***************************************************************************
“Lialani? Lialani, wake up!” Harry shook the sleeping form on the infirmary bed, trying not to wake Madam Pomfrey.
She sat up; rubbing the eyes that Harry had come to love, even though he just met her this morning.
“Harry? Oh, Harry, let me go back to sleep. I’m so sleepy from everything that happened today,” she moaned.
“And just what happened today?” Harry’s voice had gone dangerously low and his eyes narrowed.
She looked at him, fear replacing the sleepiness quickly. “Well, you know, coming back to school, the long trip, all that stuff in Dumbledore’s office, when I fainted, you know, all that stuff.”
“How about when you woke up? Cause I know you woke up before now.”
Lialani’s eyes went wide with surprise and she hung her head.
“Guess what I saw today? Come on, guess, Lialani!”
Lialani merely whimpered softly.
“Nope, sorry, wrong answer.aw eaw everything that happened. I saw you wake up and run by me in the hallway, so I followed you. And guess where you ended up? Snape’s private quarters! And what did you do then? You banged on the door, and when he opened it and came out, you practically threw yourself into his arms!”
“I tripped! I fell backwards and he caught me!” Her head lifted up and Harry saw something in her eyes that looked familiar-the same furious fire he had seen burning in them in the Pensieve.
“Oh, no, no, no, NO!” Harry yelled.
The bed she was sitting on flew into the sir, knocking Harry to the ground as it did so. Around her, in a perfect rectangle, the edges of the bed erupted in flames. The remaining beds in the infirmary began spinning, and flying through the air every which way, some smashing into walls or another bed. He watched, shocked, as countless bottle, pitchers, and goblets exploded, the pieces flying through the air, some cutting his face, some cutting hers. The blood flowed down her cheeks unnoticed. She sat on the burning bed, unhurt by the flames, simply sitting there.
Suddenly, the infirmary door burst open and a red-faced Severus appeared. Almost immediately, the beds fell to the floor, slowly moving and revolving into their rightful places. The flames were extinguished, the bed lowered slowly to the floor. She opened her eyes, and when she saw Severus, she leaped off the bed and flew into his awaiting arms. Severus stroked her hair, muttering soft reassuring words, and held her tightly to him.
“Harry! Severus! What in the Gods name happened in here?” Poppy had woken up and burst into the infirmary opposite Severus.
“Madam Pomfrey! I came into see Lialani…”
”At this hour?”
“Well, actually, you know what? I think I should just get back to bed…”
“Hold it right there, Potter!” Severus shouted, causing Lialani to flinch. “Why did you come out here in the first place?”
“Well, I’m already in enough trouble, I might as well tell you. I saw everything that happened outside your private quarters, Professor, and I came to talk to Lialani about it. But she got mad and her powers went crazy. Then you showed up and it all ended,” Harry replied, glaring at how tightly Severus was holding Lailani.
“How DARE you come here and bother her about something that doesn’t even concern you and cause all this!” Severus yelled, gesturing with one arm to the charred bed and pieces of glass everywhere, the other arm sill wrapped tightly around Lialani.
Harry remained silent, not wanting to further Severus’ anger. He had never seen him this angry.
“Severus, let go of that poor girl! I want to examine her cuts,” Poppy said, hurrying over to where the two were standing. But when Poppy tried to pull Lialani away, she wailed and clung to Severus. The harder Poppy tugged, the louder Lialani wailed, until finally she gave up and bustled over to Harry to examine his cuts.
Severus looked down at the girl who was clinging to him fiercely, not willing to let go. Her face was covered in blood, smearing it all over his night jacket. He didn’t care. He just took out his wand and with a wave the cuts and blood disappeared, but for some reason stayed on his night jacket.
She looked up at him, and asked, “Professor, how did you know that I was using my powers?”
“Well, I was sitting at my desk, grading some papers” Harry snorted derisively, but Severus chose to ignore him “and suddenly this pain seared thought my head, knocking me to the floor. I stood up, and suddenly I had an image of you in my head, sitting on a floating, burning bed here in the infirmary. So I rushed up here and found that going on and as soon as I stepped into the room you stopped, and everything stopped and went back to normal,” he replied, resting his cheek on the top oh her head, still stroking her hair.
