Chapter 5-Woah baby...
Author Note: Neith, thank you for reviewing, I realize that she does seem a little superhero-ish right now, but believe me, she’s not, not at all, I have SO much left. The reason she isn’t as famous as Harry is because the people in the US don’t know she’s alive,
Trust me; she is more of a catalyst, a helpful addition, when it really gets down to it. Just stick with me; this is the first one I’ve written ever.
And also, I said point blank that she was not supposed to be me. If you recall, I said that I like my name so much I had to use it.
****Also, read through it again, you’ll find some small edits in the text, I read over it myself and wasn’t as pleased as I thought I was with it.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the Harry Potter; otherwise I’d be rich, no duh.
WOAH BABY...
Harry and Ron were to go with Hermione for the break, Amber was invited as well, but she did not want to leave Draco all alone for Christmas at the school.
“I promise I’ll write, ok?” She reassured them as they left. Harry was reluctant to be separated from her, but if anything were to happen to either himself or her, he knew Dumbledore would make sure the other was safe.
As the break went on, Amber sensed some foreboding of what was going to happen when school recommenced, so when
one evening she and Draco were kissing passionately, she did not stop it when things began to progress further. She couldn’t think of any reason to stop, and she didn’t want to. Draco and Amber fell asleep together wrapped in each other’s naked arms. Amber felt peaceful and perfectly safe there. She never wanted to leave them, but she knew that she would have to soon. She just didn’t know when.
Harry was sitting with the Weasleys and Hermione for dinner one night when he felt it. He knew that it was going to happen when he got back to school. He just didn’t know what. Hermione looked over at him and she saw it on his face. Harry removed himself from the table and Hermione followed.
“Harry what’s wrong?”
“I need your help Hermione. When we get back to school, I need your help.”
“Of course, anything, tell me.”
“I can feel it Hermione. Something is going to happen when we get back to school. I don’t know what it will be, or when it’s going to happen. But I just know it, and I need you to help me get ready. You’re the best researcher I know.” Hermione’s heart lifted as he said this.
“And here I thought you were ditching me for Amber.” She said.
“She and I just understand each other Mione. Don’t worry, you’re still the best.” He said and hugged her. Ron walked into the room then and smiled.
“See this is more like it. The three of us, together again, we don’t need Amber.” Ron said when Harry gave him a funny look he continued. “Look, I like her, I really do, she’s amazing, but since she’s been here things have changed, hell, she’s with Malfoy of all people!”
“He does have a point Harry. Things really have changed, and I’m not sure I like it.” Hermione replied.
“Guys, I realize that she’s a bit odd, and her school did move faster than ours, but guys, I think that she can help. And besides, things are going to happen and we need all the help we can get.” Harry finished. Ron and Hermione then left to take a walk together. As much as Ron liked Amber, he just couldn’t help but wish she hadn’t come here.
As the classes got back into swing, Amber couldn’t help but not feel herself. Her scar hurt and her stomach was doing flip flops constantly, she was afraid to eat anything for fear it would just come back up ten minutes later. She didn’t quite understand what was going on until one morning when she was talking with Hermione on the latest book she’d read.
“So, it says here that witches, in their first few months of pregnancy can still get their period because of the sudden infusion of extra magic, so they must make sure to take precautions and contraceptives when engaging in sexual activity. The way to know if the period is a real menstruation or a magic one, note the side effects, as opposed to a regular monthly menstrual cycle, the magical one will give the witch more nausea and less cramping. The witch will feel more disoriented and not bleed heavily, more in short bursts where there may be hours where she does not bleed at all.”
“What.” Amber gulped. “Hermione, I’ll be back, I just remembered I forgot something up my trunk.” She eyed the retreating girl suspiciously, but put her thoughts aside and kept reading.
“Oh please, you have got to be kidding me. That would just be my luck…” She thought to herself as she waited for the potion to give its results. “Don’t let me be pregnant. Don’t let me be pregnant.” She chanted silently. She read over the instructions carefully so as not to make a mistake. If it turned a distinctly pale blue, she was pregnant, any other color, she was not. It seemed simple. But as she watched it swirl and boil, changing color from blue to white, from green to pink. She could hardly stand it. Then it stopped. The potion had gone still and Amber couldn’t tear her eyes away.
“Oh no.” She said and slumped down on the ground in the girl’s bathroom.
