Spell Master

“Harry.”

The dark haired wizard quickly looked up and away from the window and at the doorway. There stood a timid Neville Longbottom.

“Um..do you mind if I sit with you?” He asked softly. His fear of rejection was clearly evident in his voice and in the way he rung the small parcel in his hands.

“No, of course not!” Harry smiled. Neville was probably his only friend left, in the Gryffindor House. But that was mostly due to the fact that the boy was an outcast too.

“Oh thank you, Harry!” The mousy brown haired boy cried out and sat down gratefully. “I wasn’t sure if you were going to shun me like the others this year!”

“We’re friends, Neville.” Harry assured. “Just because you’re dating a Slytherin won’t change that.”

The chubby boy smiled and nodded.

Harry smiled back. He was just glad that he wasn’t alone anymore. He hated being alone. However, Harry also knew that being seen with Longbottom wasn’t a good idea if he wanted to get back on the good side of his friends. The brown-haired boy wasn’t just shunned because he was dating a Slytherin. The chubby boy was shunned by the other Gryffindors because he was dating Blaise Zabini. Draco Malfoy’s best friend. Then to top it off, he now ran with the Slytherin Court. Harry knew that the boy didn’t believe in or condone their views, but he didn’t verbally condemn them either. Instead, he kept quite about his personal beliefs, so not to upset Draco, who for Blaise sake, graciously took him under his wing of protection. No one harassed Longbottom anymore. Even Snape backed off him, well only a tad bit. But it was still a noticeable change in the Potions Master.

“So...” The seeker began. “How was your summer?”

“Good...” Neville answered nervously as he looked around the cabin. There was a tense silence for about a minute before the boy continued the conversation. “And yours?”

“Good.” Harry answered quickly and brightly, then realized that he didn’t know what else to say. He really didn’t know Neville despite the fact that they were in the same House and in the same year. It was just that over the years, Harry mostly hung around Ron and Hermione, who were his best friends, and the twins, Dean and Seamus. Guiltily, Harry mentally admitted that he never really gave Neville a chance until *he* was the one who was shunned by the others. Actually, now that he thought about it, *no one* really gave the clumsy boy a chance in the Gryffindor House.

Until last year, no one really paid any mind to Neville. It wasn’t until he was caught kissing Zabini in the boys quidditch locker room did he start getting attention from his Gryffindor housemates. Unfortunately, the attention he received was of the negative variety.

The raven-haired boy was surprised how vicious Gryffindors could be. And not just verbally either. Neville was subjected to a terrible back lash of verbal fights and cruel pranks. Mostly from Ron, who hated all Slytherin with an unadulterated passion. Harry really didn’t blame Neville for spending all his free time in the dungeons with his boyfriend. However, what surprised everyone was that Malfoy allowed the clumsy boy to run with his Court. Then sent out a warning to everyone, in the school that whoever “fucked with Longbottom, fucked with him.”

That’s when things cooled down in the House of the Lion, but the damage was already done.

“Soooo” Harry started, not really knowing what to say. “Did you do anything special this summer?”

The boy in question tilted his head to the side and thought about it. “Well, I did go to Draco’s birthday party!”

Two raven brows went up in utter surprise, and the anger was evident in his voice when he asked. “You went to Malfoy’s birthday party?”

“Um well...yeah...” Neville looked away, almost ashamed that he went.

Harry sighed. He didn‘t mean to make the other boy feel bad. It was just that he hated Draco Malfoy with a sadistic passion. But still, the Gryffindor tried to do the right thing and took a deep breath to soothe his anger and asked. “Was it nice?” Despite who’s party it was, Harry couldn’t help himself from being a bit curious. He never had a birthday party of his own. Well, not one he could remember, anyway.

Neville smiled at the fact that Harry was being a good sport. “It was bloody wicked!” He answered excitedly.

