Chapter Five

Chapter 5

Harry looked away from her, as if tying to organize his thoughts. He sighed and opened his mouth, but no words came out. He tried three or four times and still had not uttered any coherent words. Bloody hell, he thought, this is one of my best friends, why am I having a hard time with this?

“Well, er…it’s Ron,” Harry began.

“What about him, Harry?” Hermione asked.

“Well, he’s getting married.” Harry stated.

“Oh. Is that all you had to tell me?” Hermione asked.

“Uh, well, er…yeah.” Harry stuttered.

“And that took you that long to finally spill it? Well, I am happy for him. I didn’t think he and Lavender were all that serious. Good for them. Have they set a date yet?”

Harry didn’t look like he was even paying that much attention to what she had just asked.

“Harry…what’s going on here? What’s really going on, and why can you not tell me?” Hermione started to look worried. Harry only acted like this when something important had occurred. “Alright Harry, if you’re not ready to talk, then later is fine with me. Just as long as you know that you can tell me anything, at anytime. Sound good to you?” Hermione asked.

Harry looked relieved at this and nodded with his usual impish smile. She thought that this was all a little strange, but then again, with everyg thg the ‘Trio’ had been through, nothing should take her by surprise.

“So, what did you originally have planned today before I came over and invaded your space, my little bookworm?” Harry queried. “Anything exciting, or that you need help with?”

Hermione rolled her eyes at him and said, “No, just a little housework before going out with my two favorite men so that this place is presentable before we come back from dinner and watch a Muggle movie, and a trip to the video store. Any idea what you and Ron may want to watch tonight?”

“Hmmm…how about ‘The Mummy’, or ‘The Mummy Returns’?” Harry suggested.

“We’ve seen both of those movies before, on multiple occasions. You must like watching Rachel Weiss. In fact, I am thinking that is the only reason you watch those movies,” Hermione said.

“Oh, I am so hurt that you would suggest that. I happen to have an appreciation for the special effects that Muggles can accomplish without magic, and the storylines are good and funny. Besides, I know that you like watching Brendan Fraser and The Rock. In fact, I’ll bet you are one of those American WWE closet watchers, aren’t you? All that male flesh exposed, and all those muscles. Am I right?” Harry teased.

As Hermione turned a shade of pink, Harry started laughing. Hermione tried to make the blush stop and ended up laughing right along with Harry. Their giggles were interrupted by a tapping at the wind It It was Pig, Ron’s owl. Hermione, still laughing a bit, went over to the window and let Pig in. As usual, the little owl was excited to have reached his destination successfully, and started zipping around the room, forcing a still laughing pair to try and catch the little owl. Finally, Harry managed to reach up and grab Pig before he had made another revolution around the room. He took the message from Pig and went to the divan to read it with Hermione.

Hermione (and Harry – if you are already there in London) –

Hi mates! How are you both? I know it’s been a while since we all
got together, but I have to cancel again. Not only are the Cannons
still on the road (in Australia, which is a neat place you both would
really like), but I have some news. Hermione, don’t get angry, but
Harry already knows this – I finally asked Lavender to marry me, and
well…to my surprise, she actually said yes! I wanted to tell you
both in person, but with the Cannons’ schedule (and the promise of
playoffs in our immediate future) and now the wedding plans, I have
even less time than before. I want to say I am very sorry for canceling
at the last minute, but life on the road is a hectic one. I promise that I
will not miss the next one, though. I wouldn’t have this time, but Mum
insisted (and you know how she is when she insists) that we start by having
the Browns over for dinner to start the plans tonight (and she apologises
for doing this to you two) since this is one of the few times that Lavender’s
parents can get together with Mum and Dadh, bh, by the way, the date
is set for the following February, as Lavender has always wanted a winter
wedding. You two, if you want, will be in the wedding, and the next time
we meet for family planning, you two should be there. That should be
next month (and I will make sure that it does NOT interfere with our next
get-together), and I will keep you posted as to the exact time to meet
at The Burrow. Hope this finds you in good spirits (actually, since Pig is
the deliverer, I just hope this letter FINDS you),

Love,
Ron (and Lavender)

“Well then, ‘I guess it’s just you and me, honeybunch’,” quoted Harry.

“Yes, well, I guess so. How about we just go eat and then go out for a few celebratory drinks for Ron and his fiancée instead, Mr. Potter? Does that sound fine to you?” Hermione asked.

“Sure thing, Miss Granger.” Harry tried to sound just as formal as Hermione.

“That’s Ms. Granger to you, Mr. Man,” Hermione retorted, with a smile on her face.

“’As you wish’ Ms. Granger,” Harry smiled back at Hermione, as he did a mock bow that would rival some of the best courtly bows in history. He did notice however, that though the smile was genuine, it did not fully reach her cinnamon eyes, and he wondered what was bothering her.
