Synopsis: This story takes place after my previous story “The Lion and The Serpent”. In this story Harry and Draco are on their way back to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when they are ambushed by Death Eaters, leaving Draco half dead. So distraught over Draco’s possible death Harry wishes he was never born . . . but will his wish actually come true?

The members of the Order brought Harry back to Hogwarts. Regardless of his arguments against it, Harry was forced to leave Draco’s side. No one asked, but it had been obvious that Harry was crying, even though he managed to stop the flow of his tears before he left the roof. As soon as Harry was returned to Hogwarts all he could do was lie in bed, and wallow in his sadness. Before he could stop them, another rush of tears came out of his eyes. As Draco was lying in his hospital bed, in what seemed like countless miles away, Harry could feel a part of his heart dying slowly.

A fluttering noise suddenly came from the open window near Harry’s bed, but Harry only ignored it. Hedwig landed near Harry’s head and nipped his ear affectionately, and along beside her was Apophis. As Harry looked at him, it was clear Apophis was looking for Draco.

“He isn’t here, Apophis, and I don’t know if he’s coming back” Harry, as he petted both of them.

Hedwig and Apophis flew the the window, most likely to hunt for food. The sun was completely gone now, leaving its place in the sky for the moon, which shined brightly. The light from the moon reminded Harry of Draco’s silvery hair, and how it shined against the darkness the night they first kissed. At the moment, that fateful night seemed like a dream, as if any moment Harry would wake up and find that nothing since that night was real. Everything that happened since then kept flashing over and over in Harry’s head, as he tried to make sense of it all. He had all of Voldemort’s powers as well as his own, but he was still unable stop any of this from happening. And now, Draco was paying the price.

Harry laid himself back down on the bed and closed his eyes, trying to block everything out of his mind. After what seemed like an hour of tossing and turning, sleep finally took a hold of Harry. He found himself surrounded by water, floating face up, in the middle of the ocean. The water was as black, as dark as the sky above Harry. The sky it self was cloudless and completely black. If it wasn’t littered with stars, Harry would have been swallowed by darkness. The water felt soothingly cool over Harry’s body, which he soon realized was completely undressed. Harry moved his head only to see nothing but more darkness.

Suddenly, out from the shadows came a voice, a familiar voice that Harry could not place:

Cold as winter, strong as stone;
You face the darkness all alone.
Your weeping heart; a reflection.
An illusion; a recollection.
There is no return; no turning back.
The past is gone, and the future, grows black.
Serpents gather in your nest,
As you stand above the rest.
You view the world through the eyes of others.
Black and white; there are no colors,
As you look down upon your shattered youth,
A shattered mirror reflects a shattered truth. . .

The voice kept repeating these words, in an unending cycle, echoing louder and louder in the darkness. Until finally the words died away into nothing and a strange feeling struck Harry’s scar. It didn’t burn as it usually did, but felt cool and pleasant. Harry raised his arms up to his forehead, but just before he reached him something grabbed his shoulders, and began to sake him.

“Harry!” another voice said. “Harry wake up!”

Harry opened his eyes only to see a blur before him. Instantly, Harry found himself jump out of bed, and drawing his wand.

“This has to be a dream!” Harry said out loud, as the full impact of what he was seeing hit him.

“Don’t worry, Harry, I wont hurt you.”

“Si . . . Sirius?!?” Harry declared in shock.

“Yes Harry, it’s me” Harry’s godfather replied.

Sirius stood before Harry, looking exactly the way he did the last time Harry saw him, before he fell beyond the veil, with one big difference! He was covered in a strange aura, as if he was a ghost, but he was clearly solid.

“But, you’re dead! Are you some kind of ghost?” Harry said, still in shock.

“No Harry I’m not a ghost, but I am dead.”

“Then what are you?” Harry said, quickly gathering his wits, still pointing his wand at Sirius.

“I can’t explain it Harry, all I know is that I’m, only here to tell you this. Someone has called upon an ancient and powerful magic to show you something. What that may be, I don’t know. All I know is that The Spirits of Fate will come to you tonight, the first at midnight.”

“Who called them? And what do they want?” Harry said as he let his wand down.

“I don’t know Harry; all I know is that I was sent only to tell you that much, beyond that, your guess is as good as mine.”

“How do I know you’re really Sirius? As far as I know this could be some kind of trick!” Harry spat, as anger began to rise in place of his csionsion.

“You’ll just have to trust me on that. And Harry . . . for whatever it’s worth, if I had to make the choice, knowing what I know now, I still would have sacrificed myself to save you. After all Harry, I’m your godfather, and just as James was like my brother, I loved you just the same, and in time I loved you, like the son I always wished I had. . .”

Harry and Sirius were both in tears as they looked at each other. Harry knew at that moment beyond any doubts that the being before him, truly was Sirius. Immediately, before he could stop himself, Harry had run into Sirius and embraced him tightly, and closed his eyes to try and stop himself from crying even more. Sirius returned the gesture, and for a moment, they stood, in each others loving in embrace, just like father and son. When Harry opened his eyes finally he found himself, with his arms crossed tightly over his chest, as Sirius disappeared, becoming a strange mist, and finally nothing.

Collapsing to the floor in more tears, Harry felt it was a wonder he had any sanity left. After a few more minutes he decided to just go to bed, deciding finally that what he had seen was nothing but his mind, showing him, like The Mirror of Erised, what his heart wanted to see. Once again he fell into a deep sleep only to be awakened once again by another voice. Harry reached for his wand, which eh kept in his pocket, and found himself pointing it at a very beautiful, red haired woman. But, what shocked Harry the most were her eyes, which were almond shaped and emerald green, just like his.

“Mo . . . mom?”