The chubby boy had been dying to tell someone other than his grandmother. Luckily for him, she didn’t seem to mind how he droned on and on about it. She was just glad that he was finally happy. Even if the happiness came in the form of a snake. Neville was secretly miserable at Hogwarts, and in the Gryffindor House, because he was always the one everyone purposefully left out of the fun, no matter how hard he tried to be friendly and social. It was odd that the only one who noticed his sorrow, the only person willing to truly be his friend, was someone outside his House and a Slytherin, no less. And Neville was proud to say that his friend later became his boyfriend.

“Draco had invited at *least* a thousand people!” The boy continued brightly.

Harry couldn’t help from narrowing his eyes at the other boy’s use of his enemy’s name. But Neville seemed unaware of it and continued excitedly.

“And he had it in a wizard/muggle city called Ibiza! The whole place is nothing but night clubs! It was bloody awesome!”

Harry couldn’t believe his ears. “Did you say that Draco MALFOY spent his birthday in a MUGGLE town!?”

“A wizard/muggle town.” Neville corrected. “And actually his father owns the five star hotel we stayed at. And ..get this... *Draco* owns the club we partied at!” He smiled brightly at the Seekers shocked expression. “It saved them a hell of a lot of money doing it that way, believe you me!!!”

Harry shook his wild hair in disbelief. “Are you telling me that the Malfoy’s *willingly* interact with muggles? I thought they hated them?”

“They do!” Neville volunteered with wide brown eyes. “I asked Blaise about this, for it was a quandary I was perplexed with myself...” The boy began to stare, in way that showed that he was seeing the conversation in his mind’s eyes. “He said that even though they hate muggles, they don’t mind taking their money.”

“What a bunch of hypocritical gits!” Harry growled.

However, Neville didn’t notice. He just droned on. “Did you know that Draco’s a financial genius?... Blaise said that it runs in his family.”

Harry narrowed his eyes and looked at the boy across from him. “You really like Malfoy don’t you?”

Neville was startled into silence by the seekers sharp tone. It took him almost a minute before he shrugged fearfully and answered meekly. “Yeah.... I suppose... I do.”

“WHY?! HOW?!” Harry bellowed. “He tormented you for six years!”

“Five and a half.” Neville corrected softly. “But he’s.... I don’t know... He’s not that bad of a guy.... I mean to his friends, that is. Blaise said that.. ..Draco is like a snake... He only attacks when provoked.”

“Blaise said! BLAISE SAID!” Harry yelled and flayed his arms. He could take no more of the boy’s idolization of Malfoy. “So that makes it all better, hmm?... Everything he’s ever done to you, to your friends because Blaise said!.... Provoked?! Breathing to loudly could provoke that vindictive bastard!!!” Harry gave the boy a deadly glare and asked bitterly. “And I suppose you think that you’re one of *his* friends?”

Neville gave a terrified shrug but didn’t deny it.

Harry looked dumbfounded. “But he’s done so many things to hurt you! To all the Gyffindors! Remember when he tried to break your pendent in the first year?! What did you ever do to provoke him then?!!! Nothing! He was just being a miserable git!! I don’t understand you, Neville! How can you consider him a *friend* after what he‘s done to all of your *real* friends! Where is your House loyalty?!”

“He’s not that bad, Harry..... Honest.” Neville said almost ashamed that he was taking up for Malfoy even though he knew that the boy was nothing but evil to the Gyffindors. But that was the side Draco showed to them, because that was what they provoked out of him. It wasn’t until Neville was blacklisted, for falling in love, did he get to see the other side of the Slytherin and seen how true Malfoy’s statement about the *self-righteous, hypocritical Gryffindor* really was.

With his head lowered and his gaze trained on his lap, the brown-haired Gryffindor began softly. “Harry.... you say that the Gryffindors are my *real* friends?! But as I remember it.... I was always ignored or seen as a bother..... Even *you* were too busy to be my *real* friend... when you were in good favor with Ron and Hermione. It wasn’t until our *real* friends started being .....Unfriendly...” Neville and Harry both knew that the term “unfriendly” was an understatement. “Did you really give me the time of day... And even then it was only in secret....Not that I blame you, mind you....It’s just that.... I mean ...Lets just put it this way.... If I would have asked to sit here with you, in this cabin.... say... three years ago.... you would have probably told me that you were saving the seats for someone else. *Your* friends...not mine and I would have accepted your dismissal... and went to go sit with the first years, *again.*” Neville finally looked up and stared at the boy he was talking to. “You know how I know this, Harry? I know this because that is exactly what happened.”

