the plan
The next morning, Harry woke with a start. He looked around the room, wondering how he got there. Then memories of the last night ran through his head. The fight between himself and Hermione; The Dursley’s dead; Being back at Grimmauld; Making love to Hermione...all of the memories came flooding back to him. Harry climbed out of bed and changed into a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt. ‘I can’t believe that I went that far with ‘Mione. She will be expecting us to get together, but I can’t. With the Love Protection that my mother had over me, I am in more danger than before. She can’t get hurt. Oh, God, I love her. Last night was amazing, but it will not last forever. My heart would not take it if she dies too. I have to find a way to get her mind off of me.’ Then it hit him...’Ron’. He sat down at the desk in to room and started to make a plan to get Ron and Hermione together. He had to, for her. He took out a spare bit of parchment and wrote:
My plan:
He didn’t know where to start. So he sat at the desk looking at the parchment before he started writing ten minutes later.
1. Tell Hermione that I do not love her.
‘But you do love her.’ said a voice in Harry’s mind. “I know I love her, but that’s just it...I can’t love her.” he cried out loud to answer his stubborn thoughts. ‘But how do I show that I do not love her. I have to be with someone else....but whom?’ he went through the possible people that he could love over Hermione, but couldn’t think of anyone. He decided to think over that and come back later with a better plan.
Harry got up from the desk and get some breakfast. The Weasley’s would be there soon. That would take Hermione’s attention away from Harry for the day. Just as he was making his way into the living room, he saw Lupin sitting on the armchair reading The Prophet. He needed to talk to someone and since Siri...he was not there Remus would have to do.
“Professor Lupin,” said Harry quietly so not to startle him.
“Harry, just call me Remus or Lupin. I haven’t been your professor for more than two years.” he said looking up from his paper.
“Alright, Remus. I have to talk to you....it is kind of important.” Harry started.
“I am guess that this has something to do with what happened between you and Hermione last night?” he asked raising a brow, still looking everywhere else other than Harry.
“Yeah, but it is not what you think. You see,” said Harry sitting on the couch across from Remus. “... what happened between Hermione and I was not supposed to happen. She’s in danger, you know that, and I can’t let her be killed. I care for her as a friend, but I do not love her.” he finished lamely, knowing that Remus would know that he was lying.
“Are you telling me that you slept with your ‘friend’ and you don’t love her?! What is wrong with you? What would make you do such a daft thing?!” he said, while his voice was rising.
“Well she suggested to take my mind off of things for the night. I couldn’t turn her down because then she would hate me.” said Harry, knowing that with every word he was starting to sound stupid and careless.
“Harry, you can’t just sleep with someone that offers themselves up to you. That girl loves you, don’t ask me why, but she does. And if you turn away from her now, she will never forgive you. You are in too deep to go back now.” said Remus while rubbing his temples. They were too much into the conversation to notice that Hermione was standing on the stairs listening to the entire conversation.
“ I know that I can’t just sleep with anyone, Remus, but I have known Hermione for almost six years. But I do not love her...” as soon as he said it his mind went into overdrive. ‘YES, you do love her! Stop lying to yourself! If you deny her love now, you will never love her again, is that what you want?’ Another voice came into his mind, ‘If that is what it takes to to keep her alive, then yes, I do not want to love her ever again.’ But his thoughts were cut short when he heard someone stomping down the stairs. Hermione.
“YOU SON OF A BITCH!!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT I SLEPT WITH YOU!!!” she yelled. She slapped Harry, hard. “Why? Why do you do this to me. I saw it in your eyes last night. You wanted me, and now you regret it? FINE!!! If that’s the way you want it, Potter, then that is bloody fine by me!” And with that she ran from the room and up the stairs. A part of Harry wanted to run up to her, but he thought better of it. ‘It’s all for the best.’ he thought.
“Look at what you have done!” said Remus. “I am disappointed in you, Harry. You just broke her spirit.” he looked at Harry one last time, rose from his chair and went upstairs to check on Hermione.
Harry sat back into the couch and closed his. One tear fell down his cheek. ‘What have I done? I just hurt the only person I loved in this world and now, I have lost that.’ he thought. Help fell asleep thinking of Hermione.
***********
All was quiet in the house, Harry fell asleep in the living room on the couch. Quite unexpectedly, there was a sudden WHOOSH in the room. Harry jumped up at the noise to see green flames in the fireplace. He then noticed that he was looking at a tall gangly redhead. Ron smiled down at his friend and held out a hand to shake.
“It good to see you, mate. I thought something really bad happened when Fawkes had a letter from Dumbledore for mum.” he said. Harry didn’t have time to answer as the rest of the Weasley’s came through the fire.
“Oh Harry, it’s good to see you, dear!” said Mrs. Weasley walking across the room to give Harry a motherly hug.
“It’s good to see you too, Mrs. Weasley” said Harry while trying to pull away from Molly’s bear hug. Harry glanced around at the remainder of the Weasley’s. Fred, George, Arthur and Bill were all waving furiously at him. Harry’s eyes fell upon Ginny. She wouldn’t make eye contact with him and she looked very upset. He tried to say ‘hello’ to her, but she walked right passed him and ran up the stairs without even acknowledging that he was even in the room.
