I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
The need for air
A/N: Sorry about the short-ness but I think since I’m trying to write every day that its not too bad.
Chapter 5: The need for air
Hermione couldn’t hear anything hell, she didn’t want to. All she wanted to do was crawl into a dark corner and never come out. Unfortunately she didn’t see that happening… ever. Professor McGonagall pushed her way into the enclosed area and sat on the edge of the bed, Albus entered a minute later.
Albus smiled gently at the young girl laying curled on her side watching them. “Ah, I hope your heads feeling better dear.”
Hermione frowned, “My head?”
Minerva smiled this time, patting her favorite students leg. “You hit your head pretty badly when you fell. Knocked you out cold.”
“Oh,” was Hermione’s response. “Um… I’m sorry for causing such a commotion in the Great Hall Professors.”
Albus chuckled, “You had no intentions of doing it child, there is no reason for you to apologize. You can not help some things. Especially not your body’s reaction to stress or shock.”
Hermione longed to bury her head underneath the covers. “Professor Snape told you then?”
“Of course he did.” Albus paused in order to collect his thoughts. “If your are indeed the child of Geoffrey Weasley, there are many things that need to be discussed.”
Minerva stood uncomfortably, “There is a spell that, one can use to determine parentage…would you mind terrible if I were to try it on you. That way we can be sure whether or not you are Hermione Granger, or Hermione Wallace.”
“Wallace…” Hermione’s chest tightened and her nose began to burn as tears threatened to spill over her cheek. “I guess so.”
Minerva took a hold of Hermione’s wrist and turned it upright to face her. “Matriarca revealia.” A glow or red and orange sparks flew from Hermione’s raised arm. The sparks formed to display a family crest. The crest itself had an arm in the middle wielding a sword of some sort.
A sullen look crossed Minerva’s face, while Albus had to fight away the pleased look that wanted to plaster itself permanently to his countenance.
“Well, what does it mean?” Hermione asked as her patience began to wear thin.
“It means that you are a Wallace, that is their family crest. Which means that you are Hermione Elizabeth Wallace.” A voice sneered from a short distance away.
Hermione’s eyes snapped to where her Potions Professor stood watching them with disdain.
Albus shot a glance over his shoulder at Severus, giving him a scolding glare. “Hermione, your biological great-grandfather will need to be informed of this new discovery. There are many consequence of your being found that need to be worked out. As it is you are about to enter a family that has already designated many tasks to you. If you had grown up in the Wallace family you would already be prepared to take on your future responsibilities, but you didn’t and therefore you must make many adjustments within the next few weeks, perhaps even months.”
Hermione was looking at the ceiling silently, “I understand sir, can I go to my dormitory now?”
“Of course, but only if Madame Pomfrey says your fine to go.”
Severus snorted and watched with hate filled eyes as both the headmaster and the headmistress coddled the silly chit. If he thought he hated the Granger girl before….well there was more room for him to despise the…Wallace in her as well. And if he thought he could stand living the rest of his life as a muggle, then he would snap his wand, but as it was he couldn’t, and that meant that he had to rely on her if he wanted to keep his wand. He hated his family and hers equally for putting them in this situation. Oh hell he needed to get out! He needed air!