Harry looked away ashamed, for he knew the boy spoke the truth.

But Neville continued timidly. “So you asked me if I’m Draco’s, and the rest of his Court’s, friend. Well...Besides Blaise, I don’t know how they really feel about me..... but I know this. They are more of a friend to me, than any of you guys were.”

It is said that a soft voice breaks the bone, and Harry just found out how true that statement was. The raven-haired wizard felt extremely guilt ridden. And even though he didn’t want to accept it, he knew that the boy in front of him spoke the truth. The Gryffindors usually stayed clear of Neville because the boy was so... clumsy, and his conversational skills were severely... lacking. With that in mind, Harry wondered what Blaise saw in the boy. The raven, long-haired boy usually only dated people who were extremely beautiful, like the Slytherin himself. Neville was short, and slightly overweight and more of a average, plain looking chap. Nothing really stood out about him.

When news of their relationship spread through the school, everyone accused the courtship of being some sort of Death Eater scheme, especially in the Gryffindor House. They told Neville that he should break-up with the other boy, because Blaise was using him, and that there was *no way* Blaise Zabini could be serious about him. At the time, Harry agreed because –despite the fact that Zabini was a Slytherin– Blaise was probably one of the most sought after guys in the school, from both genders. So it made no since that Neville could bag the snake when no one else could.

With his head lowered again, Neville silently got up. “Um... I guess I’ll be going now, Harry. I just dropped in to say hello. I don’t want your *friends* to catch us chatting....No need in making things worse for you than they already are.”

Harry was brought out of his thoughts and looked at the boy making his way toward the door. He then glanced out of the window. There was no one out there accept Malfoy, who was by the wall talking to his mother and Pansy waiting for him, by the train. That meant his *friends* were already on the train, they just didn’t bother looking for him. Knowing this, Harry solemnly turned his focus back toward the other outcast.

“Wait, Neville, you don’t have to go--”

If Harry was going to say anything more, he was cut off by a forceful, yet lustful attack on the boy standing in the doorway.

“Oh God, baby, I missed you so much!” Blaise breathed out after pulling back from an intense open mouth kiss. He cupped his love’s chubby cheeks and pulled him in for another intense kiss.

Harry was stunned. Though he knew about their relationship, the two teens never displayed any affection in public. That was also the reason why no one believed that Zabini could really be interested in Neville. Cleary, they were all wrong and all the reservations Harry had about the sincerity of Zabini’s intentions were gone.

Neville just stood there and melted into the kiss. When they pulled back for air, the brown-haired boy’s head tilted to the side, and he had a dreamy, happy dazed look on his face. Not even noticing Potter, Blaise gently took his boyfriend by the hand, led him back inside the cabin, sat down, and seated Neville on his lap. It was clear to Harry that the Slytherin had no clue he was in there, for the long-haired boy hadn’t taken his gaze off Neville since their first kiss.

Sitting on his boyfriend’s lap, Neville gazed into Blaise’s piercing blue eyes. “That was some hello!” He breathed out almost seductively. He had forgotten all about Harry being in the cabin. His world now only consisted of Blaise.

“Not nearly enough.” The dark haired boy purred as he raked his fingers through his love’s brown hair and pulled him down for another passionate kiss.

When the kiss became more passionate, and Slytherin’s hand started wandering and disappearing inside of Longbottom’s robe –proceeded by a lust filled moan from Neville– a flushed face Harry thought it was best to announce his presence.

“Ahem” He coughed.

But Alas, he was ignored.

Neville buck his hips and moaned again, into his boyfriend’s mouth, when Blaise found the hidden treasure he was looking for under his robes. However, the hunt was in vain because they were interrupted, but not by Harry, but by Gregory.