“What’s wrong with her?” Harry asked Ron with concern.
“I don’t know, mate. She got a letter from Hermione this morning and has been in an angry state all day.” said Ron. “Don’t worry about her, she will get over it. Hey, can we eat? I’m starving!” he said while rubbing his stomach.
Harry laughed nervously and led the family down into the kitchen. Molly set out to work immediately. Soon, the table was laden with food as they say down to eat. Hermione and Ginny entered the room with angry looks in their eyes, and sat down to eat at the opposite end of the table from Harry. When they finished, they got up, thanked Molly for the meal and left the room without another word.
Harry looked back down at his food. He now knew why Ginny was upset with him. He knew that Hermione would go to her best friend for advice. He had to tell Ron what was going on. Even if it was going to cost him his other best friend.
“Ron is it okay if we go upstairs and talk for a minute?” asked Harry standing up from his seat. Ron looked up at his friend and nodded. They left the kitchen and headed up the stairs. They passed Hermione’s room. Harry stopped when her heard his name being said on the other side of the door by an angry female’s voice. He had enough. Harry knocked on the door and went inside without waiting for an answer. Ron followed.
“Harry! Get out of here, NOW!” yelled Ginny. Hermione had her back to Harry and was sitting on the bed.
“No, I need to talk to Hermione, without your help.” Harry said. Ginny got up and walked to Harry and slapped him. Harry felt the sting in his face, but continued to walk to Hermione on the bed. “You can continue to hit me, but I am not going anywhere, I need to speak to her, but I want to do it alone. I can’t say this in front of you!”
“Say what, Harry?” asked Ron
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell him, Potter,” started Ginny. “...after all, you did fuck his best friend! He deserves an explanation!”
Silence. Then,
“WHAT?!!!” yelled Ron glaring daggers at Harry. “Tell me that she is making this up Harry.”
“She’s not.” said Hermione from the bed.
“So that’s why she has been upset at lunch and why Ginny has ben upset all day?!” asked Ron. He saw the guilty look on Harry’s face, but didn’t wait for a response. Ron took two strides across the room to Harry and punched him in the face.”I’m gonna kill you!!!” he shouted. As Harry stood up, Ron struck Harry again...this time in the stomach. This winded Harry as he fell to the ground. Harry knew that he deserved this beating and he was not going to stop his friend. But the beating didn’t last long.
“Stop!” shouted Hermione. Ron stopped his fist in mid air from hitting Harry again. “As much as I am angry with Harry, and as much as I want to beat his face in, it is not entirely his fault. I was the one that came up with the idea of us coming up here to sleep with each other. I wanted to calm him down. And until now I only saw what I wanted. But I don’t want it anymore.” she finished, grabbed her trunk ad left the room in tears.
Hermione had enough and wanted to be away from everyone, including Howarts. ‘I will let Albus know that I will not be returning next year. I will transfer to another school.’ she thought as she said “Granger Manor” into the green flames in the fireplace.
***********
Later that evening, Harry sat up in bed. He couldn’t sleep. Who would be able to after what happened in a matter of two days?! Harry got up from the bed and moved to the desk in the corner of his godfather’s room. Harry grabbed a sheet of parchment and a quill out of one of the drawers of the desk and started writing a long letter to Hermione. A letter that will one day be sent to her, but this was not the time.
Dear Hermione,
Words cannot express my sorrow. I hurt the one person that was trying to love me the way that I needed to be loved. No matter what you say, I deserved that beating that Ron gave me. I’m just like a poison, once in the system of someone else, I spread around and damage anything that is perfect.
When we made love that night, I celebrated my love for you. I knew right then, that I would never be able to get you out of my system. But under all of that celebration, I was scared. Scared that if we loved each other, Tom would take you away. But unfortunately, I pushed you away.
One day I truly hope that I can tell you how I really feel about you. But alas, I cannot. If I do then I condemn your life to the hands of Tom Riddle. But I will kill him Hermione, I promise you that. And when that day comes I will be able to tell you Hermione that you are to me all that a woman should be and that I dedicate my life to you always. And that if ever you are in my arms again, that will be the day that I will love you forever and so mush better than I have. Can’t you see that I was trying to keep you safe, love? If anything happened to you I could say that the sun in my life would be gone and everything would be sent into darkness. And nothing can live in darkness, my dear.
I just hope that I live to see the day when you read these words. And if it means anything to you, that night we spent together, was the best night of my life...even if it was cut short, I was able to paste your form in my head so that every time I close my eyes, I see you. I love you, Hermione Jane Granger.
Love always and forever,
Harry. The-boy-that-cannot-live-without-you
Harry folded the letter and wrote Hermione’s name on the front. He left it on the desk and went back to sleep. Hoping that one day his dreams will come true.
Little did he know the owl that was sitting on top of the wardrobe flew down to the desk, picked up the letter in her beak and flew out of the window to deliver the note.
A/N Shoot Dang! It\'s starting to sound more like a soap opera more and more....next week on the Young and the Hopeless...lol. thanks for reading, but I still need reviews to make the story better. Ponder that for a while.
