Chapter 4- Couples, Loneliness and Enemies
Hermione spent the rest of the day with her sisters and father. After lunch Hermione sat with Remus in his private chambers.
“Do you think you can handle being a Charmed One?” Remus asked.
“Yes.” she answered.
Remus handed her a cup of tea. They sat in silence for a minute or so before Hermione spoke again.
“Um…Draco asked me to marry him last night. I said yes.” Hermione said.
“I know. He came down to see Severus last night. He also knows you’re a Charmed One and my daughter.” Remus said with a chuckle.
“How…how did he know? I didn’t even find out that I was a Charmed One or your daughter until this morning?” she asked.
“Last night he said you had moved and the light caught you just right. He saw both myself and your mother in you. And before you ask, all pure-blood families know of the Halliwell family. When Patti died, everyone knew. They also know what she looked like. Out of her daughters, you look the most like her.” Remus answered.
“Are you all right with me marrying him?” she questioned.
“Do you love him?” he replied.
“More than anything.” she answered.
“All I care about is your happiness. As long as you love him, he loves you and you’re happy, that’s all that matters darling.” he said.
Hermione sat her tea down and moved over beside her father. Remus had just sat his cup down when she threw herself into his arms.
“Thank you. It means so much to me to have your support. I love you. Daddy.” Hermione said as she hugged Remus tightly.
“I love you too Hermione. I promise to make up for all the years I have missed of your life.” Remus said tearfully as he clutched his daughter tightly to him.
At dinner that night Hermione and Draco told their friends the good news. Remus and Hermione agreed to keep the truth about Hermione to just them, Draco, Albus, Severus and her sisters. They would tell them when they need to know.
“Have you guys thought of about when you two would like to get married?” Ginny asked.
“We haven’t planned that far ahead Gin.” Hermione answered.
“Have you guys told your parents yet?” Ron asked as stuffed mashed potatoes in his mouth.
“Yes. I spoke to her parents and my father two days before we left for Hogwarts. Her parents and mine were thrilled.” Draco answered as he put his arm around Hermione.
Up at the head table Severus was talking with Prue.
“I take it you four got to know Hermione today?” Severus asked.
“Yeah. She is so much like mom. I wish mom and Grams were still alive to see her. They would be so proud.” Prue answered.
“Yes they would be. I didn’t really get to know Patricia until Remus told me he was going to be a father. It was during those visits between Remus and Patricia that I really got to know her.” Severus said.
‘Come on Prue. Relax. There’s no need to get shy around him. Just talk to him.’ Prue said to herself.
“Prue, after dinner would you like to come to my chambers for an after dinner drink?” Severus asked.
“I would lo to Severus.” Prue replied with a smile.
Paige watched her sisters with a twinge of jealousy. Piper had Leo, Hermione had Draco, Prue was getting to know Severus and Remus and Phoebe were getting closer as well.
‘Why am I always the last to find love? Love? Ha! More like wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am. All I want is a chance at happiness. Like my sisters.’ Paige thought sadly.
“Paige, something wrong sweetie?” Piper asked her sister.
“Huh? Yeah, but it’s nothing.” Paige said.
“You sure? You want to talk later?” Piper asked.
“Actually yeah. I could use someone to talk to. How about an hour after dinner?” Paige answered.
“All right. An hour after dinner in my chambers. Prue is going to Severus’s after dinner.” Piper agreed.
“Phoebe, would you care to go for a stroll around the lake?” Remus asked.
“Yes. That sounds great!” Phoebe said with a bright smile.
Dinner ended. Hermione, Draco, and their friends headed for Gryffindor Tower. Phoebe and Remus headed outside. Prue and Severus snuck down to the dungeons. And Piper and Paige headed for their rooms.
Phoebe and Remus made their way onto the grounds. They began walking around the lake. Up in Gryffindor Tower, Hermione and Draco stood at the window.
“What do you think of that?” Draco asked pointing down at Phoebe and Remus.
“I think it’s fine.” Hermione answered.
“But that would make her your step-mother.” Draco said.
“That may be, but as long as they’re happy, that’s all that matters.” Hermione said.
“It’s so beautiful here.” Phoebe said as she walked alongside Remus.
“Phoebe, I have to tell you something.” Remus started.
“What is it?” Phoebe asked.
“I think I’m falling for you. I know it can’t be right. I mean, I’m your sister’s father.” he answered.
“Remus, I think I’m falling for you too. If this is so wrong, than why were we brought together? Perhaps, tomorrow, we should talk to Hermione.” she said.
Remus nodded. Phoebe took his hand in hers. Together they headed back inside. Down in the dungeons, Prue sat on the sofa in Severus’s sitting room. Prue looked around the room.
She figured his quarters would have been darker and colder. She was surprised to find his quarters warm and somewhat bright, almost welcoming. The room was decorated in earth tones, deep purple and hints of silver and green.
“I’m surprised.” Prue said.
“About what?” Severus asked.
“Your rooms. I figured they would have been darker. You know, like you.” she answered.
“Appearances aren’t everything. What would you like to drink?” he asked.
“What do you got?” she asked.
“Tea, coffee, Fire Whisky, Jack Daniels, Whiskey. You name it, I probably got it.” Severus answered.
