Chapter 5 June 8, 2006 7:30 a.m.
Harry had woken early with a splitting headache. He dragged himself down to the kitchen and made breakfast for Draco and Severus. He left two plates of sausage, eggs, and toast on the counter under a warming charm.
He also left a note next to the plates:
Severus and Draco,
I am not feeling very well. I have decided to go back to bed for a while. The lab equipment should be arriving before noon. If you need me I will be in my room. I’ll try to make your lunch around noon.
Harry
And with that done, he crawled back into his bed.
June 8, 2006 9:00 a.m.
Severus woke well rested for the first time in six years. He smiled as he looked at Draco. The blonde was curled up against his chest, one hand splayed over the older man’s heart. This was what he had missed most, waking curled up next to his blonde love. He stared at Draco for a few minutes until the blonde woke up.
Draco yawned and smiled up at Severus, “Morning.”
Severus smiled gently, “Good morning, tesoro.”
Draco leaned up and kissed Severus quickly on the lips before rolling out of the bed and getting dressed. “So what’s your move on Potter going to be?”
Severus watched Draco dress with a hungry look in his eyes. He was still far too weak to consider making love to the blonde, but he could certainly appreciate the man’s body. Severus stood and started dressing as well. “I’m not certain yet. I’ll wait to see how he reacts to you today.”
Draco smiled. “Makes sense. I wonder if he’s up yet.”
“Most likely.” Severus held out his hand and, when Draco took it, the two men went to the kitchen.
Draco sniffed the air inside the kitchen, “Smells good.” He looked at the plates and saw the note next to it. He picked up the scrap of parchment, glanced at it quickly, and handed it to Severus. Draco took out two forks, a knife, and the butter dish. He pulled up one of the bar stools and started buttering the toast.
Severus read the note and reread it. “Hmmm…. Draco, go ahead and eat, I’m going to go find Potter. I want you to wait for the delivery person.” He swept away, back up the stairs.
Draco watched him leave with a grin. He ate his breakfast leisurely, and then went to the parlor to wait for the lab equipment to be delivered.
Severus was formulating a plan as he walked. When he arrived at Potter’s door he stopped, gently turning the knob and quietly entering the room. He sat in the chair next to the bed and decided to wait until Potter woke up.
Harry jerked awake to the shrill cry of his emergency cell phone. He fumbled with the little device trying to find the ‘Send’ button. “Hello?” he rasped.
“Harry? Harry, it’s Ron. Mum‘s just had a stroke. Hermione and I will drop Lydia and Luke off in about ten minutes.”
“Ron, NO! You can’t bring them here.”
“It’s an emergency mate. No kids under six allowed at St. Mungo’s. We’ve already dropped Allie, Kate, Josie, Anne, and Minnie off at Hermione’s parent’s. They just couldn’t take Lydia and Luke too. Five minutes, bro.” Ron hung up the phone before Harry could respond. Harry jumped out of his bed and came face to face with Severus.
“Severus! Bloody hell. What are you doing here?”
“I wanted to speak with you. About what happened last night with Draco.”
“Look, I’m sorry about that, but he came on to me, and I really don’t have time to discuss this further, I have to get downstairs and try to convince Ron and Hermione that this is a bad idea.” Harry threw on his bathrobe and bolted down the stairs. Arriving at the door just as the bell rang.
Harry threw open the door and started speaking, “Ron, Hermione, you can’t! I can’t take them.”
Ron glared at him, the toddler in his arms beginning to pout. “It’s alright, Luke, he just means he doesn’t have your room ready yet.”
Harry’s heart broke seeing the little boy look so hurt. He couldn’t turn the little ones away. “Uncle Ronnie’s right, Luke. I just don’t have anywhere for you to sleep yet.” The little boy held out his arms and Harry grinned taking him from the other man. He ruffled the little boy’s red hair and kissed the top of his head. He looked to Ron, “Where are Hermione and Lydia?”
“Right here, Liddy forgot something in the car.” Hermione called from down the walk.
The little girl at her side looked up and grinned. She dropped Hermione’s hand and ran towards Harry with a cry of “Daddy!”
Harry dropped to one knee and hugged the little girl tight. Harry started to cry holding the two little ones tight. Luke put his hand on Harry’s cheek and asked, “What’s wrong, Daddy?”
