Letters and Diagon Alley
"Tonks, you stay here with those two and show them how to get in," Moody growled and then went inside.
Once the door was closed, they heard a shuffling, noise, and then the building faded from their sight and was invisible once more.
"All right you two follow me," Tonks said.
They followed her to the rusty old plaque that was on the stone foundation. The plaque read, Orix Denphoer.
"All right, here's how you do it, by pointing your wand at the plaque and saying the spell 'Revealio', these letters on the plaque will rearrange themselves to spell 'Order' and 'Phoenix.' Then, after the house has come into view, speak the password 'Mimbulus Mimbletonia' and the door will open. All right Harry, give it a go," Tonks said.
Harry raised his wand to the plaque and said, "Revealio." Just like Tonks said, the letters rearranged themselves and spelt the words ‘Order’ and 'Phoenix.' Once the words were spelled out the house came into view.
"Mimbulus Mimbletonia," Hermione said, and the door opened.
"Good lets go inside. I'm cold and tired."
Harry and Hermione entered the house with Tonks right behind them.
"Everyone's probably sleeping so you're going to have to be very quiet and watch where you're going," Tonks whispered.
"I can say the same thing to you, Tonks," Harry whispered back.
"Very funny, Harry. Now, just up these stairs," Tonks told them.
They quietly walked up the staircase and came into a dark hallway.
"Lumos,"Tonks muttered.
The light glow from the tip of Tonks’ wand lit up the hallway instantly. They walked down the hallway, passing door after door.
"All right, Hermione, this is your room which you share with Ginny," Tonks whispered, opening the door to the left of them.
"Tonks, what's behind most of these doors?" Harry asked.
'Well most of them have people occupying them. That one is Fleur's room," Tonks whispered, pointing to the door opposite Hermione's. "And Harry and Ron’s' room is the next door down on this side. The last four rooms on each side are unoccupied and full of old junk we've cleaned out of rooms around the house."
"All right," Harry said. "So this is my room?"
Harry was pointing at the next door farther down the hall on the left side. Tonks nodded.
Harry turned the handle and went in. Moonlight was streaming in through the window from the other side of the room. Harry spotted Hedwig sitting over by the window.
"Hey Hedwig," Harry whispered as he reached her. She nipped his hand affectionately and then flew out the window to hunt. Harry walked over to his trunk, opened it and pulled out his pajamas. As he was changing he looked at the clock, three fifteen AM. It was about four hours ago that he left the Dursleys. Harry thought it didn't feel that long ago. Harry climbed into bed and fell asleep within minutes.
Suddenly Harry was being shaken vigorously.
"Harry, wake up!" a boys' voice shouted.
"Ron! Don't do that. He and Hermione only got here three o'clock this morning," a girl's voice said.
"So… Harry wake up," Ron said, insistently.
Harry turned over to his side, and pulled the blankets over his head.
"Oh come on Harry, get up," Ron said pulling the blankets off Harry.
"Look, Ron, piss off," Harry said, snatching back the blankets.
"All right, fine," Ron said as he walked out of the room.
"Told you to leave him alone," the girl's voice said.
"Look, Ginny, shut up," Ron said hotly.
Two hours later, Harry entered the kitchen.
"Hey mate, how are you?" Ron asked.
"I'd be better, if I hadn't been shaken awake at eight in the morning," Harry responded.
Ron turned a slight shade of red.
"Ron, did you go wake Harry up after I specifically said not to?" Mrs. Weasley asked.
"Next time I want to be shaken awake, Ron, I'll hang a sign above my bed, all right," Harry said, sitting down at the table next to Hermione, who was sitting across from Fred and George.
"Here, tuck in, Harry," Mrs. Weasley said, placing a plate of pancakes and bacon in front of him.
Harry, Hermione, Ron and Ginny spent most of the day in Harry and Ron’s' room catching up.
"So your uncle kicked you out of the house? Oh… Harry how could they?" Hermione asked.
"My uncle claims, I'm a danger to his family," Harry answered. "I’m to never return at all, not after school, never."
"Hold on…after school?" Ron said.
"Oh, Hermione didn't tell you? I'm returning to Hogwarts," Harry answered.
"Wicked," Ron said. "But what are you going to do about…you know…him?"
"Oh for goodness sake, Ron, say his name," Hermione snapped.
"Voldemort? Well you can be assured that I am going after him. I WILL kill him. After all, he has all ready taken too much away from me and I'm the only one that can kill him," Harry told them.
Just then six owls zoomed into the room all bearing a letter or a package and landed on the dresser. Two of the owls were Hedwig and Hector; the other four, no one had seen before. All four of them walked up to an owl and removed its luggage; Hedwig was the only one with a package or letter.