“I think I’ll start off with a glass of iced tea.” Prue said.
“Okay.” Severus said.
A few minutes later Severus sat beside Prue on the sofa holding a cup of Errol Grey tea.
“So, how long have you been a teacher here?” Prue questioned.
“Sixteen years. I started teaching potions here the September of the year that Potter’s parents were killed.” Severus answered.
“Why do you call him Potter? The boy has a name.” Prue asked.
“I guess he reminds me so much of his father. James Potter and I hated each other when we went to school here. I know I’ve taken my feelings of his father out on him, but I just can’t help it.” Severus answered.
“I know what you mean. First of all, is Harry like his dad? I mean as much as you seem to think he is?” Prue questioned.
Severus took a sip of his tea. As he did, he thought about Prue’s words.
‘Is Potter as bad as his father? True the boy is a pain in the ass, and gets himself and others into trouble, but he always manages to get out again. He’s also not as arrogant as James. Now that I think about it, the boy isn’t as fame and glory seeking as I thought.’ Severus thought.
“I guess he’s not so bad.” Severus sighed.
“From what Albus told us, the boy has been through so much.. I mean, he’s famous before he can walk or talk and lost his parents. Plus, from what I’ve noticed, he doesn’t appear to appreciate all the attention he gets.” Prue replied.
The two sat in silence, covertly observing each other. Meanwhile, Paige was sitting on the couch in Prue and Piper’s common room.
“Okay, what’s bothering you?” Piper asked as she sat down two glasses of iced tea.
“I’m just a little jealous is all.” Paige sighed as she sipped her drink.
“Jealous? Of what?” Piper questioned.
“Of you, Phoebe, Prue and even Hermione.” Paige answered.
“Why?” Piper questioned.
“You have Leo, Hermione has Draco and it seems Prue has that Snape guy and Phoebe has Remus!” Paige cried as she rose to her feet and began pacing.
“Ph sweetie.” Piper sighed.
“It seems everyone has found love but me. All I want is to find someone I can share my life with. Is that so much to ask?” Paige moaned as she plopped down beside Piper.
“Honey, it takes time. It took me and Leo a couple of years before we finally got together. Hell, even Prue and Phoebe haven’t had the best track record in the love department.” Piper said as she wrapped her arm around Paige’s shoulder.
“When? When will I find love like the rest of you have?” Paige asked sadly.
“When the time is right. Don’t rush it. Okay. For now, enjoy your life. All right.” Piper said calmly.
Back downstairs in the dungeons, Prue and Severus sat comfortably side-by-side.
“I can’t explain it but I feel attracted to you.” Prue said.
“I know. I feel the same way. I have felt that way since the night we met.” Severus added as he moved Prue into his arms.
Prue welcomed the feel of his arms around her. Prue turned herself around in his arms so that she was facing him. Slowly, Severus reached up and placed his hand on her cheek. Prue covered his hand with hers.
Ever so slowly their faces came closer. It was like electricity as their lips met. The kiss began soft, sweet, and explorative. After a minute or so the kiss became hot, passionate and demanding. Severus held Prue close and tightly to him as Prue threaded her fingers in his hair.
Finally, they came apart, gasping for air. They pressed their foreheads together. Severus gently pressed his lips to hers for a second.
“Wow. You are a really good kisser.” Prue said with a smile.
“So are you my dear. What do you think your sister is going to think of her oldest sister being with her potions professor?” Severus asked with a grin.
“I don’t know. I’m sure she’ll be happy for us. Or at least I hope she will.” Prue answered.
“I think you should head back. Piper will probably start to worry if you stay much longer.” he said as he pulled them to their feet.
“Yeah. Well, thanks for the drink. Good night. I’ll see you at breakfast.” Prue said as she kissed him once more then left.
Ten minutes later Prue entered her and Piper’s rooms. Piper was sitting on the couch reading the Evening Prophet. Prue was on cloud 9 as she sat in the arm chair across from Piper.
“You seem happy.” Piper said.
“Yep.” Prue replied.
“Are you and that Snape guy together or what?” Piper asked as she folded and sat the paper aside.
“Sort of. I mean, I don’t think we’ll make it official, at least not till we talk to Hermione. I don’t want to make things difficult for her.” Prue answered.
“Well, you dating her professor can’t be any weirder than Phoebe dating her father.” Piper said with a smile.
“Really? Phoebe and Remus? Wow, I don’t feel so bad then.” Prue laughed.
As the castle slept, Voldemort was meeting with someone who could cause a lot of trouble for not only the Charmed Ones, but Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix as well.
“Why should I help you?” Voldemort asked.
“Look, you want this kid dead and I want the Charmed Ones. We can help each other. I know the Charmed Ones and you know this kid. So, it makes sense we help each other.” the figure in black said.
“All right. But, if you double cross me, I will make sure it is the last thing you ever do.” Voldemort hissed.
“Fine. I’ll be in touch.” the figure said.
Voldemort nodded and apparated away. The figure smiled evilly as he began forming his plan.
“Soon. Soon she’ll be mine once more. And I will never let her go.” he said and vanished in a flash of flames.
