bones. “Try to eat something. I would hate think we did all that work only for you to drink yourself to death.” Hermione left the room, slamming the door shut, never seeing Sirius crumbling to the floor sobbing her name.
She arrived at the Weasleys a short time later. Molly immediately went into mother hen mode, cooing and feeding her. The moment the two women were alone, Hermione sobbed on her shoulder and spilt everything that had happened.
“My baby, my poor little baby…” she kept crying over and over again.
“I know it hurts, but you’re young and you have time to have others if it is your fate to have them. They are a gift, my dear, a gift that is so easily taken away. But you know that as well as I do.” She kept rocking Hermione as she kept silently crying. “Sirius Black is it? Well, it’s for the best. At the rate you were going with Ron you were more amp to kill each other than wed.”
“Speaking of that,” she said, sitting up straight. “I, uh, have a plan of sorts.”
“A plan for what?” Molly asked her.
“To break up with Ron.”
“Why do you need to plan for that?” Molly asked confused. “Just break up with him.”
“I would, but he is so stubborn and contrary that if I just say we need to break up he would stay with me just to prove me wrong.”
His mother thought it over and ended up nodding in agreement. “So what is the plan?”

Present day…
Sirius sat quietly drinking tea as the twins told them at length about their plans for a new WWW product. When they had arrived to the house, Molly had just left to go shopping with Ginny and wouldn’t be back until later. They had offered them tea and a chat, but Sirius told them he would be making the brew.
“They do not trust us, brother,” Fred said to George.
“It is a sad day indeed,” he said, wiping away a mock tear.
“Yes, your holiness, I trust you, but we cannot take a chance with the little one just starting to grow in her,” Sirius told them.
“Little one?” they said together. “You’re…” She nodded. “Please tell us that Ron isn’t the father.”
“Ron isn’t the father,” she said with a smile.
“I’d kill him if he tried,” Sirius was heard muttering from the kitchen.
They looked over to her in shock. “He has gotten so much better about that too. He hasn’t threaten to rip any man apart in weeks for looking at me twice.” This was said so dryly that it had Sirius laughing as he handed her the tea and kissing her hard on the mouth.
“Thank Merlin you are with child, woman, least your ass would be red right now.”
She was silent for a moment and replied, “Uh, Sirius, I like that.”
“True, my sweet witch, but whose to say I would let you enjoy it?”
She pouted playfully and was about to respond when Molly entered the house with Ginny. Hermione stood up and went over to Mrs. Weasley.
“I’m pregnant,” she told her.
“Oh!” Molly crowed with joy, hugging her tightly at the news. “How are you? Are you well? Is everything okay? Sit! Sit!”
“We came here first to give you the good news,” Sirius said to them, absently rubbing Hermione’s back as he spoke. “We flooed Poppy and she gave us the name of a very good medi-witch who specializes in difficult pregnancies.”
“That’s wonderful news!” Molly now was narrowing her eyes on Sirius. “When are you going to marry her?”
“Albus is going to perform the ceremony tomorrow, which is the other reason why we are here,” Hermione said as she moved closer to her lover. “Sirius, I need…”
He stood her up and the two of them went over to the restroom. He stepped out by himself, smiling as he did so. “Molly, my sweet, we must be off. We will floo later.”
“Where is Hermione?” Fred asked, looking into the room behind the older wizard.
Sirius smile went wider as he murmured, “She’s always with me.” And left it at that.
