Seneco watched from the shadows of a corridor in the castle as a group of Slytherin students walked by. He was glad for the talent he had of hiding even when he was in plain sight. This entire castle thrilled him to no end. He wanted to explore every nitch, nook, and cranny that he could possibly find. He wanted also to speak with the students here, but since he knew that wasn’t wise, he would have to content himself with observing for the present time.
He slid from his hiding space and out onto the ledge of a window that was nearby. He gazed down at the ground many stories below him and glanced around sheepishly. He couldn’t see how anyone would possibly see him, so he released his hold on the window frame and began to plummet towards the ground below. He tore away his robes, revealing that he wore a light, baggy pair of black pants. His loose crimson shirt flapped in the breeze and was overlaid by a black vest. At the last moment, what appeared to be a cloak whipping around on his back unfurled to reveal that it was indeed an enormous pair of black, leathery wings. With a mighty downward swoop he rose into the air, bringing up a knee to better catch his momentum. Behind him, his long black tail whipped in the wind and he laughed as he swirled around the castle, bringing his hands up to touch his mask.
He blinked suddenly and lowered his hands, landing on the roof with a sigh. Even with no students around, he simply couldn’t bring himself to remove his mask. He folded the green robe he still had under his arm and hugged it to his chest as he squeezed his eyes shut. No, he would never remove his mask, even alone.

“Did you see that?” Hermione gawked as the other students crowded around them and several dashed down the hall.
“Yeah, it looked like a… dragon? Or something.” Ron sputtered, making his way out of the crowd with Harry and Hermione.
“It couldn’t have been a dragon! It was far too small and had human legs.” Hermione scoffed. The trio had been walking down the hall when a flash at the window had caught their attention. It looked as though something had been plummeting, and when they dashed to look, it flew by the window quite swiftly. “Could that have been Seneco, Harry?”
Harry shook his head a little before he shrugged his book bag over his shoulder, “I don’t know, to be honest. He didn’t have wings or a tail when I met him, but he was wearing a really thick robe, so I don’t know if that means much. He could have had them under his robes. It kind of looked like him.”
“I bet it was him.” Hermione nodded, “But how could anyone have wings and a tail like a dragon? I have never read about any magical creature like that.”
“But You-Know-Who isn’t exactly normal looking, ‘mione.” Ron commented slowly, scrunching his nose in thought, “I mean, if this Seneco is his son he must not look normal.”
“But Voldemort didn’t have a tail or wings either. I wonder what his mother was… err… who his mother was that is.” Harry commented softly, looking at his friends, “I want to talk to him again. To ask him some things, but I don’t exactly know how to get to him because he is in Snape’s rooms all the time.”
“Professor Snape, Harry!” Hermione said in exasperation, “Well, obviously if that was him he doesn’t stay in the dungeons all the time. I’ve got a few questions for him myself, and I’m not paranoid to go to Professor Snape’s dungeons.” She looked at them and nodded, “I’ll go and ask Professor Snape about him even.”
“Are you sure about that, ‘mione? I mean, sure you’re always defending him, but it isn’t the same as going and talking to the greasy git.” Ron whispered, his eyes wide as though Hermione were heading to war.
“Stop it, Ron! You too Harry! I’ll go myself!” Hermione scoffed and brushed past her friends, her bushy hair bounding behind her.
Ron sighed and look at his messy haired friend skeptically, “I bet she doesn’t even make it past the front door.”
Harry could only laugh softly and walk on towards the front doors where they could head out to practice Quidditch.

Severus was rubbing his forehead slowly when a knock came to his door. His current project was to tackle the fourth year essays that had been turned in that day. He narrowed his eyes and rose from his desk, going and opening his door. His eyebrows lifted when he realized the face that was looking at him adamantly was that of Hermione Granger. “Is there something I can do for you, Miss Granger?” He muttered, dropping his voice into its lowest, silkiest form. He couldn’t help melting the girl just a little.
Hermione flushed a little but didn’t look down from the Professor’s dark eyes, “I’ve wanted to ask you something, Professor Snape. Something about Seneco.”
“Of course Potter would have told you by now. Come inside. I’m not promising that I will answer your questions, but I will listen to what you need to say.” Severus murmured, stepping aside and letting the girl into his rooms as he close the door, his black eyes grazing along her rounded bottom, “Have a seat, Miss Granger.” He waved to a chair opposite of his desk and went to sit behind the heavy, dark maple.
“Thank you, Professor. If I ask anything too intruding to Seneco’s privacy that you know he would not appreciate you saying, please stop me. Still, I have so many questions I have a feeling you will be stopping me quite a bit.” Hermione said carefully. She was not certain yet how to approach the whole situation.
“I doubt there has ever been a moment in your life in which you didn’t have an inexhaustible amount of questions, Miss Granger.” Severus smirked; enjoying the slight frown Hermione gave him.
“Well, Professor, I suppose my most obvious question would be why does he refer to you as ‘Master’?” Hermione stated, folding her hands into her lap.
Severus leaned back into his chair, pressing the tips of his fingers together as he considered her question for a moment. “Seneco calls me Master because that is what I have been to him his whole life. The Dark Lord appointed me as his caretaker and instructor. There was a time Seneco had been tempted to call me Father, but the Dark Lord quelled that in him as soon as it escaped his lips. He insisted his son refer to me by some other term, so Seneco settled upon Master.”
“Why is Seneco here?” Hermione continued.
“That is one of those questions I’m going to half to stop you at. Needless to say, he came to speak with me, that is all you need to know.” Severus replied instantly.
Hermione nodded and laced her fingers together, her eyebrows drawing up together in consideration, “His relationship with Harry’s parents was odd, it seems. There was a lot missing to his story and-“
“That is enough on that topic.” Severus interrupted the ginger haired woman, “That is something I cannot address. What Seneco told Potter is something between himself and Potter. It is none of your concern, or mine for that matter.”
“What is Seneco? We saw him today flying by the castle windows, so obviously he isn’t human, but I have never read about any other creature quite like him.” Hermione’s next question caused Severus’ eyes to narrow slightly.
“Seneco is not human, but he is like no other creature you will find. That is all I can say. He is not an animal, and you would be wise to speak to him respectfully should the two of you ever meet. That is enough on Seneco, I’m afraid. You are delving too deeply into matters Seneco himself must answer, and he is not currently in my rooms, as you have already informed me.” Severus sighed, “I will need to speak to him again about maintaining a low profile. If you would like to speak with Seneco himself, why don’t you come by after your last classes of the day, after dinner? He could use the company…” And so could I, Severus thought, though he nearly kicked himself. Why he had invited the know-it-all down to his rooms so easily baffled him. He certainly shouldn’t have, but when she nodded in affirmative there was a small part of him that fluttered with slight joy.
“I suppose I will have to do just that. Good day, Professor.” Hermione nodded, rising and pacing out, giving her hips just a little more sway than they usually had.
When the door shut, Severus sat back blinking slowly, “Surely, I imagined that.”