“I sensed that someone who cared for mw had entered the room, although I had no idea who. But I didn’t care, whoever it was I wanted them to comfort me. So I stopped everything and when I felt the bed hit the floor, I opened my eyes and saw you,” she murmured softly, so softly that no one but Severus heard her.
Then Albus burst into the room.
“Severus! How did you know that she was using her powers?” he asked, shocked that Severus had made it there before him.
Severus repeated what happened in his office, his arms still around Lialani but his head had lifted.
Albus nodded as Severus finished, laying his back down on Lialani’s head. She was trembling now, and she was still clinging to him, something Albus had not failed to notice. He smiled at the way Severus continued to stroke the girl’s hair and hold her close.
Albus turned to Harry in an effort to get the attention off Severus and Lialani.
“Now, Harry, you haven’t even been punished for allowing her to use her powers earlier and you’ve caused another episode for her,” Albus scolded, wincing at the look of sadness that crossed Harry’s face. “You must be punished now before you start up anytime again. You have a month’s detention with Filch for both of the incidents.”
“I have two months of detention?” Harry exclaimed.
“No, you have one month. It would have been only two weeks, but you went and caused this,” Albus nodded at Lialani, whose trembling had slowed to a brief tremor every minute or so.
“Yes, Professor Dumbledore,” Harry mumbled. “Oh, and Professor?”
“Yes, Harry?” Albus looked mildly surprised at the thought of a question, but when he saw Harry’s eyes dart to Severus and Lialani and back, he knew what was coming.
“Why are they so close? How did that happen? Why aren’t you stopping it?” Harry rattled off the questions faster than Albus could think of the answers.
“Well, they shared a lot of time over the summers as Lialani was tested, and they worked together over this previous summer. They got to know each other, Harry, quite well, and they’ve become great friends. I’m allowing it to continue because I see no harm in it,” Albus replied, not mentioning the fact that Severus was possibly in love with her.
Harry nodded, but was still angry inside.
Severus sank onto a different bed, pulled Lialani onto his lap, and started to rock her gently. She leaned against him, her eyelids growing heavy. In a minute, she was sleeping peacefully. Severus laid her down carefully on the bed.
“She’s alright,” he said to no one in particular, just to end the silence.
“That’s good. Now, Harry, I want you to go back to your common room so you can get some sleep since you have classes tomorrow,” Albus nodded at the boy.
“Potter, go, she’ll be alright!” Severus snapped, pointing to the door.
Harry bit back a smart reply and left the room.
“Severus, you’ve allowed yourself too get in too deep,” Albus said.
“What are you talking about, Albus? I merely comforted ther gir girl,” Severus protested.
“No, you didn’t! You connected deeply with her and she with you! That’s why you knew that her powers were going off, that’s why you had that pain and saw that flash of her. She somehow connected you with her until the end of either of your lives. In addition, should she feel that your life is in danger, she can channel her power to you and use it to save your life. She’ll be using her powers through your body, she’ll be experiencing everything you are, and she’ll use her powers to save your life! How could you let this happen, Severus?” Albus’ eyes were wide and frantic.
“Albus, calm down! Is it that bad?”
“Yes, because whatever injury you get while she’s helping you, she’ll get too! And if you die, she dies with you!”
Severus went even paler than usual, if that’s possible, and he knew that he couldn’t allow that. He would not have that sweet girl die for the pathetic excuse of this man that he had become, or so he thought.
“Albus, can we stop it? Can we break the connection?” Severus asked frantically.
Albus shook his head grimly, but then brightened.
“Wait a minute, Severus! Your Occlumency! You could block your mind against her!”
Now Severus shook his head.
“But I don’t want to stop being able to tell if she uses her power when she’s not supposed to.”
“Then open your mind when you know that she’s not supposed to be using it.”
Severus nodded, that made sense.