“Blas! You in there?” The large boy asked after he poked his head in the door.

“No, Greg, this is just my astral projection!” The flushed face, raven-haired teen spat out venomously. He did not appreciate being interrupted. “And don’t fucking call me that!”

The large boy rolled his eyes and walked in and sat down beside the two love birds It was obvious that he was ignoring the Gryffindor’s presence, on purpose.

Harry quirked a cautious brow. It was odd that they hadn’t insulted him yet.

“Ah good!” Millicent said in a relieved fluster. “You found an empty cabin.” She looked around and smiled. “And we got the biggest one too!.” She then noticed the Gryffindor but decided to ignore Potter’s presence as well.

Yes, Harry had nabbed the largest cabin on the train in hopes that he and all his friends could sit together, and hopefully reconcile. Now it seemed that because he was blacklisted, the only thing he managed to accomplish was securing a cabin for the Slytherin Court.

An eerily quite Vincent was the next to enter the cabin. He actually took a seat beside the Hogwarts Golden boy, and did it without incident.

This was just too much, and too many Slytherin, in too small a space. The seeker felt sick with hate just being around them. He decided to leave.

“You mean you didn’t have a cabin?” A flushed face Neville asked his boyfriend with wide surprised eyes.

“No. We didn‘t.” Millicent answered in a huff as she stored her carry-on in a top compartment. “And Draco would have been pissed if we didn‘t get one!”

“That’s to say the least!” Blaise added on and kissed the tip of his boyfriend’s nose. “Not only that, all the cabins are filled to their fucking brink! And the Professors are roaming the isles just waiting for *us* to step out of line. I swear they were following us the entire time we were looking for a cabin!”

“It’s just a good thing we found this one!” Millicent said as she plopped in her seat and crossed her legs. “Draco would have hexed us if we didn’t, and he wouldn’t have even cared that it wasn’t our fault, because fucking Lupin was following us the entire time. No, he would have felt *justified* because *we* were late!” She glared at Blaise after that comment.

Hearing that Lupin was on the train, Harry brightened up immediately and quickly gathered his stuff to leave. When he walked out of the Slytherin filled cabin, the first thing he saw was his ‘uncle’ Remus leaning against the wall outside of the cabin he was in.

The boy gave the man a bone crushing hug. “Oh, I’ve missed you!” Harry practically cried out to the last living member of the Marauders. The last of his family. “I didn’t think... I wasn’t sure if they were going to let you teach again!”

Remus pulled back a little but not enough to break the hug. “Well, Dumbledore pulled a few strings and convinced the members of the Ministry and School Board that I am docile enough to teach.... Well, as long as I take my Wolfsbane potion.” He gave Harry a reassuring wink.

Harry gave the man another hug. “I’m so glad you’re here!” The boy whimpered. “It been so hard these last few years. You just don’t know...”

Remus could only hold the boy. He had heard what happened to Harry and his friends. Then when he heard that Sirius was killed, that bit of news was hard for him too. Now, he was the only one left.
When Harry’s cries became more frantic, the professor held the boy tighter as he tried to comfort him.

“Shh” The man soothed. “Harry, you’ve got to be strong.” When the boy shook his head no, Lupin said “What would your Godfather say, if he saw you like this....”

“I’m just so tired. Remus” Harry cried. “Mentally, emotionally, and physically tired.... It was hard enough with Voldemort on my back and always trying to kill me...but Malfoy.... he’s..”

“He’s what?” Came a cultured drawl. “I’m curious to know....What am I?”

Harry stiffened in Remus’s embrace. Draco was the *last* person he wanted to have see him while he was having this emotional break down. The Professor glared at the two blond Slytherins, who stood in front of him as if they ruled the world.

“Well, well, well.” Draco tutted maliciously as he put his hands in the pockets of his khaki slacks. “I knew, Professor that you were a werewolf... but now we find out that you are a chicken hawk too?”