“Hermione, I thought you were studying with Amber.” Harry said as he entered the library.
“So did I, but we got twenty minutes into it and she ran off, claiming to have forgotten something. I’m sure she’s just off with Malfoy.”
“I just saw Malfoy in the hall with Blaise.” Harry replied.
“Then I don’t know where she is. But I hope she doesn’t expect me to do all the work for her.” Harry groaned and left, looking for Amber. He walked back into the hallway and saw Draco.
“Malfoy!” He called. The blonde turned to look at him. “Have you seen Amber in the last half hour or so?”
“Last I saw her she was headed off to study with Granger, why did something happen?”
“Well, she ran off, said she forgot something and hasn’t returned yet.”
“She probably did forget something and can’t find it. Don’t worry about it.” Draco said casually. Harry calmed a bit and nodded.
After a while Amber got up and started throwing things around the room. Tears were falling down her cheeks as she hurled her books and cauldron through the air. She was pissed off. Shit was always happening to her to screw her life up and she was tired. She just wanted to go to bed and never wake up. It hit her like a ton of bricks the meaning of the dream she’d been having all year.
“This is the baby.” She placed her hands on her stomach. “If I don’t tell anyone then He won’t ever know.” She decided. Tired, she sprawled out on the floor to rest her eyes for a moment and promptly fell asleep. That being the position Myrtle found her in six hours later.
“Oh what a pretty little thing you make. I suppose Harry would like to know that you’re here.” Myrtle flew off to fetch Harry, who went running as he had finally got worried about her.
“Amber!” He said when he arrived. Her eyes fluttered open.
“Hello Harry.” She said quietly.
“So this is where you’ve been all day. Malfoy and I have been worried sick.”
“I thought I lost something in here the other day, needed to find it, got tired, and laid down for a bit.” She said gathering her things.
“What did you lose?” He asked glancing around at the evident mess she had tried to clean up.
“I can’t remember now, it’s the strangest thing really.” She lied. Harry walked her back to the common room where Draco was pacing outside.
“Draco.” She said calmly. His head shot up at the sound of her voice.
“Where have you been all day!” He demanded.
“I fell asleep in the girl’s bathroom.” She said kissing him gently and heading into the common room.
“You should see the mess she left behind. It’s as if she was attacked in there, but I don’t think she was.”
“What do you think it was then?”
“I think something upset her enough to make her throw the stuff around. That’s what I think. But I don’t have clue what it could be.” The two young men looked at each other with concern and confusion on evident on their faces.
Suddenly, as if they had turned their backs it was February and nearly Valentine’s Day. Dumbledore arranged for the curfew to be extended an extra two hours that night so students could celebrate the holiday with their boyfriend or girlfriend, however he did restrict this extended curfew to inside the castle.
But, Draco couldn’t think of a thing to do for Amber. Every romantic thing he could think of he knew she wouldn’t like, she didn’t like over the top extravagant gifts like he was so used to giving nor did she want a grand display of love.
Ron was having a similar problem as he had forgotten that Valentine’s Day was coming soon. It wasn’t until Harry reminded him the day before that it occurred to him to do something.
“Harry what do I do? Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and I haven’t anything planned.”
“So don’t have anything planned just be spontaneous. Shower her with compliments all day long and then at night, do whatever it is your heart tells you.” Amber suggested having overheard the conversation. Ron looked at her pointedly before thinking about what she said and walking off.
“Amber, I think we need to talk.” Harry sat on the coffee table in front of the armchair she occupied in front of the fireplace.
“What about?” She queried.
“You.” She looked at him and raised an eyebrow.
“What about me?” She smiled.
“You tell me. You’re hiding something.”
“No I’m not. Why would I be hiding anything?”
“That’s what I would like to know. Talk to me Amber, I thought we were friends, you can talk to me.” Harry placed a hand on her knee and squeezed it gently.
“Look Harry, I’m fine, I have no secrets and I don’t need you questioning me like you’re my mother or something.” She made a move to get up.
“Is that why the girls can hear you throwing up in the bathroom, because you’re fine?” Amber turned to him angrily.
“Look, I don’t need you butting into my business. You have no right to. All you and I are doing is trying to kill the same man. That’s it Harry. You should know better than anyone the safety in keeping things private.” She stormed out of the common room and cast an invisibility spell over herself before storming down the halls.