“Now, please, Severus, don’t allow anything more but teaching from you and learning from her,” Albus shook his head, not understanding how Severus could have fallen so hard and so quickly when for twenty years, he had tried so hard to stay away from everyone and everything to prevent this exact thing from happening. But it had happened, and when he least expected it.
“Albus, I don’t know how this happened! I don’t know how I feel, why I feel anything, and what I can do about any of this!” Severus exclaimed.
“Now, Severus, shush, you’ll wake her up. My boy, you really cannot do anything. You can merely be her teacher and hope her affections turn elsewhere.”
“But I don’t want them to!” Severus blurted out.
“I know you don’t. But there’s nothing you can do about your feeling, absolutely nothing, until she turns of age.”
Severus slumped into a chair and covered his face. At that moment, Lialani wailed and thrashed in her sleep. Sev lea leaped up and sat down next to her. He put a hand on her forehead and she instantly calmed. He looked puzzled.
“Albus, I heard her voice in my head, loud and clear. She told me to sit next to her and put a hand on her forehead, so I did. But how did she talk in my mind? That’s not one of her powers.”
“The bond must be deeper than I thought. You two must be spiritually and mentally connected instead of just spiritually,” Albus looked surprised. “Well, is it was you and her that bonded, why did that happen between her and Harry?”
“Well, she must have switched who she wanted. At that moment, that’s who she wanted. But it could have changed since then.”
“But that happened only hours ago! Why would she change that fast and bond with you?”
“Wait, Albus, she can read minds, right?”
“Yes, you know that.”
Suddenly the same thought that hit Severus smacked Albus full in the face.
“She read your mind and saw just how much you cafor for her and decided to bond with you instead of Harry because she probably felt that his affections weren’t nearly as strong as yours.”
Severus shook his head. His life had been simple and she muddled it all up. However, when he looked down at her sleeping, despite how tangled in the sheets she was, his heart melted and he knew that he wouldn’t want his life without her.
Albus broke his reverie, saying, “Severus, we should both get to bed seeing as we have crazy head days ahead the both of us.”
Severus nodded, and with a final pat on her limp hand that was resting on her belly, he went down to bed.
---------------------
Lialani sat up quickly, sweaty and disorientated. She looked around, calming at the sight of the familiar darkened infirmary. She moaned as the pounding in her head returned full-force. But the memories that were flooding back were much worse.
*flashback*
“Daddy, no, I promise I won’t do it again! Just please, Daddy, no more!” Lialani cried, cowering on the floor.
“I warned you, I told you not to. But you did it anyway. Now you’re going to be punished,” her father stood over her, red-faced and mean, holding an awful-looking paddle.
“No, Daddy!”
But the paddle was brought down again and again, hitting every inch of her body, leaving welts and bruises. When he was finished, she was a heap of quivering flesh on the living room floor.
“Will you disobey me again, child?” he asked dangerously, his face an inch from hers.
“No, Daddy,” she whimpered softly.
“What? I can’t hear you, girl.”
“I said, No Daddy.”
“Good girl.”
He put the paddle on top of a bookshelf and sat down in the armchair in front of the telly. Lialani stayed huddled on the floor, crying softly.
*end flashback*
Lialani hugged herself tightly, tears welling up. She glanced around the infirmary to make sure she was completely alone. She saw a black shape by the bed. She rea for for the bedside lamp, only to find none. Rustling around in here robes, she found that her wand had been taken; probably she dropped it when she woke up and panicked earlier. But with a few seconds of concentration, she was cupping a small fire in her hands. Her head throbbed even more painfully, but the pain was forgotten when the light flickered over the face of the owner of the bulk.
----------------------
Harry muttered angrily under his breath as he trudged along the well-known path to Gryffindor tower.
“Stupid greasy git…shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near Lialani…trying to get a girl that’s half his age…must be mental…” he stomped down a dark corridor, lost in his thoughts. Little did he know that someone was coming the other way.
Little stars burst in front of his eyes as he collided with another human form.
“OW, what is with me and running into people today?” he groaned as he massaged his head.
”Potter!” hisa fua furious voice.