Harry smiled at the little boy, “I’ve just missed you two so much.”
Luke smiled, liking that answer, “We missed you too. “ and kissed Harry’s cheek.
Lydia nodded her head, “Yep. Missed you bunches.”
Harry smiled and put Luke down next to his sister. “I’m sorry I was such a prat on the phone. Tell Molly I hope she gets better soon.”
Hermione hugged him, “We will. Be careful around those two snakes, Harry, and keep the twins safe.”
Harry hugged her back, “Of course, you’re talking like I’m not their father.”
Ron grinned, “No, just like a mother, she says the same stuff to me when she’s leaving me alone with the kids. Just be careful, those two get into everything, and they’re starting to take after Uncles Freddie and Georgie.”
Harry groaned, “Great, just who they need to take after.”
Hermione giggled, “Well, we need to scoot. They’re due for lunch in about an hour. We’ll keep you posted on Molly’s progress. I don’t know if she’ll ever be able to take the twins back again though.”
“Well, if they do well with Severus and Draco, then she may not need to. I just want Molly to get better.”
“So do we. Here are their things. We shrunk it all down so we could get everything, including their beds, they go nuts when they have to sleep in someone elses bed,” Ron said dropping a small box into Harry’s palm. Then he waved at the two toddlers. “Bye, Liddy. Bye, Luke.”
“Bye,” The two little ones said together, waving.
He took Hermione’s arm and led her off down the walk.
Harry closed the door and turned to look at his children. Lydia had his black hair, but she had Ginny’s smile and dimples. Luke had the Weasley red hair, but his green eyes. Harry looked at the small box in his hand. Where would he put the twins? He didn’t really want them sleeping downstairs alone, nor did he want them upstairs with Draco and Severus while he was downstairs.
Harry heard someone clear their throat and looked up. Severus was standing in front of the stairs, watching the twins. “Aren’t you going to introduce us?”
Luke was staring, wide eyed, at Severus. Lydia ran over and hid behind Harry’s legs. Harry groaned, “Severus, is it too much to ask that you try not to scare the living daylights out of my children?”
Severus’ eyes went wide, “They’re your children? I never knew you had children.”
Harry sighed, he had tried to keep the twins existence a secret because he couldn’t bear losing them too, “There’s a reason you never knew, almost no one did. The Weasleys, Remus Lupin, and Minerva McGonnogall. They’re the only people I ever trusted to know about the twins. Promise me the information won’t leave this house.”
Severus stared at Potter, he’d already lost so much. He nodded, “I swear.”
Harry nodded, “Thank you.” He bent down and pulled Lydia out from behind him. Luke walked over to him and grabbed his hand, “Lydia, Luke, this is a friend of daddy’s. His name is Mr. Snape.”
Severus went to one knee with a slight grimace, his joints ached. “You may call me Severus. Lydia, Luke, it is very nice to meet you.”
Lydia cocked her head to one side and walked over to him. She put a hand on either side of his face and looked into his eyes for several moments. Then she grinned and kissed his cheek, “I like you, Sev-Sev-wis,” she scrunched up her face, trying to make his name come out right.
Severus smiled at her, “You may call me Sev.”
Lydia grinned. “Sev. I like you.”
Luke shuffled over to him as well, brows drawn together in concentration. He held out his hand to shake Severus‘. “Sevrus, it’s good to meet you.”
Severus bit back a smile, it would only hurt the little boy’s feelings. He shook the little boy’s hand solemnly, “Luke.”
Harry stifled a laugh. His little boy was trying to be so grown up, it was adorable.
There was a loud crash from the basement and Lydia grabbed Severus’ shirt in fright. Severus wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “It’s alright.”
Harry walked over to the basement door, “Draco? Are you alright?”
Draco cursed loudly, “I’m fine! Damnit, I just dropped a cauldron on my foot.”
The twins both giggled at hearing the bad word. Harry groaned, “Why don’t you come up here for a minute, I need to talk to you about something.”
“Fine.”
Severus stood and Lydia held up her arms. Severus looked to Harry, confused.
Harry grinned, “She wants you to pick her up.”
“Oh.” Severus looked at the little girl again.
“Go on, Severus. She won’t break.”
Severus bent down and picked the little girl up. She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, resting her head on his shoulder.
Draco came up the stairs and stopped dead when he saw Severus holding a little girl.
