Chapter Four - Destination Italy
Hermione arrived at the Due Torri Hotel in Verona Italy 3 days before Blaise’s big birthday ball. She may have been a little optimistic about coming to Italy for the ball but, she was a romantic and the magic in the air of the city was enough to have any girl accepting an invitation.
Verona was one of the most powerful cities during the early rule of the Roman Empire, and the old city of Verona is one of the best preserved sections of the country. To a muggle it is a wonder how the place is still standing, but to any wizard or witch they knew the city was built with magic.
The story of Romeo and Juliet was one of Hermione’s favorite love stories and the fact that the Zabini abode was in Verona held a lot of sway to her decision of attending the ball. A chance to visit Juliet’s said home The Casa Di Giulietta and Romeo’s home which was converted into a charming little restaurant called Osteria Dal Duca was too good to pass up.
In a perfect world, Hermione would have traveled here with a lover to experience the city of Romance and all that it had to offer, but she had chosen to seclude herself from the wizarding world for just a little while, and until now standing on this balcony alone, had believed enjoying the single life was the way to go. , She prayed to Merlin that the old magic of love would bless her on her journey so she would not have to live in this world alone forever.
Hermione looked at the picturesque view from the balcony of her room and took a long deep breath feeling the magic vibrate to her very core, and the lifted her binoculars up to her eyes and looked at the vast sprawling landscape.
From her balcony she could see the Adige river, the scenic mausoleum of Arche Scaligeri house, Castlevecchio, Casa Di Giulietta and many other places she could not wait to visit the following days before the ball.
Exhausted from the hustle and bustle of the international floo network, Hermione slipped off her shoes and walked into the large bathroom and slipped into the deep Jacuzzi tub and enjoyed a tall flute of champagne and a hot soak in the tub before heading out for a nice dinner, sadly enough alone.

Draco Malfoy stepped out of the International Floo at the Zabini Abode in Verona shortly after 7 in the evening. Dinner had already been served and Draco was having second thoughts of coming to the ball, the thought of being rejected by numerous women did not seem appealing to him at all.
“Draco you came!” Blaise greeted as he stepped forward and shook his friends hand “It’s good to see you out, can I have the elves take your bags?” he asked snapping his fingers not giving Draco time to respond.
A small elf materialized out of thin air and bowed “Master Zabini what can Dot do for you sir?” she asked wringing her small hands in her periwinkle cloth dress.
“Please have these bags moved to a room in the guest wing and have a room prepared for Mr. Malfoy.” Blaise said and started walking out of the foyer and down a hallway leading towards his den.
“Sorry Mate, I should have told you, I have a hotel reservation at the Due Torri, but thank you for the offer.” Draco stated as an uncomfortable silence fell upon the room.
“Ah no worries there, I understand, its going to get a little crazy around here with all the preparation for the ball.” Blaise replied with a smile.
“I just thought I would pop in and make plans for dinner tomorrow before heading to the hotel.” Draco stated apologetically.
“Sure dinner tomorrow would be great”
“Well Im gonna head to the hotel, the International Floo is getting rather insane, and I would like nothing more then a hot shower and if I don’t fall asleep immediately after a nice meal.”
“Alright Mate, have a good night, I’ll see you tomorrow” Blaise said as Draco picked up his bags and headed back down the hall into the foyer then out the front doors to where a car would take him to his hotel.
A black Mercedes Benz was stationed outside the Zabini Abode waiting to take Draco to his hotel. A portly man greeted him with a friendly smile and put Draco’s bags into the boot of the car before opening the back door allowing Draco to climb inside.
“Hello Mr. Malfoy, My name is Alberto, I will be your driver tonight and for the remainder of your stay in Verona, Here is my card feel free to call anytime day or night.” Alberto said over his shoulder while pulling out onto the busy street.
“Thank You” Draco said while taking the blue business card from the man.
On the ride to the hotel Draco made small mental notes of all the places he wanted to tour the following. He had time so why not enjoy it, he thought to himself as the car pulled into the circular drive of the Hotel.
After checking into his room and having his bags brought up by the bell hop, Draco stripped out of his clothes and stepped into a hot shower.

Hermione’s stomach growled as she rummaged through the small closet looking for something nice to wear. She settled on a black knee length tights and a long green short sleeve tunic top with a low v cut neck line, and finished the outfit off with a pale green heeled shoe.
Her stomach gave another low growl as she charmed her hair into soft ringlets cascading down her back onto her shoulders and applied a small amount of make up, then shoved her wand into a secret pocket in the tunic top, grabbed her black clutch and stepped out of her room.