Harry looked up, and right into two dark, blazing eyes. He knew that he was in trouble.
“You’re still out?” Severus asked angrily.
“Actually, I’m basically right outside my common room,” Harry replied, gesturing to a portrait about ten feet away.
“Fine. Then get in it,” he snapped.
Harry stepped up to the painting, but whispered the password, probably thinking that he might try to come in one night and try to get Lialani. Severus snorted at the thought. Harry had already climbed in the portrait hole so he didn’t hear this. This, for the moment, was probably a good thing.
----------------------------------
“Hermione?” whispered Lialani incredulously, wondering if she was dreaming. But she wasn’t. At the sound of her whisper, Hermione woke up, being a very light sleeper.
“Oh, Lialani, you’re awake. I was wondering why you weren’t in the dormitory, and when Harry came into the common room to get his cloak, I asked him an sad sad that you were in the hospital wing. So I cast an invisibility charm and came down to see you. But the you woke up and ran out, came back and went back to sleep, then Harry woke you up and set off your powers, Snape and Dumbledore got here, Snape rocked you to sleep-which was very cute, I might say-and Snape and Dumbledore had a very interesting chat and then left. I didn’t want to wake you, so I sat in this chair and I guess I fell asleep,” Hermione concluded.
“Oh. Hey, wait a minute. What did Snape and Dumbledore talk about?” Lialani asked, cursing Severus for being the first person in six years to rock her to sleep.
“You and Snape.”
“But what about me and Snape?”
“Dumbledore was talking about you being spiritually and mentally connected with Snape and how you could use you powers through his body to save his life but if he dies you die too. Snape didn’t want that, so Dumbledore suggested that he use Occlumency to lock you of hif his minds except when he knows that you shouldn’t be using your powers. Plus, I heard something that will ery ery interesting to you.”
“Come on, Hermione, spill, spill!”
“Snape fell in love with you.”
Lialani was shell-shocked. She never would have thought that. Even all those times when he would catch her in the hallways after curfew and would walk her to the common room and she knew that he was always watching her in class but so was McGonagall so Lialani jussumesumed that it was only so she didn’t get angry enough for her powers, but since she assumed that, she never in the span of her life would have thought that he was in love with her.
“Um, Lialani, are you okay? I didn’t do anything wrong by telling you, did I? Oh, no, you’re not gonna use your power!” Hermione was working herself into hysteria when Lialani put a hand up.
“He-he loves me?” she choked out, still unable to believe it.
Hermione nodded.
“Wait a minute. It must be a few floors down, but if you think about it, the Potions’ classroom is right below the hospital wing!” Lialani cried.
“Hang on-no, wait, that figures out. But why?”
“I’ll tell you in at breakfast, and I’ll definitely be there. They’re not making me stay here for another day. But get back to bed, I don’t want you getting trouble over me.”
Hermione nodded and recast the invisibility charm, which had worn off while she was sleeping because she hadn’t renewed it at all.
Lialani felt arms hug her tightly and she hugged back. When she saw the door open and close she immediately began concentrating. She knew that Severus would know that she was using a power, and she was counting on that. She felt her body go weightless, and knew that she had been successful. Directing herself down, she floated through the bed and ceiling. When she reached the room beneath, she realized that it wasn’t the room she was looking for and kept going. What she didn’t realize was that she had just interrupted something that would have been very embarrassing if she had been paying attention and noticed. Minerva looked at her shocked while Albus busied himself with getting their clothes back on.
But Lialani disappeared through the floor, not noticing the two flustered professors. The classroom underneath it wasn’t the one she wanted either, and she could feel her strength beginning to waver. She hoped the next classroom was it, because she didn’t think she’d last through any more ceilings. But the gods were smiling down on her, for when she looked around, she saw the empty tables that could belong in only one room: the Potions’ classroom.
------------------------------
Severus’ head shot up off his arms. He got shakily to his feet, head burning as the pain seared through it, but was knocked onto his back as pain shot through his entire body. He knew what was going on: Lialani was using one of her powers.
