The Exam
Harry, Hermione, Ron and Ginny were kept busy most of the summer by Mrs. Weasley. Just like it was at Grimmauld Place, they were constantly cleaning out old rooms so they would be suitable for people to live in. Dusting, cleaning out infestations, everything, they couldn’t wait to go back to school.
“What time is our apparation test tomorrow?” Ron asked getting ready for bed.
Harry grabbed the Ministry letter off the dresser and read:
Dear Mr. Potter
I’m writing to notify you that your apparation exam is on
the fourth of August at 10:30 am, on the 6th floor of the
Ministry of Magic.
Sincerely,
Doris Dalton
Head of Apparation Testing Department
Ministry of Magic
“ten thirty in the morning,” Harry replied placing the letter back onto the dresser.
“It had to be in the morning didn’t it?” Ron mumbled turning over and falling asleep.
Harry smiled, climbed into bed and fell asleep.
“Harry! Ron! Wake up this instant!” Hermione shouted at them ripping open the curtains letting the sunshine spill into the room and fall over their beds and faces.
Harry and Ron just turned over so their backs were facing the window and pulled he blankets over their heads. Just then Ginny walked into the room.
“Here let me take one of those Ginny, thank you.” Hermione said, “You get Ron, I’ll get Harry.”
“Talk a little louder Hermione I don’t think they heard you,” Ginny said sarcastically.
“Trust me I don’t think they did,” she said approaching Harry’s bed. “Okay on the count of three, one…two…three.”
Hermione ripped the blankets off Harry and dumped the pail of water Ginny brought her on Harry.
“What the hell!” Harry yelled jumping gout of bed.
“Bloody Hell Ginny, What are you doing?” Ron exclaimed also jumping out of bed.
“Getting you two up, we’ve finally succeeded after fifteen minutes,” Hermione snapped. “Now come on and get dressed we have twenty minuets to get to the Ministry of Magic for our exams and were going by Floo powder.”
With that both Hermione and Ginny stalked out of the room
“Nice girlfriend Harry,” Ron joked.
“Yeah isn’t she?” he agreed sarcastically.
Ron looked down at himself, he was practically drenched from head to toe in water. Glancing over a Harry he noticed he was too.
“It had to be a whole pail of water, not a little bit.” Ron said pulling his wet shirt over his head and throwing it on the floor.
“Yeah well, maybe we should listen to them,” Harry said grabbing his robes from his trunk.
Ten minutes later Ron and Harry entered the kitchen and sat down.
“It’s about time you two decided to get up,” Mrs. Weasley said entering the kitchen.
“Yeah, well they dumped water on us,” Ron said glaring at the girls.
“I am perfectly aware of what they did as I told them to it,” Mrs. Weasley said grabbing the bag of Floo Powder. “Now come on let’s go all of you, yes you to Ginny you can wait with me.”
Twenty minutes later Harry was standing in a big empty room with a short, plump, bald man.
“All right Harry, that was good, now remember try to get inside the circle,” the man instructed.
Harry focused on the circle that was in the middle of the room and turned on the spot. Harry vanished with a loud crack and when Harry re-appeared he was standing beside the circle.
“All most, much closer that time. Let’s try that again, okay,” the instructor said.
Harry walked back to the outside of the room. He concentrated hard on the three D’s, Destination, the circle in the middle, Determination and Deliberation. He’d been trying to get inside the circle marked in the middle of the room for the past ten minutes, doing better with every try.
“Okay Harry try it again,” the man said.
Harry concentrated very hard, turned on the spot and dissaparated. Clapping filled the room as Harry appeared. He looked down and saw that was inside the circle.
“Try that once more” the man said.
Once again Harry turned on the spot and ended up inside the circle marked in the middle of the room.
“Very good Mr. Potter, now for the last bit of it, we’re going to apparate to the waiting room, the room you were in when I came to get you,” the man said.
Harry nodded.
“On the count of three, one…two…three.”
Two loud cracks filled the room, and Harry and the instructor appeared in the waiting room, giving Mrs. Weasley, Ginny, Hermione and Ron a bit of a scare.
“Good job Mr. Potter, you did very well. Now here I present you with your apparation license. Good day,” The man said.
He then turned around and walked out of the room.
“Good job mate,” Ron said slapping him on the back. “But Hermione and I passed our exams before you.”
Harry just smiled.
Half an hour later they were all in Ron’s and Harry’s room. Harry was looking through his potions book only half listening to what everyone else was talking about.
“So looking forward to going to school for the last time?" Hermioen asked coming to sit beside Harry on his bed.
Harry shruged, "duno, like you said it is for the last time and I get to think about the unavoidable confrontation with a certain someone that was predicted to happen before I was even born," Harry said.
Hermione placed her hand on his arm, "Oh Harry, don't let that ruin this. Yes it is unavoidable, but we'll be there for you the rest of the way, just as we have been there for you till now."
Harry normally would have protested about them joining him, but he was just in not mood what-s0-ever to get into an agument with them.
"What about you Ron, excited?" Hermione asked turing to Ron.
"Well I remember back when I was a little kid before I came to Hogwarts, that my brother's would come home and talk of their tales they had that year and everytime they did I would become less and less patient for my time to come, I just couldn't wait to be able to go to Hogwarts. then my letter came, well It took a few days for the news that I was finally going to Hogwarts to sink in, and I started to get a little nervous," Ron laughed a little. "Though it didn't help with all the crazy stories Fred and George were telling me. The first day I was scared and for the first time, I had not wanted to go to Hogwarts, now, now I don't want to leave, my fondest memories were made at Hogwarts and I guess some of my worst, but I don't think about them. I guess I don't know how I feel."
"That's the way we all are Ron, I can't be helped," Hermione said.
"Will you three cut it out, you're not makiong me feel any better knowing that next year I'm by myself,"Ginny said coming into the room.
The three smiled.
"Come Hermione, Mum want's you and me," Ginny said.
"Okay be down in a minute," Hermione said getting up off the bed.
Hermione gave Harry a quick kiss and left the room.
