The day the falsified testimony floated past the Wizengamot, Hermione knew to what lengths Molly Weasley would go to avenge her son and to what lengths Harry Potter would go to have a family.

Subtle, almost dark, magic modified Harry’s memory of the death of Dumbledore and removed all memory of his near-killing of Draco using the dark Sectumsempra hex. It took Hermione quite a few blinks and wide-eyed stares to realize the level of tampering the Weasley matriarch had accomplished. Minerva McGonigall, a witness for the defense, joined Albus Dumbledore’s and Severus Snape’s portraits in rebutting Harry’s altered account. 

In the end, one living hero trumped an old headmistress and two dead professors.

Draco got the maximum penalty - the Dementor’s kiss.

Molly accomplished her intent to “do unto others” as had been done unto her. 

Lucius Malfoy watched in shock, one month later at Azkaban, as he became the last living Malfoy. By Wizengamot edict (in response to a “compassionate” request made by the “victims” — who were represented by Harry and Ginny Potter), the kiss lasted half a day, Draco shrieking and pleading to join his mother the entire time. The Weasleys set up rented bleachers and provided portkeys to the “event” for a rapaciously vengeful public. 

Mrs. Weasley’s plan to make the Blacks and Malfoys extinct was proceeding apace. Not that it would bring Fred back…

After due consideration, Hermione Granger restarted the war to level the playing field for all magical beings in Britain.
