chapter 6
Damien looked around the kitchen, watching Molly and Ginny make pies on the counter, talking with his uncle over their shoulders. He chewed slowly on the cookie while taking everything in. The kitchen was almost as big as his and his mommy’s apartment, and he knew he’d just get lost in the big house.
“The room next to Severus is best. In a couple of days you’ll be in the basement, so he needs someone nearby to take care of him if he wakes.”
“I’ll bring his things up there in a little while. Severus should be just about finished with the letter Ri sent him.” Remus closed his eyes. He had to get over it. Rihanna slept with Severus, had his child and was dying right now on an entirely different continent. “Hermione went to get him. I thought she’d be the person he’d least likely yell at since taking her on as his assistant.”
“Then you haven’t been around here much, because those two fight more than cats and dogs.” Ginny muttered while filling the pie pan with the cut apples. The basement potions lab was sound-proofed thank goodness, but up and down the first and second floors the two of them could be heard arguing about nothing and everything. They fought more than her mum and dad and those two were known to go for days in their arguments at the Burrow. And her father slept on the couch at least two nights out of the month, still.
“They’re not that bad, Ginny. Make sure you sprinkle the sugar over those apple slices, or it’ll end up sour. Good job, dearie.” Molly admonished lightly. She had her suspicions about the spy and her son’s friend, but she wasn’t saying anything unless she thought it became inappropriate. Hermione was an adult and more mature than most of the older Order members she knew. She turned as the girl walked in, followed a minute later by Severus. Damien sat up straighter and smiled shyly at his father. Swallowing audibly, Severus sat next to his son, a serious look on his face. Hermione stood behind Remus urging her lover on.
“I apologize for my rudeness earlier when I first met you, Damien. Your appearance is a surprise to me. How are you?”
“Tired. Can I go take my nap now?” Damien yawned. He usually took a short nap in the afternoon and the time change was already wrecking havoc with his internal rhythm. He blinked down at his milk, only half an inch left in his glass, and his half eaten cookie.
“Let’s go upstairs and find your bedroom, then, Damien.” Remus stood, offering his hand to his nephew. Damien drew closer to Severus, grabbing his arm possessively.
“I want my daddy to do it. Please, Unca?”
Remus tried to hide the hurt in his eyes as the boy bonded faster with Severus than he had with his own uncle over a two day period. But the boy wanted a father, and with his mother dying, he needed that stability. Severus noticed though and decided to offer an olive leaf, of sorts.
“Come along then, your uncle can bring your things up and help organize your room before you sleep.” Severus stood and waited for the boy. Damien went next to him and lifted his hand up, wanting to hold his father’s. Hermione snorted with laughter at the awkward look passing over his face as he let his son hold his hand.
“This is going to be interesting around here.” Hermione shook her head as the three males left the kitchen and trod up the old staircase. She returned to helping the Weasley women make the desserts for their dinner tonight, smiling at the thought of seeing her lover suddenly take on fatherly responsibilities.
The first three days with the boy around were quite uneventful. He spent most of his day with Remus since Severus was working in the lab with Hermione most of the time. He did sit with the boy during meals and even read to him one night, the night before the full moon when Remus was confined to the basement. Hermione kept to her own rooms in case Damien needed his father. They didn’t want to have to explain not only to the boy but also to Remus why the young woman was lying in the potion master’s bed.

a/n~~ Like I said in the last update of 'Hermione's...." I'm suffering from a bit of writers block...going to take a day or two, spend with kids and unwind, get some inspiration too LOL. i'm not abandoning anything, just need some time away from the writing, and only a little while.
thanks for the reviews, y'all, i'm trying to keep the sev/hermione relationship in and not make the story too long either. this chap is short, but the others should be longer.
