Cold
She caught a cold. It was nothing to be concerned about.
Hermione spent three days in bed, miserable. Her parents worked most of the day.
They were afraid to approach her, due to her frame of mind.
It felt awful, to be avoided by one’s own family.
Was she somehow tainted?
Did they look at her and think she was a loose girl? Her baby bump was small, but their daughter was clearly pregnant, and while her parents weren’t known to be conservative, she somehow felt as if an invisible wall had sprung up between them.
It was difficult.
She spent more and more time isolating herself.
Draco visited her once. She didn’t bother asking how he entered.
She was curled in a ball. He didn’t look at her as he casually picked up the books scattered about her room, as if he found something interesting.
She wanted to tell him to sod off, but she didn’t want to speak to him directly.
He said nothing. He observed some of the posters on her walls, that did not move, he sat down in the dainty chair, matching a desk that she had owned since she was ten.
‘Get out!’ she wanted to scream, but she was tired, and he wasn’t doing anything bad.
At least not yet.
He was reading a book of hers, not looking at her, and that was what she last remembered before falling asleep.
When she woke the next morning, he was gone. And so was her cold.