"These are our Hogwarts letters," Ginny said, holding a big thick envelope with the Hogwarts crest imprinted in red wax on the back.
"These are for us three, and…they're from the Ministry," Hermione said, holding up three envelopes.
"Let me see those," Ron said, snatching the letters from her hand.
Ron looked through the three envelopes and took out his. "Here ya go," he said, handing the other two envelopes back to Hermione.
He opened it quickly, pulled out the piece of parchment and read the letter. "Don't worry, they are just are Apparation notices, we're not in trouble. My test is on the fourth of August, when's yours, Hermione?"
Hermione opened her letter and read, "August fourth. What about you Harry?"
Hermione handed Harry his letter and he opened it. Then with a smile he said, "Same day."
"Wait a minute…Hermione you turned seventeen last September, why are you taking your test now?" Ron asked.
"Well…I didn't want to take it last year," Hermione said. "I sent the Ministry a letter informing them I'd much rather take my test during the summer, as to not distract me from school work, those lessons did enough."
Hermione walked past Harry and Ron and approached Hector.
"Well little one, what do you have for me?" she asked, taking the letter from Hector.
Once the letter was removed from him, Hector flew out the window along the other four owls. The letter was from her parents just saying hi and inquiring to how she was. Just then Mrs. Weasley came into the room.
Oh have you Hogwarts letters come?" she asked.
"Yeah, mum, they're right here," Ginny said holding up the now open envelope in one hand and her list in the other.
'Well, we'll go into Diagon Alley tomorrow," Mrs. Weasley said.
"Oh mum before you go, you should know that our Apparation letters also came," Ron said.
"They have? When are they?" she asked.
"They're all on the same day, fourth of August," Ron said.
"Well that's good news," Mrs. Weasley said, and then walked out of the room.
The next morning Harry was once again shaken awake by Ron.
“Ron!” Hermione exclaimed coming into the room holding Crookshanks “I thought Harry said that the next time he wanted to be shaken awake he’ll…never mind”
There over Harry’s bed was a sign that read Shake Me Awake
“Ron, what did I tell you about shaking me awake?” Harry asked rather groggily
Without looking away from Harry, Ron pointed up above Harry at the sign that was floating above Harry.
“Haha, whose idea was that?” Harry asked sarcastically annoyed
Just then two fits of laughter broke out in the hallway and Fred having fallen against the door because he was laughing so hard fell into the room. Harry got up out of bed and walked over to them.
“Sorry Harry, but it was to good a prank to let pass by,” George said.
“Right, next time I’ll watch what I say in your presence,” Harry said.
Just then Mrs. Weasley came into the room. She saw Fred and George laughing rather hard that they were panting for breath, Hermione and Ron with rather amused looks on their face, an amused, annoyed and tired Harry and the sign over Harry’s bed.
“I will not ask,” she said “Hurry up; get dressed you three if you want to go to Diagon Alley.”
An hour later Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Mrs. Weasley, accompanied by Bill and Fleur, much to the disappointment of Hermione and Ginny, were blending in with the busy crowds of Diagon alley.
“We have to go to Gringotts first. Do you two have your keys?” Bill said to Harry and Hermione
They both nodded. A few minutes later Ron nudged Harry in the ribs and nodded of towards one the nearby stores. There coming out of the store was Harry’s nemesis Draco Malfoy, with his mother Narcissa.
“Let’s try to avoid the Malfoy’s,” Ron said
“Yes, I’d rather not have to deal with him before I get to Hogwarts,” Harry mumbled
“Well, let’s just try to get through these crowds for now and get to Gringotts,” Mrs. Weasley said
When they reached Gringotts Bill led them to an empty teller.
“With drawls from vaults Five Hundred ninety six, six hundred ninety seven and…Hermione what’s your vault number?” Bill asked
“Eight hundred sixty eight,” she replied
“And eight hundred sixty eight please,” Bill finished.
“And do you have the three keys?” The Goblin asked
Harry, Hermione and Bill all placed a key on the desk.
Twenty minutes alter everyone had their money and were out side Gringotts planning what to do.
“Now Hermione and Ginny you come with me and Fleur and Harry and Ron you two go with Bill. When you’re finished meet us at The Leaky Cauldron,” Mrs. Weasley said
“All right,” Bill said. “Us three will head of to Flourish and Blotts first”
“We’ll go to Madam Malkin’s. Well see you three at the Leaky Cauldron,” Mrs. Weasley said. At that Mrs. Weasley, Fleur and Hermione and Ginny with scowls on their faces, walked away.
Bill, Harry and Ron headed of towards Flourish and Blotts.
