It was pointed out to me in the reviews that Fred died, it was George who survived, so I have edited the chapters accordingly. Special thanks to Jan for pointing that out to me.

On with the chapter.

********

Harry stood in the doorway of his bedroom and watched his children sleep in dawns early rays of light, curled around each other. Andie pottered around them, healing cuts and bruises. Albus had needed the most work, and Andie had spent most of the night working on him. Lily had managed to walk away with nothing more than a black eye.

Physically, his children would be fine. Andie had made sure of that. But mentally? Emotionally? Harry had his doubts that they would ever be alright again.

Andie covered the children with a blanket and walked to the door. Harry followed her as she walked to the greenhouse and sank down in the dirt. Harry was unsure of what to do. He and Andie had gotten along well since his arrival a few weeks ago, but they had never had to deal with anything as emotionally draining as this. He watched as she began to cry. He walked over to her and pulled her into a hug, crying with her for what Ginny had done to his babies.

“I’m sorry, Harry,” she whispered against his chest.

“For what?” he asked, startled by the statement, pushing her away from him to look her in the eye.

“That I couldn’t do more, that I couldn’t undo it. My mother could have. She did it for my father.”

“What do you mean? Come with me to get something to eat and we can talk.” He pulled her to her feet and led her to the kitchen. He sat her down and made them some soup. As they sat there eating, Harry waited fro Andie to tell him what was on her mind.

“My father was nearly killed by the Dark Lord. He went back to him and told him that the Elves would not cooperate. The Dark Lord got angry, he blamed my father. He nearly killed him. In a moment of desperation, my father Apparated himself to my mother. She healed him, and shared the burden of his memories.”

Harry pondered for a minute. “I don’t understand what you mean.”

“She took the pain of the memories while still allowing my father to retain the memory of what had happened. He loved her for that. And other things, but that was the catalyst that led to the conception of me.”

“What happened to your mother?”

“She died when I was nine. Narcissa killed her.”

Harry sat there in silence. “I’m sorry.”

“It was a long time ago. My father hated Narcissa after that. He wanted to divorce her but he stayed for Draco’s sake. He came to see me when he could. But my Uncle didn’t like me having so much contact with the human world. Said it would taint me.”

They sat in silence for a short time. Harry’s head was whirling. Andie obviously took after her mother, and for that he was grateful. But how could Narcissa have done that? He suddenly understood what had happened when Narcissa had fallen in front of the Hogwarts Express a few years ago.

“Lucius killed Narcissa didn’t he?” Harry said quietly.

“No, I did,” Draco said from the doorway. He walked in and hugged his sister before seating himself beside her and Summoning some alcohol from the drawing room. Lucius walked in after the bottles zoomed in, seating himself beside Harry.

There was a shocked silence from Harry for a short while before he spoke. “You killed your mother? Why?” he asked at Draco’s nod.

“The day before I walked in on my mother and father arguing. The things she said about Andie, they were completely horrific. And when we were dropping off Scorpius, she started again, saying things about Andie, how painfully she wanted to kill her, just like she did her mother. She was in such a rage that as the train started to move, she tripped and stared to stumble into the past of the train. She cried out to me to save her and I ignored her. I watched as the train ran her over,” Draco said blandly.

“But you didn’t kill her. It was an accident,” Harry said.

Lucius intervened. “Draco is trying to illustrate the official story. That is not what happened.”

Harry sat there waiting for someone to explain. He was more than shocked to find Andie taking off her clothes. “What the hell are you doing?” he said, sounding panicked.

“Calm Harry, she’s explaining why Draco performed the Killing curse on his mother,” Lucius said calmly, but Harry noticed a sad undertone to his voice.

She finished removing her black robes and stood to remove her black top and skirt. Harry felt tears prick his eyes when he saw her skin. She stood before them all in a sports bra and a pair of shorts. There were hundreds of curse scars littering her skin, some looked suspiciously like remnants of the Crutacious curse. But there were none that looked like Harry’s, no lightning bolts.

As she turned away from them to redress, Harry noticed a line of what looked like green leaf shaped tattoos running down her spine. She pulled on her top and sat back down. “Draco saved me. She wasn’t talking about killing me, she was trying to do it. The Ministry of Magic decided that it wouldn’t be very attractive to Narcissa’s memory if it was released to the public. So, that pathetic mess of a tale was released. Very few people know the truth. You’re now one of them.”

“I don’t remember seeing that.”

“It was after most of the families had left. The platform was nearly deserted,” Draco said.

They all sat in silence for a long time, sipping at their alcohol. Finally, Harry spoke up again.

“What happened to your wife, Draco?”

“Attacked by a Hippogriff. Pansy never was the smartest witch. She pissed it off by standing on it’s foot. The biggest piece they found intact was her head. Scorpius was the one to find her, out in the woods by the house. It’s why he keeps mostly to his rooms.”