He sat up, bracing himself for another shock of pain, but it didn’t come for a minute. A picture of Lialani floating down into the classroom right above the Potions’ classroom flashed into his mind. He knew in an instant where she was headed.
He sprang to his feet and raced across his sitting room. But as he reached the doorway to his office, a bolt of sharp pain crashed through his body, leaving him trembling on the floor in the doorway in its wake. As soon as it passed, he leaped to his feet and flew through his office and into the Potions’ classroom. When he got there, he stood in the middle of the room and looked up.
First, her feet appeared, followed by her legs, and then the rest of her appeared. Her head appeared, and just as she looked around, her eyes closed and she plummeted. He caught her deftly; his heart lurching as he realized what could have happened if she had bonded with Potter instead of him. But now was not the time to think about it. He looked down at her and was surprised to see her eyes open.
Lialani looked up at him, and she felt her heart skip a beat.
“Professor, do you love me?”
Shock appeared in his eyes although his face remained expressionless. Slowly, the shock evaporated, being replaced with poorly masked love. He tried to shake his head, but Lialani put her hands on either side of his face and stopped him.
”Don’t lie to me, I can see it in your eyes!” she cried.
Instead of answering her, he stood her on her feet. She looked up at him, wondering why he hadn’t answered her.
“Answer me,” she demanded quietly.
His answer was quite different than what she expected. He crushed his lips beneath hers, delighting in the way she pasted herself against him. Her lips parted for him, and his tongue delved into her wet cavern, tasting her eagerly. She moaned softly as she felt it sweep around her mouth.
Lialani felt her head spin. But she responded passionately, finally being able to submit to the need she felt. Her hands strayed up to his blood-covered night jacket and began to undo all the buttons, never breaking the kiss.
Air became necessary, though, and they broke apart. Severus took advantage of this to push her over-robe off, leaving it in a puddle on the floor. She eagerly undid the last button on his night jacket, pulled it off, and tossed it over her shoulder. They both attacked each other’s shirts, hastily undoing the buttons. Severus became annoyed and simply pulled her blouse off, scattering the buttons everywhere. Lialani made a mental note to fix that. He kissed her, again, making her work even faster at the buttons. She finished the last button and he pulled it off, breaking the kiss only long enough to let it pass their faces. She pulled her skirt down, kicking it somewhere into the room. At the same time, Severus’ pants flew over her head. He pushed her against the table behind her, kissing her fiercely. She yanked at the waistband of his boxers, pulling them down as he slipped her panties off. He broke the kiss, looking down at her.
She looked back at up him, and pulled him down on top of her. He entered her with a swift thrust and heard her cry out softly. He looked down at her, thinking that he had hurt her, but she pushed up with her hips, urging him on.
As Severus began to thrust, Lialani felt herself being pushed back into the table with each one. She moaned, loving the feeling of him slipping in and out of her. She wanted it faster, so she wrapped her legs around his waist and pushed up harder.
“Faster, harder, faster, harder,” she chanted into his ear.
Severus was in no mood to deny her so he began plunging into her faster and faster, giving in completely to the want he had felt for a year. He felt himself get closer and closer to climax, and just as he was about to go over the edge, he felt her muscles clamp down around him, immediately sending him over and causing his climax to last longer. He shuddered as wave after wave of pleasure washed over him. Lialani whimpered softly beneath him, still experiencing the tingles of pleasure running through her. She was gasping for breath, and when she looked into his eyes, she smiled.
It was then that exactly what just happened hit him like a ton of bricks. He gasped and untangled his hands form her hair, where they had taken up residence when he climaxed. She sighed as he slipped out of her and off of her.
At that moment, Lialani felt as though the world was crumbling on top of her. She realized that she had just made love to her professor.
“Oh, gods!” she cried and scrambled off the table to get dressed.
Severus faced the wall, leaning his forehead against it, and took deep breaths, his boxers already on.
“Miss Turowsky, I would very much appreciate it if whust ust happened did not get out to any of your friends,” Severus said.