“What books do we need this year?” Ron asked Harry as they reached the shop. Harry looked down at the list of items in his hand.
“Well, the only new text books we need this year is, The Standard Book of Spell (Grade Seven) by Miranda Goshawk, Advanced Potion Making Level Two by Libatius Borage and Advanced Transfiguration by Emeric Switch,” Harry said
“Well, let hurry up and get them then,” Bill said entering the store.
“All right them where to next?” Ron asked fifteen minuets later outside Flourish and Blotts.
“Well let’s go to the apothecary, we need supplies for potions,” Harry said and started walking down the street. They reached the apothecary and went inside.
“Hello you two,” Bill said
Ron and Harry looked towards the area Bill was looking. There staring back at them with potion ingredients in their hands were Ginny and Hermione.
“Hey, what have you guys gotten so far?” Ginny asked
Err…just our school books,” Harry answered guiltily seeing that this wasn’t the second store they had been to.
“Oh no,” Ginny groaned. “So much for avoiding them”
Bill, Harry, and Ron all turned around. There just entering the store were the two people in the world Harry did not want to deal with, Draco Malfoy and Narcissa. Harry and Ron turned back to Hermione and Ginny and started looking at the items on the shelves.
“Well, well, well, Potter, Granger and Weaselbees. What are you doing Potter? From what I heard last year, you weren’t returning to Hogwarts,” Draco sneered
That’s none of your business,” Harry said pulling out his wand.
“Potter! Threatening my son again are you? I told you to never threaten my son again, or do you not remember or little fiasco in Madam Malkin’s last year?” Narcissa said coming up behind Draco.
“Oh I remember it like it was yesterday,” Harry shot back
“So why are you threatening my son?” She asked
“So what if I do, what you going to do? Bring in some Death Eater friends to do us in?” Harry said sarcastically
“Harry that’s enough lets go,” Bill said grabbing his arm and dragging him away.
Five minutes later all of them were outside the apothecary.
All right, everyone lets try to finish up within the hour,” Mrs. Weasley said.
About half an hour later, they were all back at headquarters lying around in Ron’s and Harry’s room. Hermione of course had settled herself into the rocking chair in their room by the window and began reading the books she got in Diagon Alley.
Mrs. Weasley came in with a stack of freshly laundered clothes and looked at all of them lying around doing nothing, except for Hermione who was in fact reading.
“If you guys are just going to lie around and do nothing for the rest of the summer, I have work for you to do. Come on,” Mrs. Weasley said “Oh Hermione dear you don’t have to come, at least your doing something.”
“Oh…no I want to” Hermione said
“Well okay. Come on,” Mrs. Weasley said leaving the room.
“Harry remind me the next time there is a new location of headquarters to stay clear of it for the first few months,” Ron said
Harry just smiled and followed Ron out the door.
July thirty first came without Harry knowing it, as usual. He woke up that morning to Ron singing at the top of his lungs ‘Happy Birthday’ and singing it pretty badly to boot.
“All right Ron, enough Happy Birthday,” Harry said sitting up in his bed. He glanced at the clock, eight thirty. Harry got out of bed and grabbed a shirt of the nearby chair.
‘Where’s Hermione? Why isn’t she in here singing that song to?” Harry said pulling the shirt over his head.
“Oh, she and Ginny went for a walk outside,” Ron answered “You know moms got some pretty big plans for your birthday today.”
“What kind of plans?” Harry asked pulling on a pair of jeans.
“Well, she’s baking a cake and she’s got pretty much all of the order showing up tonight,” Ron said grabbing a shirt.
“So a party,” Harry said opening his trunk.
“Yeah pretty much,” Ron replied. “Come on, I’m hungry and mom’s made an awesome breakfast.”
Harry and Ron left their room, and went the hallway towards the stairs. When they reached the stairs they saw Hermione and Ginny standing down there by the door taking off their jackets.
“Happy Birthday, Harry,” Ginny said as they came down the stairs.
Hermione turned around a Ron and Harry reached them. She threw her arms around Harry and kissed him.
“Let’s go Ginny,” Ron said.
Ron and Ginny walked away leaving Harry and Hermione where they were.
“Happy Birthday, Harry,” Hermione whispered his ear.
“Thanks,” Harry said putting his arms around her waist.
Then they kissed again. Just ten the door opened and Snape walked in. He looked at Hermione and Harry in disgust.
“I thank you Potter, for ruing the appetite I had for breakfast” Snape snarled.
Harry and Hermione let go of each other and looked at Snape. Harry shot him a look of hate, grabbed Hermione’s hand and walked into the kitchen.
Once the door was closed, they heard a shuffling, noise, and then the building faded from their sight and was invisible once more.
