Chapter 4: Good bye baby

Chapter 4: Good bye baby

Lily lay down in a Muggle hospital bed holding their girl with James sitting on a chair by the bed. She had given birth about an hour or two ago and had had pictures taken of them all together, but there were more pictures of their girl. James watched Lily as she talked to their baby girl. They baby son in a little cradle for the time being.

Lily looked down at her opened eyed new born baby girl. She had hair like hers and eyes like hers too. Oddly enough she looked just like Lily in baby form and Harry looked everything like James, but the eyes they came from Lily. The hair the eyes everything on her baby boy looked just like James.

"I'll always love you Isabelle and same with your father. You are my girl and always will be," Lily whispered as she played around with the little baby girl's hand. "I have a little present for you." Lily reached over to the desk and picked up a necklace with a little locket on it. It was gold with a heart shaped locket. Inside it had a picture of Lily James and the Babies and on the other side was a picture of James and Lily.

James watched her with tears slowly falling from his eyes. Lily seemed to be the strong one here. She put the necklace in Isabelle's blanket thinking that it wasn't safe to put around her neck. "You always keep that with you. Don't ever let anyone take that away from you. Ok?" Lily watched as her baby yawned. Lily began to cry thinking that she wouldn't be able to see her girl grow up.

"Lils?" James wiped his eyes and stood up. Lily looked over to his teary eyed husband. "Let me have her for a bit."

"Ok," Lily sniffed. Lily gave their daughter over to James.

"They are so perfect." James ran his finger over Isabelle's cheek.

"Yeah they are." Lily looked over to the baby boy who looked just like his father.

"We'll get you back someday Isabelle and we'll be a family again. The four of us." James found it extremely hard to stop himself from crying. One of his tears fell on to Isabelle's head. James wiped it away as the baby closed her eyes. "This is so hard."

"I know it is James, I know." Isabelle reached out her hand and he held it. He softly placed his lips on the back of her hand. Lily closed her eyes making more of her tears fall. The little hospital room door opened and in came a sweet looking lady with blond hair and a slightly plump body, following here came an older looking couple. The Man looking about 40 in a nice black suit and the Lady a few years younger them him in a nice 2 piece woman’s suit. Lily and James looked at them.

"Hello," the lady said.

"Hello Janet," James and Lily replied wiping away their tears.

"I'm sorry to interrupt but I thought that you would like to meet the Levine's - they will be taking care of Isabelle." Janet pointed at the couple.

"No, it’s ok." James stood up and walked over to the couple as he held his daughter. "You'll take care of her won’t you?"

"Of course," Mrs. Levine nodded.

"Good. And you will tell her that she is adopted, yes?"

"We do not think it is good to keep lies in the family," Mr. Levine said.

"That's good."

“Can I have a hold?” Mrs. Levine asked.

“Ah… yes.” James slowly handed over his baby girl.

“Thank you. She is really beautiful.” Mrs. Levine complimented.

“Thanks.” James turned away as he felt a part of his heart being ripped out of his chest.

"Will you keep her name as Isabelle?" Lily asked feeling the same way as James.

"It's a beautiful name and we wouldn't change it," Mrs. Levine replied. Lily strained to put on half a smiled. Through what was going on Lily and James seemed to be handling everything well.

"Can I contact you to see how she is?" Lily asked again, wanting to know everything about her daughter.

"Yes, of course you can." Mr. Levine said as he looked up from the baby.

"And if she wants to then she can find us?"

"Yes, Mrs. Potter that has all been soughed out," Janet said.

"Ted, can you take Isabelle for a moment?" Mrs. Levine handed their new baby over to her husband and walked over to Lily. "I know how hard this is for you and I think that you two are extremely brave for doing this." Mrs. Levine bent over and gave Lily a hug.

"Ah… thank you." Merlin what is this woman doing? Lily hugged the woman back weakly.

"Your baby boy is beautiful just like your daughter." Mrs. Levine turned to the baby boy and softly ran her hand over the baby boy's head. "What is his name?"

"Harry," James replied dully.

"You two seem to have a knack for names," Mrs. Levine smiled. Lily did nothing.

"Come now Diana we must go soon," Mr. Levine said softly.

"Ok." Mrs. Levine walked over to James. "I will take good care of her. Don't you worry about it."

"Thank you."

"Can I have a word with You Mrd Mrd Mrs. Levine alone?" Lily asked, looking at Janet.

“I’ll be outside.” Janet walked out of the private hospital room.

“James and I think it’s best that you know that Isabelle is a witch.” Lily said.

“Lily, may I call you Lily?” Mr. Levine asked.

“Um, yes you may.” Lily nodded.

“Diana and I are squibs. That why we had decided to adopt your daughter. We saw your names on the adoption papers and we decided that having a witch as a daughter would be good, since we know about the Wizarding world.” Mr. Levine explained.

“I suppose that does make it much easier for her.” James whispered, finding it hard to talk.

“Yes.”

“No one must know that she is a Potter till she is old enough to handle it.” Lily blurted.

“If you want Lily.”

“Ok.” Lsighsighed. “Before you two go with Isabelle can I just say one quick good bye?” Lily asked sadly.

“Yes, of course.” Mrs. Levine took the baby girl from her husband’s arms and handed her over to Lily.

“Thanks.” Lily looked down at her now sleeping daughter. “I’ll miss you so much.” Lily kissed her forehead. “I love you…” Lily choked back some tears. “Bye my baby girl.” Lily held on to her baby for a little while.

“We’ll wait outside for you. Maybe when you have finished James you can give her over.” Mr. Levine left the private hospital room, Mrs. Levine followed a couple of tears fell out of her eye’s from the sad sight.

“Lils?” James walked closer to her. Lily looked up at he husband. “The longer we take the harder it seems to get.” James wiped his eyes, tears falling continuously.

“I know James I know.” Lily cried.

“Give her here Lils.” James slowly took his daughter away from his wife and hugged her. “I love you.” James softly kissed his daughters forehead. Lily laid down in the bed and sobbed into her pillow. “I wish we didn’t have to do this to her.” James slowly walked over to the door. Lily kept crying. “Bye Isabelle.” James opened the door and saw the couple and Janet standing on the other side of the hall. The tears James cried stained his cheeks. Mrs. Levine walked towards him.

“James she will always be safe with us.” Mrs. Levine assured tearily.

“I hope so.” James slowly took out the locket from with in Isabelle’s blanket. “This is from Lily and me. We want her to have this all of her life. Make sure she never loses it ok?”

“Absolutely.” Mrs. Levine nodded.

“Good.” James handed the locket over to Mrs. Levine. James took one more look at her beautiful daughter.

“James?” Mrs. Levine held out her arms. James looked at the lady who was taking his baby girl. He hesitated for a moment, then slowly handed his child over to the woman. “Thank you James and don’t worry about her. She will be fine.” James said nothing.

“Bye James.” Mr. Levine gave a curt nod.

“We’ll keep in contact with you.” Mrs. Levine added. The three of them left. James slowly walked back in to the hospital room with his head hung low. Lily had he head buried in to her pillow which was beginning to be drenched with her tears.

“Lils?” James pulled his wife up and into his strong arms, Lily grabbed on to him for dear life. "I told you not to do this." James cried softly.

"I know James but we had to," Lily sobbed. James just held on to his wife as they both cried. Little Harry began to cry too from his little cot, wanting something to eat. Lily and James ignored him for a little finding it hard to part from each other at this moment.

You did well Lily. You did the right thing for your girl. The voice said.

Leave me alone now Lily said in her head as the tears of pain streamed down her cheek.
