Everything Has Changed

Chapter 3

      Dinner had gone by without any interruptions and very little table talk which suited Hermione greatly. She couldn’t help but steal glances at Professor Snape as he chatted quite freely with Lucius and Narcissa; he seemed more relaxed than when he was her teacher at Hogwarts.

“Maybe we should resign to the library for a nightcap” Lucius said rising from his chair

“Lucius, you know I can’t stay here much longer. I would really like to hear why Professor Snape came all this way to say” Hermione stated

“Very well Miss Granger. I have fully taken over the headmaster duties at Hogwarts meaning that I do not have time to teach potions. You took only three years to achieve your potions masters’ degree and I believe it’s time you return to our world” Snape said

“You believe I should return?! You don’t have any say on this or any matter in my life!” she exclaimed

“And hiding in the muggle world is the solution to your problems? You’re being a stupid and ignorant girl!”

“Girl? Maybe you’re forgetting professor that this woman is the same person that set fire to your robes jut in her first year so don’t you dare think you can boss me around anymore” Hermione snapped angrily, pushing back her chair abruptly

“Thank you for dinner Lucius and Narcissa but your rude guest is forcing me to cut this visit short” she said grabbing Draco’s hand and pulling him out of the dining room

     “Whoa! Where are we going?” he asked

“You’re taking me home! I never want to see that man’s disgusting face again!” she said before Draco apparated her into the living room of her house

“I’m sorry about uncle Severus Hermione; I’m sure father and mom are scolding him right now as we speak” Draco said apologetically

“I just want to forget this ever happened Draco” Hermione said smiling gently and giving him a kiss on his cheeks “I’ll see you soon”

         After Draco left, Hermione grabbed a bottle of wine and a wine glass from her kitchen before heading to her room and drinking herself to sleep.

      Hermione groaned as she woke up the next morning. Maybe drinking wine after last night wasn’t such a good idea she thought as she went into the bathroom in search of aspirin and a hot shower. After the shower, she slipped on a pair of jeans and a tank top before heading to the kitchen to maker herself a fresh pot of coffee. After what had occurred last night, Hermione was in no mood to see or even hear about magic. She was pissed at everyone and more than ever didn’t want to return to the wizarding world.

          Hermione was about to pour out a cup of coffee when a light knocking on her door alerted her that someone was outside. Usually Lucius or Draco apparated inside without knocking and she didn’t associate with any of her neighbours for it to be any of them.

“Who is it?” she asked looking around for any object that could damage if it was an unwanted person

“Miss Granger, it is I; Professor Snape. I believe we need to talk” he said

“I think you did enough talking last night Snape! I don’t want to talk again” she snapped

“Please Miss Granger, I…I have to apologise”

Hermione sighed before removing her manual locks and letting him inside. He was dressed casually in a white shirt and black pants with a giant brown paper bag in his hand.

“What’s that?” she asked him crossing her arms over her chest

“A peace offering, breakfast from the house elves at Hogwarts” he said placing the bag on the kitchen counter “I am sorry for the way I acted last night at dinner…it was unforgivable”

“It was but maybe I’ll forgive you after we’ve eaten” Hermione said smiling gently before removing the containers from the bag

She loved to cook but she had to admit she missed the food at Hogwarts. After offering Professor Snape some coffee, they both tucked into the pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon the house elves had provided.

       “Is that all you came here to do? To apologise?” Hermione asked after pouring them some more coffee

“It is…you don’t see keen on returning to the magic world even after the persuasion of the Malfoy family” he said

“Do you know what happened to me professor? Everything that he did to me?” she asked him softly, staring at the cup instead of at him

“I do know; I helped the healers at St Mungo’s with the potions to allow you to heal properly” Professor Snape told her

She looked up at him in shock and surprise; no one had told her that he had helped. She just assumed he never cared.

“I never knew that” she said

“There are a lot of things you don’t know about Miss Granger, and as long as you remain here; shut away from magic you won’t know” he said “everyone misses you back where you belong and they’re all worried even after five years…they still care. All I can promise you when you’re at Hogwarts is that you will be safe, I promise”

“I really have to think about this some more professor” she said “But I accept your apologises about last night”

“Thank you but I’m afraid I must get back to Hogwarts. Goodbye for now Miss Granger” professor Snape said before leaving

           Hermione spent the rest of the day reading and contemplating about actually returning to the wizarding world. She really missed everything about that world. It was late in the evening before Hermione heard another knock on the door. Must be the professor coming to feed me again she thought smiling but when she opened the door, the smile slipped off her face as she met with an unpleasant surprise.
