Epilogue
The Chosen One kills Lord Voldemort in battle
By Rita Skeeter
In a carefully planned-out battle that took place in two locations, Harry Potter finally defeated Lord Voldemort yesterday, ending almost two decades of fear and suffering in the Wizarding World.
While a group of Potter’s allies, calling themselves Dumbledore’s Army, fought against scores of Voldemort’s Death Eaters in Diagon Alley in London, Potter executed an elaborate plan to lure Voldemort himself to a secured location, where Potter confronted him and killed him in combat.
With Potter was his wife of four months Ginny Potter (formerly Ginny Weasley), Neville Longbottom and Pansy Parkinson, each former schoolmates of Potter’s. Longbottom and G. Potter were injured in the fight, and were rushed to St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. While there, Longbottom and Parkinson bore witness to Potter’s story, and Potter produced Lord Voldemort’s body and broken wand as proof.
The Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour, was arrested during a confrontation with Potter and his friends. The Minister attempted to Curse the Potters, but was stopped by Hermione Granger. Ms. Granger, one of Potter’s closest friends, was openly declared dead over a month ago as a ruse to lure Voldemort into complacency. The Minister was taken away for questioning, but it is suspected from his behavior that he may have been placed under the Imperius Curse, possibly as long ago as when he was Head of the Auror Department.
Diagon Alley has been closed off indefinitely while the Aurors attempt to restore order after the battle. Eyewitnesses have reported that the famed street looks as though a war were fought there. Dumbledore’s Army followed a battle plan, designed primarily by Harry Potter, that resulted in the capture of one hundred eighty-seven of Voldemort’s followers, also known as Death Eaters. Another twenty-one Death Eaters were killed in the battle. In addition, over two hundred Dementors are thought to have been killed, and many more driven away.
Dumbledore’s Army suffered casualties on its side as well:
- Susan Bones, the niece of former Head of Magical Law Enforcement Amelia Bones, was struck by the Killing Curse during wand-to-wand combat with Death Eaters.
- Charlie Weasley, whose father Arthur Weasley runs the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects, was placed under the Imperius Curse and forced to fight against Dumbledore’s Army; he fought valiantly to overcome the Curse with some success, was injured in the battle and later died.
- Alicia Spinnett was hit by an errant spell cast by Charlie Weasley while he was under the Imperius Curse. She was rushed to St. Mungo’s, but succumbed to her injuries after hours of effort to save her by the Healers.
- Terry Boot, son of Hector Boot of Boot’s Boots in Kent, was the victim of a Dementor’s Kiss. He is being treated in St. Mungo’s.
- Justin Finch-Fletchley, whose Muggle parents are both successful solicitors, was Cursed while saving the life of Cho Chang, another member of Dumbledore’s Army
- Hagrid, Hogwarts Professor (Care of Magical Creatures), and his half-brother, the giant Grawp, were both Cursed to death after each single-handedly eliminated over two dozen Death Eaters. Hagrid is well-known to have been one of Harry Potter’s closest and most trusted friends.
In addition to the casualties, a number of Potter’s followers were injured. The most surprising of which is Oliver Wood, starting Keeper for the Puddlemere United Quidditch team. Wood captained the Gryffindor Quidditch Team at Hogwarts, for which Harry Potter was Seeker. Wood is expected to make a ful recovery, and will not miss the start of the next Quidditch season. Internationally famed Quidditch star Viktor Krum also participated in the fight; in addition to leading the Bulgarian National Quidditch team to the World Cup three years ago, Krum is best known as one of Potter’s adversaries in the Tri-Wizard Tournament at Hogwarts later that year. The two evidently set aside their differences in order to combat Voldemort.

The exact circumstances surrounding Voldemort’s defeat have not been made public; those who were privy to the plan only revealed that Harry Potter personally invented alternative castings to two existing spells, and both were used successfully against Voldemort.
It was revealed that Voldemort was prevented from fleeing by H. Granger, who cast two Anti-Apparition fields, one over Diagon Alley and one over the site of Voldemort’s defeat, and then maintained the fields in spite of Voldemort and dozens of Death Eaters attempting to counter them. Ms. Granger—who is engaged to Mr. Ron Weasley, Harry Potter’s best friend, who was also injured in the battle—has long been rumored to be a witch of exceptional power and skill. That story was borne up when, during the Aurors’ questioning, Albus Dumbledore’s pet phoenix Fawkes appeared and presented himself to Ms. Granger.
In light of the revelation that Minister Scrimgeour was working under the Imperius Curse, the Ministry is saddled with the crippling problem of whom they can trust. Head Auror Robards passed a Veritaserum test and immediately ordered every Auror to undergo an identical test. Testing is still ongoing, but each Auror that passes his or her test is being placed directly in the field, either in Diagon Alley helping with the investigation and cleanup, or in assisting with the incarceration of the 187 captured Death Eaters.
A small contingent of Aurors who have been cleared via Veritaserum, led by twelve-year veteran Kingsley Shacklebolt, have been placed in charge of investigating the incident and questioning the witnesses and participants. Only a cursory questioning was made of Harry Potter himself—Harry and Ginny Potter disappeared from St. Mungo’s while the Aurors were occupied with taking the Minister into protective custody. No one has seen either of the Potters since; the members of Dumbledore’s Army claim to know where the Potters are, but also claim that they are unable to reveal its location, due to its being protected by a Fidelius Charm, for which Harry Potter is the Secret-Keeper. “And even if we could tell you where it is,” Ron Weasley was quoted as saying, “no way in hell would we!”
“Harry and Ginny are taking some time to collect themselves,” H. Granger stated. “It hasn’t been easy for any of us to cope with what we’ve been through, and for Harry it’s hardest of all. He’ll be back when he’s ready—he’s already said that he’s prepared to take responsibility for our actions today.”
The Ministry seems disinclined to pursue the matter much further, given that they have enough problems to be getting on with. Indeed, most officials within the Ministry feel that Potter deserves no punishment at all, despite the almost brutal nature of the battles that occurred. Public sentiment seems to be favoring that line of thinking—many are suggesting that an Order of Merlin, First Class, with Crossed Wands and Quills, would be an appropriate show of gratitude for what the Wizarding world has been granted by Harry Potter. Although his friends have expressed that there is only one thing Harry Potter would truly appreciate as a gift—to be able to live a normal life as a normal wizard, instead of as the Chosen one, instantly recognizable by his scar.
