Awakening
Another update with some kind of closure and I sincerely hope it is not too fluffy for your taste. What can I say? I am a fluffy bunny.
34. Awakening
He had no idea how long he had been in that state but he felt somewhere that somebody was sitting by his bed. Slowly caressing his arm, talking to him. First there were only sounds that did not mean anything to him only the tender touch on his skin getting through to his mind.
Then there were words like love, pain, fear but they had no connection, not making any sense on their own. But the sensation of being touched was still there, keeping the loneliness at bay.
Slowly the words began to group themselves together, chains of words starting to make sense and he was drifting in a sea of sensations, in waves of emotions being held up by those caresses and slowly it became okay again to be Harry, to live.
Then he opened his eyes but it was almost dark in the room, somebody sitting next to his bed, turning pages reminding him about the time when he had woken up from being Voldemort.
“That bumbling fool,” Snape muttered to himself as he turned the page of the Daily Prophet. “Should not stick his nose into things that do not concern him.”
His throat was dry screaming for something to drink but it all still felt too fragile, the feeling of it being okay again to be Harry that he did not utter a word for fear of it breaking down in his hands.
But after a while the feeling of thirst got worse, his mouth sticky making it difficult to swallow.
And so he opened his eyes again and whimpered softly. Instantly Snape placed the newspaper on the floor and was at his side, gently caressing his cheek.
“Harry my darling, welcome back.” he softly said. “I was so worried about you. Do you need anything?”
Harry held Snape's black eyes and whimpered again not trusting his gluey mouth to say something. But fortunately Snape picked up quickly what he needed. He poured a glass of water and lifted Harry's head, helping him to drink in small sips.
When the glass was empty Harry laid back down and just stared at the elder wizard who smiled down at him in obvious relief.
“How are you?”
“I feel rotten,” Harry muttered a little ashamed of his break down, not remembering all of it but enough to feel horrible.
Snape chuckled softly. “I bet you do. We needed to put you on a long-term hypnotic and it will wear off eventually. Do you want me to call Dr Dribble?”
Shaking his head Harry tried to sit up and was relieved when Snape helped him.
“You need to take it slow. The worst of you injuries are healed by now but the body does not react favourably to such a drug.”
“How long was I out?” Harry asked afraid he had lost another year.
“Three days,” Snape answered keeping his calm gaze on Harry. “I was sick with worry.”
Closing his eyes in shame Harry wanted to apologize when Snape placed a long graceful finger over his lips.
“Hush, I do not blame you, I am just saying it so that you get the stupid thought out of your head that I would like to be anywhere but here. Wherever you be, in whatever state. I could not live without you Harry, I need you as much as you need me.”
“I freaked out, huh?”
Snape smiled ruefully. “I should have seen the signs sooner, I should have talked to you more. You heard me and Blaise talking?” When Harry nodded, he placed a soft kiss on his mouth. “You missed the beginning. I told him that I had found my soulmate, the one person who completes me, who betters me. He was just jealous, he had a childish crush on me once.”
Harry closed his eyes. “I was so stupid. I know I do not think about things, and I rush to do the first foolish thing that comes to mind.”
“Sounds like you,” Snape agreed easily. “Listen, I know now is not the perfect time and place but I have something for you.” He searched the pocket of his robe and pulled out a small box that was wrapped in silver paper placing it inside Harry's hands. “Open it.”
Slowly he did and when he opened the box it contained a beautiful silver ring with a deep green emerald. Swallowing against the heavy lump in his throat Harry could only stare at his lover.
“Look at the inside!” Snape requested and Harry did.
There it was, engraved into the glittering silver. For Harry, I love you.<7i> Feeling tears well up in his eyes again Harry felt Snape as he pulled him into his strong arms, cradling the frail body.
“I do Harry and nothing in this world can ever change that.”
Looking up Harry caressed Snape's cheek. “I love you too.”
“And that from two people who for lives of them could not express their feelings,” Snape whispered leaning back against the wall and pulled Harry into his arms.
Aw, wasn't that sweet? Now there is only one more chapter to go with some smut, because those two deserve it. Tell me what you think!
