ch 6 Caring is Confusing
Ch 6 Caring is Confusing
Severus found he couldn't concentrate on books in the library. He finally gave up and headed for Gryffindor tower.
What had Malfoy meant-someplace where his kind of magic was appreciated, Slytherin House? Severus had expected to be placed in Slytherin.
But that didn't make any sense. Malfoy knew he couldn't change his House. Someone who would honor him for his abilities- who? Slytherins? Someone outside Hogwarts?
In Gryffindor common room he pulled out his books and writing materials at a table with Lily, Remus, and a few others. They gave him welcoming smiles and made room, and he tried to concentrate until the 'terrible two' (pathetic pair? dumbshit duo? the list could go on endlessly) came rambling in through the portrait hole along with their followers/hangers on. They ignored Severus and he gave up trying to study and instead studied them. Some of his housemates were alright, even nice, but that bunch! He had nothing in common with them, and the loathing he felt for their behavior seemed mutual.
The Slytherin bunch, on the other hand, seemed rather impressed by him at the moment. Even Professor Dumbledore disapproved of the magic he had used, but Malfoy said there were places and people who would appreciate his abilities, not try to change him. He thought fleetingly of the blonde girl and her smile. But the Slytherins made him uneasy on many levels. He suddenly remembered Malfoy commenting on the Gryffindors not believing him at the lunch table. How had he known about that? No way he or any of the Slytherins could have overheard. Who told them about it?
He glanced around the common room, and Lily smiled up at him. Bonita asked him a question about an assignment and the others at the table joined in the discussion. They liked him as he was, didn't they? Severus had never cared much what other people thought of him. He wasn't sure he liked the change.
Long after lights out Severus lay awake trying to sort out his jumbled thoughts and feelings.