She nodded mutely, yanking up her skirt. She pulled her blouse over her head and tucked it in. She gathered her over-robe up off the floor and rushed to put it on, buttoning it up to hide her button-less blouse. She really needed to fix those buttons.
Severus turned around, eyes sad.
“I’m terribly sorry about this,” he said softly.
“I’m not,” she declared defiantly and left the room.
He watched her leave, heart thumping in his chest as what she said sunk in. She wasn’t sorry that it had happened. He remembered the feel of her naked body against his and her mouth against his. She truly was beautiful, more beautiful then he had ever imagined. In an instant, cold dread gripped him as he realized something: neither of them had performed a contraceptive charm. But he convinced himself that the chance of her getting pregnant from him was remote. He put his trousers back on but decided not to bother with his shirt since he was going to bed. He walked to his bedroom and climbed into bed, tired with every fiber of his being. But his mind was too full of Lialani and the way she looked and felt underneath him. He tossed and turned, trying to get to sleep but the peaceful darkness eluded him.
-----------
Upstairs, Lialani was having the same problem. She couldn’t close her eyes without seeing Severus’ face in the blackness, the look on his face as they climaxed. She shuddered as she recalled the feel of his lips on hers.
Suddenly she felt a hand on her foreman. She rolled over and was confronted with Albus’ worried face.
“Hello, Professor, what are you doing here so late?” she inquired innocently, hoping it wasn’t about what she thought it was.
“Professor Snape came to me and said that he raped you. Child, I know that wasn’t what happened. Now please, tell me what really did,” Albus pleaded, hoping that Severus really didn’t and that he was right in thinking that the girl would defend him.
“Of course he didn’t! I overheard some of the things you two said and I wanted to see if it any of it was true so I used one of my powers and floated down to his classroom. As soon as I was in there, I fainted for a minute but since he had known that I was coming he was waiting for me so he caught me. But right after he caught me I woke up and asked him if he loved me. He was going to say no but I could see in his eyes that he was lying so I said so and he put me down. I told him to answer me and he kissed me. But I did NOT fight him off. I allowed him to go further because I wanted him to. That’s really what happened, Professor,” Lialani told him, the look of sincerity in her eyes convincing him that she was telling him the truth.
“Dear Gods, this has never happened,” Albus breathed, stroking his beard thoughtfully. “Well, child, you will need to take a pregnancy test, so you will not be going to your morning classes tomorrow.”
“But can I still go to breakfast in the Great Hall?” Lialani asked, praying that she could.
“Yes, yes, alright, I’ll allow you that. However, you need to report back to Madam Pomfrey so she can perform the test as soon as possible. No one can know about this, Lialani,” Albus looked straight into her eyes.
She nodded, mentally promising that she would only tell Hermione and she would make her promise not to tell anyone else.
“Very good. Now I need to talk to Severus. Get some sleep, child.”
She nodded and lay back down as if to show him that she would listen. He patted her hand, and got up. She smiled up at him and rolled over. When she heard the door close, relaxation came. She fell asleep a few minutes later.
---------------
The day dawned bright and cheery, but Lialani wasn’t feeling very cheery herself. This morning, she was going to be tested for pregnancy, something she thought she wouldn’t have to worry about until she was married. But first, breakfast!
She hurried down to the Great Hall, hoping that Hermione was there. But when she scanned the Gryffindor table, she did not see the head of bushy brown hair. She stifled a sigh of disappointment and sat down at the table.
Breakfast passed quickly and before she knew it, Professor McGonagall was pulling her away from the traffic of to the side.
“You need to go see Madam Pomfrey now,” she whispered hurriedly.
Lialani nodded and up to the hospital wing she went. She didn’t happen to bump into Hermione at all and she was disappointed.
“Oh, good, you’re here, child,” Poppy walked her to an examination table behind a large screen.
“Is it going to hurt?” Lialani asked nervously.
“Oh, heavens, no child! Just a quick spell and a tap of my wand and we will know if you’re expecting,” the nurse replied cheerfully.
Madam Pomfrey was true to her word. A spell and a wand tap later, Lialani was left with news that would change her life: she was pregnant.