Once out the door she turned and checked to make sure it was locked and then spun around to head down the hall. When she spun around she ran right into the hotel guest staying in the room beside her. “Oh Im sorry” Hermione said automatically mentally checking herself to make sure she never dropped anything.
“Its quite alright Miss.......Hermione Granger?” The man asked.
Hermione finally looked up and was greeted with steel gray eyes, trademark blond hair and a famous smirk. “Malfoy?” she asked taken back by their close proximity.
“Please, call me Draco” he said “What are you doing here in Italy?”
“Sight seeing, and attending Zabini’s Masquerade Ball, at the moment though, going to have a quiet dinner”
“What a coincidence” Draco drawled. “Do you have an escort to dinner?” He asked hoping not to sound rude.
“Nope, No escort, would you care to join me for dinner?” She asked hoping not to sound desperate.
“Can you give me a minute?” Draco asked before retreating back into his room after Hermione gave a small smile and a nod.
What in Merlins name is going on? He asked himself once the door was closed. Here he was in Verona Italy the city of romance running into the one person he was taught to hate, the one person he wrote an apology to out of the hundreds of people who could have received an apology from him, and finding himself unable to tear his eyes away from her.
Draco walked to the bathroom splashed some cool water on his face while he collected his thoughts, then he very quickly changed into a black pair of trousers and donned a silk green dress shirt. If he was going to accompany her, he may as well look as good as her.
He stepped back out the door to a very flustered looking witch and smiled. “You look smashing” he said and offered the stunned witch his arm, together they headed down the hall.
“Where would you like to eat Hermione?” Draco asked as he led her out the front entrance and towards Alberto’s waiting car.
“I was thinking of Osteria Dal Duca” Hermione replied once seated into the back of the Benz and looked over at Draco for approval.
“Sounds great” he replied and then politely asked Alberto to take them to that restaurant.
Feeling a little anxious and overwhelmed by her present company Hermione looked at Draco and said “It was once Romeo’s home, but it has been turned it into a restaurant, and Juliet’s home has a lot of historical evidence to back it up that it was actually a bordello at one point in time”
Draco laughed and smiled at Hermione before responding.
“But, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.
Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,
Who is already sick and pale with grief,
That thou her maid art far more fair than she:
Be not her maid, since she is envious;
Her vestal livery is but sick and green
And none but fools do wear it; cast it off.
It is my lady, O, it is my love!
O, that she knew she were!
She speaks yet she says nothing: what of that?
Her eye discourses; I will answer it.
I am too bold, 'tis not to me she speaks:
Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven,
Having some business, do entreat her eyes
To twinkle in their spheres till they return.
What if her eyes were there, they in her head?
The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars,
As daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven
Would through the airy region stream so bright
That birds would sing and think it were not night.
See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand!
O, that I were a glove upon that hand,
That I might touch that cheek!”
Hermione gazed at Draco longingly ‘Wow a man who can recite Shakespear from memory, when did Draco Malfoy become so handsome?’ she asked herself before being pulled away from her thoughts.
“Your not the only one who reads books Hermione Granger.” Draco said a smile playing on his lips. It was the first time in his entire life he had ever been able to render the witch speechless. That gave him a desire to see if he could do it more often.
“Hermione, if I may be so bold?” Draco asked
Hermione looked at him and replied “Yes Ma... I mean Draco?”
“You’re here alone, I am here alone. I know We do not have the greatest past, but can we leave it where it is, behind us and may I ask that you accompany me tomorrow on a tour of the city?” Draco asked feeling rather anxious at her answer.
‘What is happening to me? What is this feeling? Why are you holding your breath?’ Draco asked himself as he waited for her to respond.
“I would love that Draco!” Hermione responded and suppressed a giggle.
‘Really girl, come on pull yourself together, your about to burst at the seams like a giddy school girl’ she berated herself for answering a little too happily.
‘Well that was rather enthusiastic’ Draco thought to himself as he smiled “There are many places I plan to visit, I hope you can keep up” Draco said with a wink as they stepped out of the car and headed to the entrance of the small restaurant.
..oo0oo..
(a/n, I still do not have a beta, bare with me. I have so much planned for their tour. I never knew anything about Italy so I google image searched and picked the prettiest picture and found out where it was before I researched it and I laughed when I came across the fact that it was a well known setting for Romeo and Juliet. I hope you all enjoyed this!