Remus jerked angrily at the disparaging statement. Draco just accused him of being a pedophile. “You little--”

Draco quirked a brow as he awaited the insult. He was just waiting for Lupin to dig himself into a pit. The man’s job was already on a probationary basis.

The usually calm man took a deep breath to calm his anger. He knew what the boy was playing at. Though, it didn’t help that it was only a few days until a full moon and anger was the strongest emotion he felt during this time. “Mister Malfoy, you should go and find a cabin, before you find yourself in trouble.” Lupin ordered warningly.

“In trouble? Who me?” Draco asked in an amused tone as a cruel smirk played on his lips. “I’m not the one molesting a student. I wonder what the School Board would say when they hear about this little tryst.”

Harry didn’t understand what the chicken hawk accusation meant but now he understood fully and pulled away from his ‘uncle’ “How dare you!” He shrieked as he stepped forward in a threatening manner. “How dare you say something so horribly vicious!!”

Pansy stepped back in fear. She had never seen Potter so angry. Draco, on the other hand, didn’t budge an inch, nor did he change from his relaxed position of his hands in his pockets. He just kept his gaze trained on the irate boy in front of him and looked deceptively unprepared for an attack.

“Your such an evil, horrible person, Malfoy!” Harry yelled venomously. “You don’t care who you hurt, do you? You just go around destroying people for the fun of it. I hate you!” The Gryffindor held his hands up like he was going to choke the blond in front of him. And Draco’s flippant attitude was only making his rage burn into an inferno. ‘I hate you, you Slytherin piece of shite! I hate you!!”

Remus glanced at Draco and at the boy’s seemingly relaxed posture. It was almost like dejavu, for he had seen it before. Back when he was a student, and about a month after the prank on Severus. Remus had spied on a secret wizards duel between Lucius and Sirius. The only reason Remus knew about dual was because he had secretly followed the older teen. Lupin wanted to make sure that Black didn’t try to pull another deadly prank on another Slytherin. The werewolf knew that Sirius had felt venerated, justified, and untouchable after he got away with the “prank” without being punished. And because of this fact, the raven-haired boy’s prejudice spitefulness against Slytherins soared to an all time high. Throughout his reminiscences, Remus continued to stare at Draco. The elder Malfoy had carried himself in the same mock-relaxed disposition right before he pulled out his wand, with lightening speed, and hexed Sirius with a the same spell Draco used on the last years DADA teacher. After it was over, Lucius walked over to the fallen Gryffindor, crouched down, whispered something to Sirius, and left without looking back. No one ever spoke of the duel, but Sirius *did* back off of Severus after that.

Harry’s yelling brought him back out of his memory and back to the drama at hand.

“You don’t even care that the Weasley’s lost everything because of you! And that you destroyed Hermione’s dream of becoming a mediwitch!” As he yelled, tears streamed down his flushed cheeks. “No! All you care about is yourself!! You selfish git!”

“Potter... there is an old saying. If you can‘t do the time, don‘t do the crime.” Draco drawled in a deceptively calm and bored tone. “I think that Dumbledore has confused you on how the real world works. I know you are used to being praised for every one of your misdeeds, so let me set you straight.” The Slytherin smirked and continued as if he were speaking to a retarded child. “Listen closely now,... If you break the law... You are going to get punished. Now, if you would excuse me.” The boy started to walk past the other teen, but Harry grabbed him by the shoulders and slammed him into the wall.

“I hate you!“ The raven-haired boy cried out as he repeated slammed his fist into Draco stomach. “I hate you, you fucking murder!!”

Pansy screamed and shrilled like she was dying.

And the ruckus drew everyone out of their cabins.

When Lupin noticed all of the children watching the scene *that’s* when he decided to pull Harry off and away from Draco. The only reason he allowed it to get as out of hand as it he did was because he felt that his ‘nephew’ deserved this form of retribution. He was just glad that the children didn’t have their wands, for it was now mandatory for them to keep them in their trunks while on the train. If they did have their wand, the professor was sure that the out come would have been very different and in Draco’s favor.

