Chapter 3: Equipment & Accessories

Chapter 3: Equipment & Accessories

At this point, the rationale behind procuring the following items should be obvious. However, I will not presume anything, not even the supposed wisdom upon which you based purchasing this book, and therefore will provide you with some necessary detail.

As previously mentioned, warmth and those items promoting warmth (fire, blankets, brandy and the warm body of another), are very wise to have on hand and readily accessible. With the exception of alcohol, you can elect to apply heat inducing items during a session, after or both. You should not imbibe alcohol during a session, as the brain numbing effects of liquor will only hinder any progress you would otherwise achieve with respect to deriving pleasure from Cruciatus. A side note for those intending to use this skill for deceptive purposes: you will eventually wish to remove warming items from your sessions once you become reasonably proficient with this skill since you will unlikely be given a nice down feather comforter just before you are maniacally cursed by a dark wizard in a foul mood or an Auror with no scruples.

Comfortable furnishings are also highly advisable. You may suffer during the first few times you experience Cruciatus (even with the methodology outlined in this book); therefore you might as well be as comfortable as possible. I recommend a large bed, as you may inadvertently fall out of a single bed should you flail about uncontrollably, as you are likely to do.

Your partner should be educated concerning the side effects of physical shock and distress. Furthermore, they should be able to discern at which point the line crosses from initial shock into the realm of serious physical trauma in order to react accordingly at such instances. As such, in addition to your partner's repertoire of known healing spells, it is highly advisable to have on hand a variety of healing potions that your partner is prepared to administer at a moment's notice.

As the initial reaction to Cruciatus is similar for most individuals, I highly suggest that you consider comfortable restraints (soft leather, inflexible suede or thick linen) so that you do not injure yourself or your partner accidentally during the initial stages of learning to tolerate (and ultimately enjoy) this curse. Iron manacles and similar devices are barbaric and belong in your dungeon, not as a component to this particular sadomasochistic play. There is enough pain involved in Cruciatus, you need not add to it with harmful equipment -- unless that truly is your kink and far be it for me to argue with what anyone finds pleasurable.

A hot bath (accompanied by healing potions and brandy at your discretion) is quite soothing after a session with Cruciatus, and therefore having the aforementioned available to you would be extremely beneficial. A bath not only soothes your body, but also your temperament should you harbour any ill feelings towards your partner. After all, they have just spent the last few hours cursing you -- orgasm or no, this practice can leave a malevolent psychological mark.

Remember, you should be able to trust your partner as much as possible, and since you will have need of this valuable commodity, you should not harm him or her unless absolutely necessary. It is unwise to mentally entertain the expulsion of your partner at the end of a session, when your body and mind are wracked from Cruciatus, sometimes leaving you without the capacity for rational thought. Unless, of course, you have already dealt with them, and then you need only concern yourself with the disposal of their corpse, which is beyond the scope of this book and to which I would draw to your attention to other such pertinent books from Pureblood Press. I wish you better luck with your next partner, but caution you on the habitual nature of dispatching your partners -- the problem may lie with you and not with them.

As I feel that this is crucial, I reiterate that since you will be exerting as much control over your body's reaction as possible, I discourage the ingestion of alcohol or any other mind-altering substances prior to or during a session. Distorted thought processes will only lead to unsatisfactory if not disastrous results. For your safety, your partner should also abide by the same rule.

Finally, the initial sessions of conditioning your body requires that you receive a certain degree of manual pleasure. Therefore, have on hand any items contributing to your sexual arousal and pleasure. You should be aware of your own desires, and it is not my place to guide you here. Although, you may wish to forego any form of corporeal punishment (leave the floggers, whips and canes behind) since Cruciatus is, essentially, a form of said play. If you do need to have another individual present to take care of your sexual needs, you only increase the risk of discovery. Therefore, be very cautious about who you expose to your extracurricular activity. In fact, I would not suggest the inclusion of another individual at all, but perhaps you are willing to risk more than I.