“I wondered why he was so secretive. I’ve been here three weeks and I’ve only seen him twice. I’m sorry Draco, it must have been horrible for him. For you too.”

“Not really. For Scorpius maybe, but not for me,” Draco laughed at the shocked look on Harry’s face. “Pansy had female lovers for our entire marriage. I have a male lover. We married out of convenience and because I was expected to produce an heir. We were friends, very good friends, and we became quite companionable over the years, but I never loved her, nor she me, not in that way.”

“Right. And I’m sure you’re about to tell me Lucius cross dresses and Andie moonlights as a Veela in her spare time,” Harry joked. They all laughed, Andie regaining herself first.

“No, I don’t moonlight as a Veela, I am one. A quarter, any way,” she said calmly as Harry’s face dropped.

Lucius once again stepped in to explain a few things to their guest. “I am half Veela. My mother was a Veela. She bore my father one child before she abandoned us. My father remarried and the secret of my heritage was kept within family circles only.”

“Oh, so you’re not so Pure Blooded, huh Draco?” Harry said sarcastically.

Draco had the good grace to look sheepish. “To be fair, I didn’t know until after I left Hogwarts. It was dormant in me until my 21st birthday.”

Harry nodded and once more focused his attention on Lucius. “Just another reason I kept my daughter’s existence a secret. Can you imagine what the Dark Lord would have done to her if he had known. He already held sway over me.”

“What do you mean?”

“Do you really think I worked for that megalomaniac because I had a choice? Every Veela has a weakness, something they will do anything to protect. With me, it was Draco. He threatened to do unspeakable things to Draco if I didn’t comply with his wishes. Draco was an innocent child, my child, my son. I had to protect him. Even in the second war, I had to protect my son.”

“Why didn’t you just tell the Ministry or the Order about this?”

“Because Veela are prized. Full Veela, or even half Veela are often killed for their body parts. They are sold on the black market for an extortionate price. Most Veela have keepers, who protect them. Many Veela parts go into fertility potions, and believe me, you really don’t want to know the more unsavoury uses for my body parts,” Lucius said, shuddering.

They sat there, letting Harry take it all in. Lucius was half Veela. Draco killed his mother. Narcissa had inflicted terrible things upon Andie, the woman who had just saved his children. The most amazing thing to Harry was that he felt safe with them. Murderers and half bred magical beings who could kill him in a heart beat. He felt safe with them. Especially with Lucius.

“I have a few more questions,” Harry said eventually.

Lucius inclined his head slightly, indicating for Harry to continue.

“Draco, who is your lover? Lucius, don’t Veela have mates? And Andie, what are the leaves on your spine?”

Andie began first, letting her brother compose himself. “They are Elvin markings, they mark me out as being an Elf. All Elves have them. When an Elf is fatally ill, the leaves turn brown. Before the age of twenty five, they are a white colour. They represent the seasons of life.”

“Thanks. Lucius?” Harry turned to the half Veela.

“Well, yes Harry, you’re right. Veela do have mates.”

“Was Narcissa yours?”

Lucius laughed outright, a deep throaty laugh that sent shivers down Harry’s spine. “No! Definitely not. Narcissa was an arranged marriage. I am bisexual, but the only woman apart from Narcissa I have slept with was Dreyla, Andie’s mother. I generally lean more towards men. My mate is male. So is Draco’s. Andie has yet to find hers. Elves have mates too.”

“Who is your mate?”

“That is a very personal question, Harry. It is a question I am not willing to discuss with you. It is Draco’s choice if her tells you who his is, but I will not reveal mine.”

Harry nodded and mumbled an apology to Lucius. He noticed that a strange sort of look had glazed over Lucius’ eyes when he spoke of his mate.

Harry decided to drop the subject and turned to Draco. Draco smiled at him. “Percy.”

“What?” Harry said confused.

“My mate and my lover. Percy Weasley.”

*************

I know, another cliffie, but I like them. Can anyone guess who Lucius’ mate is?

Voting is now over and Lucius won. Guess what comes next. *gives evil cackle*

Thank you so so so so so much for the reviews, they are so great. This time thanks go to:

kiwigirl, GreenEyedRaven, morbidgoddess, BRM, Jan, Dragonqueen, amyordinary, Tina109, and azinine.

Answers to reviews:

Tina109: I agree and thank you, I’m glad you like the story.

amyordinary: I’m glad you like Andie, and there may be some het but not too much.

BRM: No you can’t have that many votes, but enthusiasm is noted, and thanks for the hugs.

GreenEyedRaven, Dragonqueen, and azinine: I may kill her but I won’t have Harry do it. She is still the mother of his children after all.

Here is my next question, who do you think that Andie should have as her mate?

When I talk about mates, I am talking about their true love. Personally I picture George, because he would offset her seriousness. But what do you think?

Reviews are welcomed.

(Oh, to hell with it, reviews are loved and I get a great big smile on my face every morning when I realise there are reviews and you actually like my story!)