The Slytherin, slumped to the floor after Harry was pulled from him. It was odd because through it all, Draco never cried out, and now he just kneeled on all fours, in dangerous silence. However, no one noticed this because all were looking at an infuriated Harry Potter who kept screaming that Draco was a murderer for killing an innocent man. That’s when Remus decided that it was time to take Harry to another train car. However, they didn’t get far.

“And where the *fuck,* do you think you’re going?” Came a deadly, calm question.

Harry spun around and tried to attack the Slytherin, who was now standing up and looking no worse for wear even after his pummeling.

Lupin quickly grabbed the raven-haired boy’s arm and said warningly. “Mr. Malfoy, I’ve had about enough from you today! Just go to your cabin!”

“Did you just hear that?!” Draco asked indignantly as he looked around at his audience, which strangely enough was mostly Slytherins. At seeing this, the boy could have jumped for joy, that is, if he did that sort of thing. In Draco’s opinion, this was just perfect! This little show of Gryffindor delinquency, and the way he *knew* Dumbledore was going to handle this infraction, was going to make his master plan that much easier. So he spoke loudly to ensure everyone could hear.

“Oh yes, professor...how typical of a Gryffindor, like yourself, to blame the Slytherin for their Houses *unprovoked* delinquent behavior!” The flaxen-haired boy gestured toward the other students in the isle. “Yes, we all know, to well I must say, the unwritten rule that ‘Its always the Slytherin’s fault...because were eeeviiill And that the Gryffindor can do no wrong because they are brave, noble and the all around good guy.’” The sarcasm and contempt was dripping from his voice.

When grumbles of equal contempt and agreement came from most of the observing students, Lupin eyes widened, for he now knew exactly what the Slytherin prince was doing. He was rallying his troops to complain to the Headmaster and to their parents, and most likely, the school board. The man’s fears were confirmed when a vindictive smirk appeared on the boy’s lips. Unfortunately, that wasn’t Draco’s only plan.

“That’s because Slytherins *are* evil!” Harry spat out as he tried to wrench himself free to attack the boy once more.

Insults from the other students were spat at the raven-haired Seeker and more than a few students stepped forward to give the Gryffindor the same treatment he gave Draco.

However, they were stopped when Draco elegantly put up his hand, in an unspoken command. He then narrowed his sliver eyes and continued with heavy sarcasm. “I must say, *professor*... You did an awfully good job of not letting your Golden Boy get out of hand..... I was wondering how far you would allow the situation get out of control before you actually *did* something about it. Hmmm?...I guess you’re just not as competent as I.” He gestured to the angry mob of Slytherins who were unhappily holding their peace, because he said so. Draco then looked down dismissively and brushed the wrinkles and dirt from his clothes. “Or maybe it’s because you didn’t want any witnesses to see the true side of a Gryffindor.” He looked up almost innocently. “You know...That was the real reason I allowed Potty to attack me. Hell, everyone knows that I, being a warlock and all....” He said the status warlock with a dismissive roll of the eyes. Though the blond started the rumor, it was dangerous to confirm it as truth. “I don‘t need a wand to perform magic.... So I decided to *test* you.... To see if you were *still* just like all the other Gryffindors... Oh, and sir,” He smirked wickedly. “I just wanted you to know that.... you didn’t disappoint me.”

Remus cut in. “I don’t know what you are talking about. I treat all of my students with the same respect. Even Slytherins.”

“Riiight.” Draco drawled bitterly. “And the sky is green and the grass is blue and you didn’t just allow Harry Potter to attack me.”

The professor swallowed hard. He could tell that Draco did not fear him or respect him as a teacher, or an adult. Cautiously, he looked around; he could also tell that the Slytherin students were getting angrier with ever word their leader said. They were angry because the boy spoke the truth. Even thought it was a twisted version of the truth.

When Draco turned and walked into his cabin, with an air of superiority and a cat who caught the canary grin, all the professor could do was mentally yell.

“Fuck!”
