An Embarrassment and Complications

Chapter Five

An Embarrassment and Complications

Severus sat quietly in his study, pretending to read. He had tried to complete the afternoon’s task, but he just could not focus with the girl in the room. He hadn’t felt like this in a long time, and it surprised and frightened him. And when she had touched him… he had to remove himself from the situation lest he frighten her. Now he sat in his study with a raging hard-on and two hours until dinner, when he would retrieve her at the earliest possible opportunity.

Sighing at the unrelenting tight sensation in his groin, Severus felt there was only one thing to do. He slouched in his chair and opened his trousers to release his cock. He bit his lip to keep from making sounds of relief as he started to caress himself slowly, pausing every so often to fondle his balls.

He thought of his assistant and how lovely she had looked, flushed in the firelight, bent over the worktable. He imagined going to her and lifting her skirt as he pressed kisses to the back of her neck and her shoulders. She would gasp, but push back into him as he ground his erection against her bare bum.

He used his wand to cast a lubrication spell; he would take her anally. Of course he would take his time preparing and stretching her so there would be only minimal discomfort—mostly pleasure.

He would bite her neck sharply as he slid in to distract her from the initial unpleasant sensations. Once he was inside her, he would reach around her body and slip two fingers inside her while using his thumb on her clit. He could practically hear the amazing noises she would make, the breathy moans as she got closer. He would bite and suckle her earlobe as she fell over the edge, and when she did she would whisper his name…

Severus came with a low, shuddering moan.

“Hermione,” he whispered as he permitted himself to enjoy a moment of total, boneless pleasure. His head lolled to one side, eyes half open as he enjoyed the aftermath of his orgasm.

After a few moments, he retrieved his wand and cleaned up after himself, careful to freshen the air as well. He needed to be careful, very careful. It would not do to scare her off.

Though he was loathe to admit it to himself, there was something to his interest in the girl that was not purely intellectual or sexual; she had a history of coming to his defense, and her touch had been so gentle. It was what he had been craving, and upon reflection, Severus found himself to be totally abashed by his reaction to a single act of kindness… but this was what his world had come to. When was the last time someone had been kind or gentle with him?

He needed to figure out how, exactly, he was going to face her after his interlude with his overactive imagination. He had to be strong. Occlumency probably wouldn’t be enough. He needed a plan.

The whole problem with Severus Snape was that he never knew where he stood—not with others, but with himself. One moment, he was Chief Manipulative Bastard ™ capable and willing to run the world if given half a chance… another, he was a half-drunk, sniveling little boy. Well, there was no one to blame, no one at all to blame, but himself. He had thrown himself into an adult role and experienced the nightmarish elements of hell and had grown up by force, even before he made his choices. It was only natural that some element of the child that had never existed should remain behind. But damn, he wished he could just kill it and move on.

Severus set to making dinner arrangements. He would be sure to impress the girl on her first day in his employ. It had long been understood by Severus that when dealing with women, particularly when trying to impress them, the appearance and atmosphere of a room was just as important, if not more so than the food itself. He wondered what Hermione would like to eat. She struck him for a vegetarian. He could work with that.

The Headmaster had a few plans of his own for the girl; he needed Severus to make sure she was safe. In a few short years, she would put Hogwarts back on the map, big time. The school had a vested interest in this graduate. Severus Snape had a personal interest in her. The best part was that Dumbledore had asked so much of him for so long the he now allowed Severus a lot of “wiggle room” in each and every task. A dangerous thing when dealing with a Slytherin.

Hermione had completed the potion a half hour ago, all of it was stored and the stations were cleaned as if they had never been used. She sat back and thought about the changes that had taken place over the past few days. She had gone from the top of her class to… a personal assistant. Her parents would have flipped. She was utterly surprised to learn she was actually alright with the arrangement.

The truth was, Hermione was also two people: the “do it today, or later you’ll pay” sort who turned school projects in early AND did the extra credit; but the kind who totally buckled under the pressure of the real world.

‘Look at me,’ she thought, ‘what on earth, what on earth has happened to change me?’

There were so many possibilities, so many decisions, she had no idea where to begin. In school, she had always been told precisely what needed to be done and there was some measure of comfort in that which had allowed her to function in the past.

Forward thinking had never been a strength. S.P.E.W., the only attempt at originality and breaking with tradition Hermione could claim, had failed miserably. If someone had been around to tell her that the reason her efforts had failed was that she had been looking to ease her own guilt rather than actually further a cause important to the House Elves, she might have learned from the experience. Instead, Harry and Ron, and even Lupin and the Weasleys had pretty much laughed off or ignored her efforts in turn.

The magical world was much different than the Muggle world. Both were brutish and loaded with injustice, where classes had carved out their place in society long before Hermione Jane Granger came into being. The difference was, most of the creatures in the Muggle world could not advocate for themselves whereas virtually every creature in the magical world had some form of weaponry or other useful mechanism by which they could adapt to take care of themselves.

The stunning thing was she had been expected to know all this… just as if she had been born into this world. The truth was Muggle Studies wasn’t nearly as necessary as a Culture of the Magical World class was. Because for all the Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, Care of Magical Creatures, and History of Magic, she was still completely inept at social gatherings, even in the new political climate.

The door to the lab banged open and Hermione’s thoughts were interrupted when Severus informed her it was time for dinner.

A/N: I know, I know. Five months of silence and then… nothing much. I’m hoping to get back into the swing of things, but honestly, I’m having a little trouble getting back into it. Be gentle if you review, please.
