The Reaction
Down in the dungeons, Slytherin house had returned from the Hogsmeade weekend. Pansy Parkinson shoved her way to the front of the cue of students walking to their dorm. She walked through the portrait, and tripped over nothing. Everyone snickered as she lay on the ground, her angering boiling as the laughter increased. She glared at the rest of her housemates as she stood up. “All right who did it? Come on, I know someone did it. Who was it?” She said angrily as she gave a sharp glare at every single one of her housemates.
“Oh, come off it Pans, no one did anything. You just tripped over your own feet.” Blaise said pointedly as he walked by laughing at the rage showing on her prim pureblood face. As he walked toward the stairs to go towards his room, he tripped over something and landed face down on the floor. The laughter erupted from behind him again.
“Oi cut it out. Something is not right here. Look at the floor; it’s red! And look at the couches, they are red too, and the pillows are gold. What the fuck is going on here? It looks like a Gryffindor threw up in here.” He looked around in disgust at the hideous house colors that covered the common room.
“Ummm guys, it’s not just the common room, it’s all our rooms. And some of the clothes too, even underwear. Anything that’s green or silver is now red or gold. It’s atrocious, who would do this?” Theodore Nott said as he came back down the stairs. The common room quickly filled with the loud murmur of voices as everyone talked of the new development.
“HOLD IT!” Daphne Greengrass shouted, “This reeks of a certain former Gryffindor.”
“Nah, Granger doesn’t have the guts.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”
“Yeah, I think you guys are underestimating her.”
“She was switched into Slytherin, so clearly there is something else there that we didn’t count on.”
“I wouldn’t put it past her to pull something like this off.” Several Slytherin heads nodded at this statement.
“I agree. I mean we have been playing pranks on her for weeks now, she was bound to retaliate in some way. I mean what did you think, that she was just going to sit around while we tortured her?” Theo said.
“Hey do you think the alarm trick was her too?” A little first year asked.
“It’s perfectly plausible.” Blaise muttered as he started to pace the newly red lush carpet. He was mumbling to himself as he paced back and forth. “Someone get me my list,” he shouted as he snapped his fingers, asserting his authority and demanding attention from those around him. A tiny first year ran up to the boy’s dorm and grabbed the wrinkled piece of paper. His hands shook as he handed it to the older boy standing menacingly in the common room. Blaise snatched the paper from the boy’s hands and scanned it with his eyes.
“Okay, we still have several ideas that haven’t been used. I say we use them and teach her a lesson. No one messes with Slytherin and gets away with it.”
A small voice piped up in the back and said, “Do you guys realize how stupid you sound? Seriously?” All the Slytherin heads turned around and peered at a painting on the wall that held a small child petting a sheep with one hand and holding a lollipop with another. “I mean what is the deal. You guys have absolutely no grounds for being so mean. You just are. Does that seem right? It seems stupid if you ask me. But then again I don’t tend to underestimate people.” He popped the lollipop back into his mouth and laughed as the Slytherins all told him to shut up. But he just continued to laugh because he knew what was going to happen, he knew what they were up against, and they didn’t stand a chance. He pulled the lollipop out of his mouth with an echoing pop and skipped out of the painting, waving goodbye to the few first years who were still looking at him.
The boy and his sheep traveled through the other paintings to a large painting of an elderly man reading in a chair. He looked out of the frame to the occupants of the room and informed them of the latest development.
“They were mad. If I didn’t know you I might be worried. But I’m not.” He smiled at the two people as they chuckled to themselves.
“I wish I could have been there to see it, but I’m not exactly welcome in that room anymore.” Draco laughed.
“I know. So did they finally figure out that it was me?” Hermione questioned the boy as he sucked on his lollipop.
“Yup, they finally did. Took them long enough. They ain’t very bright.”
“That’s saying something coming from a painting of a ten year old.” Draco muttered to Hermione.
“Thank you Reggie for the update. Will you keep us posted on what you hear from them? You are our only access to the Slytherin common room.” The boy nodded his agreement as him and his sheep walked out of the frame.
“Okay, now where were we before our little friend gave us the latest update on our slippery Slytherin serpents. Oh gods that was horrible, even I will admit that.”
“I do believe that we were discussing what our next course of action.” She laughed at his horrified expression from his terrible joke.
“Oh yes. Well they will probably hit with what they consider big.” He said as he looked at the piece of parchment with a barely legible scrawl covering its page. Hermione leaned over toward him to look at the sheet. Her shampoo wafted past his nose and he breathed in her scent of gardenia and smiled. His mind racing at a realization that was slowly beginning to form in his mind.
“So what do you think they will do. Go for my physical person or my property. Personally I think they will mess with my books. At least if they understand me at all, they would know that is what I value the most. I think I could figure out the spell that was on the Monster Book of Monsters and tweak it so that it only opens for me or you if you need to use my books.” She looked at him questioningly, waiting for his reply. He looked into her chocolate brown eyes with a gleam in his. “What?” She asked hesitantly, worry growing inside her at the look he was showing. “Draco, what is it? Did I do something? Why are you looking at me like that? Do I have something on my face?” She waved her hand in front of his frozen face. “Hello? Anyone home?” She tapped his cheek with her hand, and he didn’t react. She tapped his cheek a little harder, and still no response. She placed her hands on his cheeks and pulled his face towards hers and kissed him gently on the lips. As soon as their lips touched Draco reacted, and Hermione found herself flat on her back on the couch that they were occupying, with a rather hot Draco on top of her, kissing the life out of her. His tongue tapped her lips begging for entry, and she gladly granted it to him, as she wrapped her arms tightly around his neck.
When they finally came up for air, they were slightly more disorderly. Her hair was even bushier than normal from his hands running through it. And his shirt was askew from her hands running down his back. “Wow!” They both exclaimed at the same time, both of their voices edged with a huskiness that wasn’t there before.
“What just happened?” She asked him as she sat up and adjusted her hair and clothing.
“I’m sorry. I just realized how much I have wanted you for so long, and when you kissed me I had to act on it. Do you forgive me?” He looked at her pleadingly.
She chuckled. “Draco, its okay. You just took my by surprise. There is nothing to forgive because I wanted it as much as you did.” She sighed at his foolishness.
“Good. Well, I’m gonna go to bed. Night.” He said as he stood up kissed her on the forehead and went to his room. All the way hoping that he could maintain his control long enough to get into his room and not go back and jump the head girl who was still sitting in their common room.
Hermione stayed seated, raising her hand to her lips recounting the kiss that they had shared. And thinking about what she was going to do about Draco Malfoy.
