Chapter Five: The Other Side

After Viktor had left Hermione on the battle field. He was so shocked to see her. She must have been just as shocked because when he looked into her eyes he could delved into her mind easily. She had, had her mental defenses down and he saw into her mind; her time grieving him, her pain, and the time it took her to get over him, even now she still wasn't. She still wanted him with her. Still loved him as she did before.

He stood before the dark lord and hid his thoughts. His report short and to the point. The Death-Eaters had done what they were sent out to do. The normal raid, pillage, and plunder.

It was to be a normal night for him, until he ran into her. The dark lord pried into his head as the report wore on, but rather smugly Viktor managed to keep him out. The dark lord could tell that he was distracted and wanted to know why.

“Why do you keep me out of your head servant?” his high hissing voice asked.

They were alone all the others released to go back to their families.

“One of the first lessons you taught was to trust no one, not even you, My lord. All you have to do is but ask, and I will freely tell you what is on your servants mind.” Viktor said with a bow so low that he was on the ground.

Voldemort watched as Viktor slowly rose. “Tell me.” The dark lord demanded.

“It troubles me, my lord, that Harry Potter has not been seen in some time.”

Voldemort sat on his throne and stared out into space finally he said, “Yes, this is a bit troublesome. I shall think on it, perhaps a reward is in order for bringing this to my attention.”

Viktor dropped back down, “No, my Lord. The only reward I need is being in your presents and continued to be allowed to be one of your right hand men.”

The act seemed to work, Voldemort looked please. A thin lipped smile crossed his face. Knowing that he had such a faithful servant pleased him. “Hm, surely there must be something you want. For my most faithful I must insist.”

Viktor released an internal smirk, “Perhaps, My Lord, I could have a few days to visit my family back home.”

“So be it.” He could stand to released one of his inner circle for a few days. When the news that he wanted to duel Harry Potter one-on-one spread, he had faith that that good for nothing Order of the Phoenix will halt all movement to plan and prepare that wretched Potter to face him.

“Thank you, My lord. You are most gracious.” Viktor said as he bowed once more and rose.

Voldemort waved his hand in dismissal.

Not waisting any time Viktor apperated to his family home in Bulgaria. He sent his robes and mask with Doddy, his housed elf, to take to his room and sought out his parents. His mother was sitting in the study curled on a couch reading as his father read through document after document from the family business.

Hugo Krum was the head of the Krum family and the Watchers. The Watchers were an organization that kept track of all the supernatural creatures and their movements being sure to monitor them so that they didn't expose themselves or the wizarding world.

It was a career the Hermione had show a great deal of interest. Something that she had hoped that Hugo would take her under his wing for. Unfortunately that war happened and she took the Auror position to ensure that she helped with the war.

Viktor shook his head to clear it of thoughts of her. It was not yet time to think of her. He had other things to do first.

His mother, Svetlana, was the first to notice him, “Viktor Dear,” She said raising to hug her son in greeting.

“It has been a while,” She said finally releasing him to look him over. He still bore the gash over his eye and a few specks of dried blood, but over all he looked the same except for the haunted look his eyes now carried, but she could now see a hint of something else. Something only a female would recognize right away.

It was love, but with that love was mixed with trouble and worry. His mother pulled him tightly to herself. Hoping that everything would work out for him in the end.

Both parents knew what he was doing. Both knew what he was risking to help the light and they were proud, even if they worried about him at all times of the day, when ever he was not home with them they fretted about his safety.

Svetlana knew only one woman could make Viktor look like that. Hermione. At least they knew that she was alive and safe. If she were other wise his face would not show concern but devastation.

She pulled back from him, “Come tell me about it,” She said tugging his hand leading him towards the couch in the room.

He sat down and seemed to sag against the back of his seat. “You look exhausted.” Hugo stated.

“Being at the Dark Lords beck'in call is tiring. He demands a lot of his subjects and being in his inner circle requires more from me than his regular cronies.” Viktor sighed and closed his eyes.

“How is she?” His mother asked after a second of silence.

“Who?” Both Viktor and Hugo asked at the same time.

Svetlana fixed her son with a stern look, “Don't play dumb with me boy, I am your mother there for I know you. I am a woman so I also noticed the look in your eyes.” She started off harshly but soon softened her tone.

“You saw her didn't you?” She paused, “Obviously she is alive or your face would show great sorrow, devastation, and grief. In stead I see concern and worry. Where did you see her?”

Viktor took a deep breath, “I found her at the tip of my wand today. For that split second I saw into her mind, her shock allowed me to slip in. I saw her grief over the fact that she thought that I was dead. It hurt to watch her go through it.”

He sat forward and put his face into his hands. “God Mother, her pain was so great I still feel it.”

He looked up and to the side looking straight into him mothers eyes, “She still loves me. Even after these two years. She still wants me by her side. It was heart wrenching to not be able to reach out to her, to reassure her that all would be well. But even if I had been able to I do not know if it would have been true.”

Svetlana nodded in understanding.

Viktor stood up, “I have to go check on the Granger's. It has been some time since I have been able to visit them. I should be returning tonight. If I do not don't worry.” He kissed his mother cheek and nodded to his father as he strolled from the room to his own to clean up and change.

With a pop he apperated to the door of the cottage. The wards recognizing him admitted him with out sounding an alarm.

Hermione had been sure to leave the wards alone but set an alarm to go off inside the house if some one not recognized by the wards should try to enter and then when Hermione left then for the first time that she had created an emergency Port Key to take them to Headquarters should the alarm ever sound. She told them that should it ever happen, she didn't care if it happened to be a Muggle from a close by village they were to port key out.

Viktor opened the door and was about to call out when he heard talking. Two of the voices were female and one male. He crept closer to the Kitchen where they were coming from.

He heard the tale end of the conversation and arrived in enough time to hear her screech, “WHAT young man?”

He stepped from the door way and spoke, “Me, Hermione.”