*If I don’t want anyone to fucking know about you then I’m not going to tell them.* She thought, her arms wrapped protectively around her stomach. *If they don’t know then they can’t stop me from killing him. If nobody knows about you then He can’t take you away.* She began to cry again and ran out of the castle to run through the forest.
She did not return until the next morning. She waltzed into the great hall covered in leaves and grass. Everyone turned to look at her and when Draco saw her he rushed over.
“Amber what have you done?” He asked worried.
“I went out for a walk last night.” She replied smiling at him. She kissed him and went to eat her breakfast. He followed
and sat next to her.
“Where did you go for a walk? You’re filthy.”
“The forest. I needed to run; I guess I just fell asleep.” She shrugged and started piling food onto her plate.
“You went into the Forbidden Forest alone?”
“I can take care of myself Draco, I’m not incompetent.”
“I know you’re not incompetent, but it’s the Forbidden Forest, you know students aren’t allowed in there.”
“I wasn’t a student when I went in.” She said.
“Oh, I see and you think by going as one of your cats it’s ok.”
“Yes.” She replied stubbornly. There was something off about her lately, but he couldn’t place it. Harry nudged him and the two went into the hall.
“Malfoy, please tell me you’ve noticed something weird with her.”
“What’s going on?”
“I haven’t a clue; she’s hiding something and got really angry with me when I asked her about it. It’s weird, I can’t place it, but there is something off about her.” Draco and Harry looked into the dining hall at the young woman who was eating a great deal of food.
That evening Draco went to get Amber so they could have a nice Valentine’s Day together. When he arrived at the Gryffindor common room Harry opened up and ushered him inside quickly.
“What’s this about Potter, I’m here for Amber.”
“Follow me.” Harry led Draco up to the girl’s room where Amber was curled into a ball on her bed. She had her arms wrapped around her stomach and she was completely naked. The two boys stared at her, Harry with concern and Draco with confusion.
“I don’t get it. She knows it’s Valentine’s Day, what is she doing sleeping?”
“She’s not sleeping. She’s purring.” Harry said quietly. Amber’s head jerked up at the sound of their voices.
“What are you doing in here?” She hissed at them.
“Amber, we were going to go out tonight, do you remember, you and me, Valentine’s Day?” Draco pleaded. Amber sniffed the air and calmed immediately.
“Draco!” She cried. “Yes, let me just get dressed.” She smiled brightly as she went to her trunk and removed some clothing.
Draco and Harry looked at each other and went out to the common room. Draco sat in a chair stunned.
“I don’t understand it. It’s as if she’s gone feral.”
“She has.” Hermione said quickly from her seat in front of the fireplace. “Look here, it says that any witch who’s animagus form is a cat can sometimes gain traits resembling a cat, like going into heat. Her case must be worse since she has two of them.”
“So you’re saying that my girlfriend is in heat?” Draco whined. Hermione looked at him.
“No. If she were in heat it would correspond with her period. Amber hasn’t gotten hers this month.” Hermione said pointedly. “I’m saying that Amber is acting like any other cat would; she’s protecting her baby.” Draco’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped.
“Wait. You’re saying that Amber is pregnant?” Harry asked.
“Look, she’s been throwing up almost every morning, she’s become secretive and suspicious, she’s moody and she hasn’t gotten her period. I’m saying that’s what it looks like.” Draco looked up to see Amber coming down the stairs. She was dressed in a black knee length flared skirt and a crimson wrap top. She sauntered over to Draco and sat in his lap.
“So baby, what are we doing tonight?” He just stared up at her. She raised an eyebrow. “What, why are you looking at me like that?”
“Amber, are you pregnant?” Draco asked carefully. Amber laughed at him.
“Where would you get an idea like that?”
“Doesn’t matter where we got the idea from Amber. Are you pregnant?” Harry asked. Amber got tense and defensive.
“No. I’m not pregnant. And I’m not hiding anything from you, why must you keep attacking me like this.” Amber got up went back to her room. Draco stood and followed.
“Amber, I’m sorry, it’s just, you have been acting weird lately. And I’m worried.” As she noticed the concern in his voice, her need to make her mate happy overtook her anger and she wrapped her arms around him.
“I know you’re worried, but I promise, there is nothing to worry about.” She looked into his eyes and kissed him deeply. “Okay?”
Trust me; she is more of a catalyst, a helpful addition, when it really gets down to it. Just stick with me; this is the first one I’ve written ever.
