Chapter 3 – Nothing Ginny
Their little encounter didn’t change anything between them. For which both of them were grateful. Draco was rude and objectionable to Ginny and all the other Gryffindor’s. Whenever Ginny saw him being nasty to someone she would tell him off and threatened him, everything was very normal. But Draco was still following her at night, she saw him some times but others he didn’t appear to be around. They never spoke again or acknowledged each other’s presence. It suited both of them fine, Ginny felt like someone cared even though she knew that he was up to something. Draco continued to watch and continued to tell his mother there was nothing to know, which was basically true.
For Draco watching Ginny became a game, something to do that made him feel important. For Ginny, Draco watching her was a sense of normality, she was silently glad someone knew she wasn’t the angle people believed her to be.
Draco’s real problem was that he felt he was deceiving his mother by not telling her the Weasley girl’s weakness. He knew it could be used against her, but he was really unwilling to give away such valuable information without reward. So he continued to watch and wait for anything that could lead to an advantage. It wasn’t long until he could join the ranks of the Dark Lord with his father. He would finally make him proud and all he had to do was watch a little girl. As long as he could find out something soon that would tell him about the rest of her family, but even without it he had enough information. Draco smirked to himself, this seemed to becoming too easy.

“Why do you think mum and dad are going?” Ron asked Harry and Hermione
“No idea. But I want to know why the three of us are going. They have never let us do more than a bit of research before.” Harry said
“They could just be taking a nice holiday, they deserve one” came Hermione’s voice of reason.
“But why be so secretive then? We only found out we are going away because Harry was in the right place in the middle of the night,” Ron said
“But we don’t even know where they are going, all we know is that your mother was worried about leaving Ginny here all by herself” Harry said
“It would have to be far…” Ron started to say but was stopped by Harry’s “Shhhh”
Ginny had walked over to the table. The trio went silent and this hadn’t gone un-noticed by Ginny. “What are you guys talking about?” Ginny asked quietly looking directly at Ron who would be the easiest to make cave. “oh um…. nothing Gin”
“What do you mean ‘nothing’ Ronald Weasley?” Ginny gave him a glare that looked so similar to their mothers it was scary. She couldn’t stand it when they all went silent in her presence, it was like just because she was there they couldn’t talk about anything anymore.
“Just sixth year stuff Ginny” Hermione added hoping to calm the angry Weasley
Ginny looked at them in disbelief. After everything they went through last year they still didn’t think she could help, still couldn’t be part of their little group. “What are you three up too?” She asked glaring at each of them in turn. It was Harry’s turn to try and speak, but little did he know he would cause a very bad series of events.
“It really is nothing Gin, we just don’t want to worry you.”
Ginny turned on her heel and headed up the stairs to the dormitory and her room, leaving three shocked faces behind her. When they had just started to talk again she returned and walked right past them without even acknowledging their presence. Just as she was about to go through the portrait Ron’s voice broke through the common room. “Where are you going at this time of night?”
Ginny stormed back over to her brother and his friends and shoved her finger into his chest and whispered almost viciously “Where ever I want! If you have a problem I will hex you worse than anything I have ever done to Malfoy!” With that she left.

For some reason Draco decided to go outside for a walk. He knew it was not a day Weasley would be out and it was a little late for her to be anyway. He just wanted to clear his head and get some air, or at least that was all he was willing to tell himself it was. His curiosity about the Weasley girl was really starting to get to him. Why did she of all people drink? There was obviously something going on inside her head, but what? And it was disgusting that a pure blood, even a Weasley should be so weak and continue in that weakness even when a known enemy was watching. It made no sense at all to Draco, but then again he presumed if anyone drank that much nothing would make sense.
Draco sat himself down on the edge of the forest, with his customary muffin in his hand. Clearing your mind always required food in his opinion. He was simply sitting and thinking, school, girls, assignments and how grateful he would be to leave school and the sooner the better.
Then he saw her, she was always easy to pick out and in the middle of the night at distance was no different. But this was not her usual quick quiet walk down to the lake or forest, she was storming and muttering to herself and she already had her flask out, drinking from it. “What’s gotten into the girl?” Draco mused out loud
She kept on drinking and ranting to herself and coming in his direction. But she didn’t even stop as she passed him nor did it look like she even noticed he was there. All he caught of her rant was ‘stupid git, who does he think he is’ and then she was gone. She didn’t even sit in her normal spot, she appeared to have gone into the forest. ‘Shit!’ Draco hated that forest more than anything, why did she have to do something interesting and possibly very useful in the forest? Couldn’t she have just sat down and ranted and raved at the edge of the forest? Dam that silly little girl, what was she doing in there? She might have Gryffindor bravery, but was she just plain stupid? It certainly looked like it.
Draco decided not to follow. His reasons varied from ‘I have my good cloak on’ too ‘drunk people never say anything important or useful’. But he knew he would never enter that forest by choice if he could avoid it, it basically creped him out and he would not endure it if it wasn’t necessary. He sat back down, she would come back and sit he presumed and he wanted to be here to listen, something had obviously set her off. He just wondered what it could have been to make her go off like this.
It only took ten minutes before Draco he heard her again. But this was not the noise he had been looking for. This was an ear-splitting scream. ‘Shit!’ That was not a scream of anger or frustration, that was someone screaming who was in trouble. The first thought that came to Draco was ‘oh good this could mean one less Weasley in the world’ but then he heard his father saying ‘All pure-blood’s need to work together’ He was sure his father hadn’t meant by saving a traitor, but she was a pureblood.
Draco also still needed her if he had any chance of finding out the information on her parents that his father had requested. But she was in the forest, he hated it in there and although Draco would never admit it to anyone little lone himself he was scared of it. So now Draco’s dilemma was what he was going to do. He could go in and find out what was wrong with the stupid girl or he could just leave her there to her own fate.
“Dam that girl,” he swore out loud as he stood and entered the forest. ‘She could be anywhere, the stupid girl has been gone for at least fifteen minutes and she probably didn’t need him anyway, maybe he should just go’ Draco thought. But no he walked forward into the un-known. Draco found the path and followed it with his wand out, he really hoped she hadn’t gone off the path. But the fact that he cared at all worried him. Draco stopped after five minutes of walking, this had to be one of the most stupid things he had ever done and wondering around in the forbidden forest lost wasn’t going to help him. Yes she was a pureblood but she was a Weasley and worthless, he would find another way to get information. Plus he wasn’t getting anywhere with her anyway. Draco turned around, it was not like he could hear her anymore anyway. He started to make his way back to the edge of the forest so he could go to bed and be shocked in the morning when news of the Weasley girl was announced.
“Ahhhhhh….no, no, nooooo!!!!!!”
Draco spun in a circle. Where was that coming from?
“I didn’t mean to, its alright I am just going to back away… oh no, no, no!”
Where did that stupid girl go?
“Weasley”
“Help me!”
“Where are you?” Draco yelled
“Over here” She yelled back and Draco swore. That was not a helpful direction. Draco turned slowly again looking for a sign of that hideous red hair. Then he spotted it, at least that hair was good for something. He headed towards her, keeping a firm grip on his wand the whole time, he had no idea what to expect when he found her.
*~*~*~*~*~*
Ginny heard Malfoy yell out to her, she wondered what he was doing in the forest. She hadn’t seen him on her way down here or at any point while she was in the forest. She had simply stormed through the forest in a rage. Now she was backed against a tree by what appeared to be Jarvey. The large ferret like creature tended to live underground except for mating season, which of course was right now. This mother had two babies and Ginny had stormed right into their nest and as a result things were not going well. The Jarveys by nature would talk and insult anyone, but when breading and protecting their young they became very protective and vicious.
“Stupid girl now I will hurt you” The Javey’s squeaky voice said
“No please don’t I didn’t mean you any harm” Ginny begged
“The idiocy of witches”
Ginny just wished she could do something, anything. But she had dropped her wand on her bed when she had retrieved her flask. Now she had no way to protect herself.
The Javey lunged, scratching her legs, drawing blood. Ginny had had more alcohol than normal that night while she walked and raved so the pain was numbed but her fear was still there. “One so young should not be so dumb” the Javey intoned.
“Go away from me, I can’t hurt you.” Ginny cried
“Children should not be out after dark”
“I AM NOT A CHILD!” Ginny screamed at it. The Javey pounced, latching its teeth into Ginny’s arm. Ginny tried to hit it and pull it off but it just bit down harder and scratched her arms and face, tearing her clothes and making everything a bloody mess.
Ginny grabbed it’s tail and pulled it with all her might. She then let out another ear splitting scream as the Javey didn’t let go, but instead tore her skin and flesh away with its teeth.
Draco heard her scream and moved into the small clearing she was in as she hit the ground clutching her arm. The Javey was ready to pounce again when Draco fired a stunning charm at it. The Javey stopped mid air and fell to the ground with a thump.
Ginny only just recognised Malfoy as her vision blurred and she collapsed into darkness.
